mAlAcAñAng sees no reason for the International criminal court (Icc) to intervene in issues concerning the Philippines, particularly on the country’s fight against illegal drugs. In a statement, presidential spokesman ernesto Abella maintained that “no concrete evidence” has shown that the killings of suspected drug personalities in the Philippines were
state-sponsored. “the International criminal court (Icc) cannot arbitrarily interfere in the domestic affairs of a sovereign country like the Philippines,” Abella said. “there is no concrete evidence pointing to crimes against humanity here: such crimes must be widespread and systematically directed against a specific group. this element is absent in the Philippine situation,” he said. the Palace official added: “the
Philippine senate already absolved the President and there exists no such crime.” Duterte has repeatedly blasted critics and opponents, including international bodies that have spoken out against his brutal war on drugs, saying he won’t stop until the last drug lord is driven out. In a television interview, commission on human rights chairman Jose luis martin “chito” gascon said the Icc was closely monitoring drug kill-
ings in the country. Icc prosecutor fatou Bensouda in october 2016 said that “any person in the Philippines who incites or engages in acts of mass violence, including by ordering, requesting, encouraging or contributing, in any other manner, to the commission of crimes within the jurisdiction of the Icc, is potentially liable to prosecution before the court.” the Philippines has been a state PAGE A2 Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella

Trump admin warns anew that sanctuary cities could lose federal funding stAtes and cities that continue to shield undocumented immigrants and refuse to abide by federal immigration laws may face the risk of losing federal funding, the trump administration said. During an announcement at the White house on monday, march 27, Attorney general Jeff sessions urged the so-called sanctuary jurisdictions to “consider carefully the harm they are doing to their citizens” by resisting federal immigration enforcement. “such policies make their cities and states less safe — public safety, as well as national security, are at stake — and put them at risk of losing federal dollars,” he said. the attorney general added that if these sanctuary jurisdictions had not protected criminal undocumented immigrants, “countless Americans would be alive today and countless loved ones would not be grieving today.” About $4.1 billion in law enforcement grants will be allocated through the Department of Justice this year. In order to receive a portion of that funding, cities and states must comply and share citizenship and immigration status if requested PAGE A2

toP rank chief executive Bob Arum may have given an ultimatum but the camp of filipino boxing champion manny “Pacman” Pacquiao is apparently not in a hurry to decide whether or not to accept the match offer against Australian boxer Jeff horn. “When we believe the terms and conditions of an agreement are in manny’s best interest then we will sign—simple as that,” Pacquiao’s adviser, michael Koncz, told Philippine star. earlier this week, Arum has given Pacquiao until Wednesday, march 29 to decide whether he wants to have a match against horn in Brisbane this coming July 2. sought for comments, Koncz said: “We are not very worried about any deadline.”
According to Arum, if Pacquiao can’t get a match in July, his next match would likely be set in november. he said that the Australian government, who is backing up the match, won’t be able to keep the money on the table forever. Arum has been endorsing Pacquiao’s match against undefeated horn this coming April 23 at the suncorp stadium. his proposal, however, was put on hold as the possibility of a match against Britain’s Amir Khan this coming may in the United Arab emirates (UAe) was explored. After the proposed UAe fight against Khan dropped, Arum began to rework his original offer. “If we can’t get a fight for him this July, we’ll look at november,” manila Bulletin quoted Arum in its report. “Unless it’s a PAGE A4
