THE Philippine government is addressing terrorism threats seriously and has been expanding its anti-terror campaign by using a ‘whole systems’ approach, Malacañang said. Malacañang issued the statement on Thursday, July 20, following the release of a United States report claiming that the Philippines is

among the top five countries with the highest recorded number of terror attacks in 2016. The U.S. report came amid the ongoing firefight between the Philippine military and pro-Islamic State (IS) militants in Marawi City, Mindanao, which erupted two months ago. “What we are doing is we really confronting it, engaging the situation with the whole systems ap-

SPEAKING at a forum in Manila where she was invited, former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright explains the value of abiding by the law to attract investors. Albright, who is also a bestselling author and a business leader, was invited to speak during the “Forum on Global Governance and World Economy” organized by ABS-CBN which was held in Pasay City on Wednesday, July 19. “One of the things that I think people need to understand in the Philippines (is) that investors do not want to go into a place where the rule of law is under question,” said Albright, 80, who runs a private investment firm. “Therefore government institutions and the rule of law are very important because despite the fact that investing in its nature is PAGE A3

The petition was filed by a group led by retired Judge Priscilla Mijares, Former Human Rights Commission Chairman Loreta Ann Rosales, movie director Joel Lamangan, Hilda Narciso, and Mariano Dimaranan. The CA decision, penned by Associate Justice Normandie Pizarro, affirmed the

RTC’s decision which concluded that the ruling of the U.S. District Court in Hawaii was not binding because it lacks jurisdiction over the class suit docketed as Class Action No. MDL 840. “Rules of comity should not be made to prevail over our Constitution and we cannot allow foreign impositions to trample upon our sovereignty,” the CA stated.
