As 2020 Census approaches, minority groups risk undercount LACK of preparation and appropriations have already put the upcoming decennial 2020 Census at risk of an inaccurate count. With less than three of years to go, advocates are making the public aware of the consequences. While the census looks to find population changes and other information of who makes up the United States, it more importantly uses the derived data to address the nation’s needs, like determining representation of each area in the U.S. House of Representatives. As previously reported, more than $600 billion is allocated through federal programs based on census data. Among the many programs dependent on the census are those regarding education, assistance for veterans, hospitals, and transportation. With the census date set at April 1, 2020, the U.S Census Bureau has been hit hard with challenges — such as the resignation of its director and improper funding — which have initiated a detrimental domino effect on need-

MANILA - The Filipinos’ love for Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte remains despite a sharp drop in his satisfaction and trust ratings, the chief executive’s spokesman said on Monday, October 9. In a press briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said that the decline in Duterte’s rating was “expected” after more than one year in the office, as the adminis-
tration’s so-called “honeymoon period” with the public has ended. “These things usually happen. This is traditionally happening after a year, a year and a half, and you know, the love is still there,” Abella pointed out. The latest survey by Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed that Duterte’s net satisfaction rating has dropped 18 points from +66 or “very good” rating in June 2017 to ANTI-SMOKING CHAMPION. Sen. Manny Pacquiao filed a bill seeking higher tax on tobacco “not only to collect more revenues but to protect the people’s health.” The neophyte senator filed +48 or “good” in September 2017.

MANILA – If Manny Pacquiao ever decides to hang up his gloves, there will be no opposition from his longtime promoter Bob Arum. Speaking recently to veteran scribe Steve Kim of Undisputed Boxing Network, the Top Rank Inc. chief said he will support Pacquiao’s plan to retire. “One-hundred percent,” said Arum. The veteran promoter then
brought up the case of undefeated light heavyweight champion Andre Ward, who recently shocked the boxing world when he announced his retirement from the sport. The 33-year-old Ward is still widely considered to be at his prime, making his decision to call it quits a surprise to many observers and fans. Arum hinted that it will be a good move on Pacquiao’s part to follow Ward’s example and ride
