Pres. Trump proposes major tax cuts for individuals, businesses DUriNG his 2016 presidential campaign, President Donald trump vowed to implement major reforms to the tax code by simplifying the system, and this week, he did just that. on Wednesday, April 26, the White house announced the president’s highly anticipated tax reforms which represent the president’s campaign economic promises: reducing the amount of tax brackets for individuals, slashing the top tax rate for businesses and implementing a territorial tax system among other changes that would affect virtually every American. trump lacked to include specifics in the one-page document outlining the reforms, but what’s clear is that the administration is set on a major overhaul of the tax code reminiscent of the tax code renovation undergone during the reagan administration. “We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to do something really big,” Director of the National economic Council Gary Cohn said at a White house press briefing on Wednesday. “President trump has made tax reform a priority, and we have a republican Congress that wants to get it done. And this is something that, quite honestly, i hope the Democrats would

Filipina murdered in Walnut Creek, Calif.

A fiLiPiNA was fatally shot in the east Bay on thursday, April 27 by a man she was dating for the past two years, according to police. roselyn Policarpio, 47, was walking near the Lindsey Wildlife experience in Walnut Creek, California around 1:30 p.m. before she was shot four times by Gregory Prokopowicz. the 38-year-old suspect fled the scene but was found hours later in the city of martinez sitting in the passenger’s seat of a mercedes, wherein he barricaded himself. the driver of the vehicle was briefly detained, but was released after being interviewed. Prokopowicz was arrested on friday afternoon following a 19-hour standoff with a police sWAt team. he was in the possession of a gun and knives and was high on drugs, various reports said. Policarpio reportedly had plans to see her 25year-old son, Don, on thursday afternoon, according to the east Bay times. When Don called her cellphone about 10 minutes after the shooting, Prokopowicz answered. “You’ll never be able to speak to your mom again. i killed her,” the suspect said, as relayed by Don to the news outlet. the United states remains to be one of the most trusted countries by filipinos, according to a recent survey by Pulse Asia. figures from the poll show that 79 percent of filipinos said they trust the U.s. while 20 percent expressed distrust — a relatively better score compared to the 76 percent trust and 20 percent

distrust rates in December last year. Next to the U.s., filipinos expressed trust towards Japan, Australia, and Great Britain (United Kingdom), earning trust rates of 75 percent, 69 percent, and 53 percent respectively. China and russia, meanwhile, ranked lowest in the survey, with distrust rates of 63 percent and 56 percent respectively. only 37 percent of the respondents

said they trust China. on the other hand, russia got 42 percent trust rate, jumping from the previous score of 38 percent. the poll, with an error margin of plus or minus three, was conducted from march 15 to 20 among a total of 1,200 respondents. on tuesday, may 2, malacañang said China and russia’s low trust rates are not surprising at all.

“that’s par for the course,” Philippine Presidential spokesperson ernesto Abella said in a statement. According to Abella, people have been taught to think poorly of China and russia for such a long time. “After all these years, we’ve been programmed to think these are the enemies,” he said.
