PH gov’t eyes abolition of PCGG, other agencies THE administration of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is planning to abolish the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG), the agency tasked to recover the ill-gotten wealth of late President Ferdinand Marcos. This was according to Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno in a press briefing on Wednesday, July 26. “I don’t think we need a PCGG at this time... There are many agencies, there are many task

forces created in the last 30 years. So this gives us the opportunity to once and for all clean up the government, Diokno said. On Monday, July 25, Duterte, in his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) called on Congress for the “expeditious passage of the House Bill No. 5707 or the “Rightsizing the National Govern-

ment Act. The bill, which was introduced by Senator Loren Legarda in September last year, aims to improve public service delivery by merging or abolishing agencies under the executive branch with redundant operating functions. “There are many specific recommendations for policy actions under the rightsizing bill. One such proposal is to abolish the PCGG and to transfer its remaining activities to the Department of Justice,
