US denies Goldberg-led plot to oust PH president by ERIC
ANTHONY LICAS AJPress
AMERICAN officials deny reports published on Tuesday, December 27, claiming that outgoing envoy to the Philippines, Philip Goldberg, submitted a blueprint to the U.S. State Department for the ouster of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. The Manila Times cited a document provided by a “highly placed”unnamed source that attributed Goldberg calling for a regime change in Malacanang. “These allegations of a blueprint are false,” wrote Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Daniel Russel

in a statement issued on Tuesday. “No such blueprint exists.” The American diplomat’s alleged statements note the challenge associated with unseating a democratically-elected president with strong approval ratings in his own country. However, according to the source, Goldberg outlined a number of steps that he said might bring Duterte “to his knees and eventually remove him from office,” within a year and a half. These feature proposals to place political and economic pressure on Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos to reduce trade with the Philippines. He allegedly also suggested

FILIPINO boxing champion and Senator Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao has been ranked fourth on Forbes’ list of boxing’s “Most Valuable Players” in 2016. “When Pacquiao is in an active participant in the sport, it’s a good thing for boxing. He’s a senator in the Philippines but he made time to fight Jessie Vargas in November, made at least $4 million and looked quite good while winning,” Josh Katzowitz, the author of the article, wrote.
THREE American senators have expressed their “grave concern” over the alleged extrajudicial killings and human rights violations associated with the Philippine government’s war against illegal Sen. Last April, after winning a 12-round unanimous decision against Timothy Bradley Jr., Pacquiao announced that he would be retiring from boxing to focus on his political career. The following month, he was elected as one of the Philippines’ senators. Pacquiao’s long-time boxing promoter, Bob Arum, later announced in August that Pacquiao would be matched against Vargas for his comeback fight. October 5, Pacquiao dominated the Mexican-American boxer, reclaiming his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title. “It’s unclear what his next move will be, but a fight vs. Terence Crawford would be one of the boxing’s most exciting matchups of 2017,” Katzowitz said. People of color and the poor will be hardest hit by ACA repeal
PRESIDENT-elect Donald Trump’s threat to repeal and replace Obamacare is bad news for millions of Americans, but the poor and people of color are going to be hit hardest, say health care advocates. “The winners and losers from repealing Obamacare will depend crucially on the details of whatever replacement plan materializes,” said Larry Levitt, senior vice president for special initiatives at the Kaiser Family Foundation during a webinar Dec. 19. “ Based on what those replacement plans look like so far, it seems that the poor and people with pre-existing medical conditions could end up worse off.” Approximately 20 million people have gotten coverage since the launch of Obamacare.
