DATELINE US slams China for ‘unacceptable’ ongoing militarization in South China Sea FROM THE AJPRESS NEWS TEAM ACROSS AMERICA
THE United States has denounced China’s reported continuous militarization in the South China Sea, calling Beijing’s construction activities in the disputed waters “unacceptable. “It is not an acceptable – it’s not acceptable to us that these islands continue to be developed, and certainly not for military purposes, said U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Tuesday, December 12. Speaking before the 2017 Atlantic CouncilKorea Foundation Forum, Tillerson said U.S. government told Chinese officials that Washington is hoping to “find a way to freeze the militarization in the region. “And we have differences, such as the South China Sea and China’s building of structures, militarization of these structures, and how that affects our allies in the region as well in terms of free and open trade, Tillerson said. He added, “As we’ve said to the Chinese, we hope we can find a way to freeze this particular activity. Whether we can reverse it remains to seen. But it is not an acceptable. Last week, a U.S. think tank released a report showing that China has installed highfrequency radar system and other facilities at the northern end of Fiery Cross Reef—locally known in the Philippines as the Kagitingan Reef—in the Spratlys.

Goodbye net neutrality: What happens now? DESPITE pressure by the American public and hundreds of businesses including Google, Apple, and Facebook, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted on Thursday, December 14 to repeal net neutrality rules, a move many are calling an end to a free and open internet. FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said at the FCC’s open meeting on Thursday that the new rules were “not going to destroy the internet, “end the internet as we know it, or “end democracy, but advocates for net neutrality are not having it. While the net neutrality rules enacted under the Obama administration’s 2015 Open Internet Order prohibited internet service providers (ISPs) — Comcast, Verizon, AT&T, Cox, Charter, etc. — from blocking, throttling, or charging consumers for “fast lane access to certain sites, the new regulations will allow such practices as long as ISPs are transparent about it. Pai’s new Restoring Internet Freedom order requires ISPs to disclose anytime they block content, or prioritize any content that is their own, or of their partners. It also gets

THIS year’s economic and security partnerships between the Philippines and the United States have been “robust, according to Philippine Ambassador to U.S. Jose Manuel Romualdez. In his year-end report at the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, December 19, Romualdez highlighted the positive reforms and trends in the Philippine economy.
The diplomat noted that the country’s economy expanded by more than six percent in the past nine quarters, which he said can be attributed to a number of factors—including the “strong growth in exports, improvements in public spending, and boosted performance in traditionally well-performing areas such as the manufacturing subsector and services sector. For U.S.-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Business Council President and CEO Alex
Feldman, the Philippines’ “impressive economic growth is seen to attract U.S. companies to invest in the country. “The impressive economic growth that the Philippines has experienced over the last year and the predictions that it will continue into 2018 are the types of economic fundamentals that have attracted over $3.3 billion in American foreign direct investment to the Philippines, Feldman said. He added that “major initiatives
