Fil-Ams react to new safer-at-home order as DATELINE USA Los Angeles County LA County beats single-day COVID-19 record launches ‘United FROM THE AJPRESS NEWS TEAM ACROSS AMERICA

Against Hate Week’

AMID rising hate crimes and other forms of discrimination experienced by communities like Asian American and Pacific Islanders, Los Angeles County has marked this week as the inaugural ‘United Against Hate Week.’ From November 30 to December 6, the LA vs Hate initiative is encouraging and supporting county residents to unite against, report and resist hate in all forms. United Against Hate Week was born in 2017 as a poster project in response to white supremacist groups who were planning rallies in Berkeley. Since then, the week-long initiative has grown beyond posters and has spread to more than 60 communities across California. By going to the county’s website (LAvshate. org) or by calling the 24-hour 211 line, LA County residents can report a hate incident, “which includes any act of verbal or physical aggression, refusal of service, bullying, or in-

IN an effort to curb the spike in coronavirus cases and deaths, Los Angeles County issued a strict stayat-home order that took effect on Monday, Nov. 30.

COVID-19 outbreaks have affected restaurants throughout Los Angeles County, from a Panda Express in Sun Valley to the University of California’s Bruin Cafe. If you live in Los Angeles, you can access health department reports about these outbreaks online. But in most of the country, diners are left in the dark about which restaurants have been linked to outbreaks of the virus. Restaurants appear to be among the most common places to get infected with the COVID-19 virus, but contact tracing in most areas has been so lackluster that few health departments have been able to link disease clusters to in-person dining. When KHN contacted the health departments serving the 25 most populous counties in the U.S., only nine could confirm they were collecting and reporting data on potential links between restaurants and COVID cases. As of Monday, 13 of the 25 counties hadn’t

FOREIGN spouses and children of Filipino citizens are only allowed to enter the Philippines if the Filipino citizen or balikbayan is traveling with them, the Philippine Bureau of Immigration clarified on Tuesday, December 1. “The intent of the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force) resolution was to enable foreigners to reunite with their families in the Philippines,” Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said. He added, “Thus, such intention is not served if the alien comes here when his wife or children are not in the country.” The BI commissioner issued the statement after the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) sent the bureau a clarification explaining the rationale behind the IATF’s newest resolution that lifts restrictions on traveling foreigners who are immediate family members of Filipinos. Morente warned that arriving dependents may be de-
