Robredo won’t buy: Palace not serious about drug czar offer by RITCHEL

MENDIOLA AJ Press

The spokesperson of Vice President Leni Robredo insisted Wednesday, October 30, that the administration could not be serious about its offer of a drug czar post since the invitation was merely sent through mobile text. According to lawyer and former lawmaker Barry Gutierrez, MalacaĂąang and presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo are merely messing with Robre-

do, who’s only been working seriously. “Kung seryoso talaga sila, hindi idadaan sa text o tawag ni Sec Panelo. Ginugulo lang nila si VP habang gumagawa ng seryosong trabaho kaysa pumatol sa mga ganitong pa-showbiz (If they are really serious, Secretary Panelo won’t make the offer through text or a phone call. They are just messing with the vice president who is working seriously instead of reacting to these gimmicks), Gutierrez said in a tweet. “Sana hindi ito sukat kung gaano sila ka-seryoso

sa pag-ayos ng drug war (I hope this is not a gauge of their seriousness with the drug war), he added. On Monday, October 28, President Rodrigo Duterte said he would “surrender his law enforcement power to Robredo to specifically take charge of his drug war for six months. He made this offer after Robredo criticized anew the Duterte administration’s war on drugs. But Robredo opted not to respond to the president’s call, saying she was unsure if the statement

Locsin says China is not threatening war More than 8,000 people affected by Mindanao earthquake by AJPRESS FOREIGN Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Monday, October 28, said China is not threatening to go to war with the Philippines over resources in the South China Sea. His statement came after British journalist Bill Hayton questioned his tweet saying that China does not need the Philippines’ oil and gas reserves in the contested waters. “China doesn’t need our oil and gas. We do. And China is the only one offering to help develop it. A Filipino discovered humongous oil and gas just offshore Beijing. It’s rolling in minerals, Locsin said in a tweet. In response, Hayton said: “The only one? Shell and Chevron are already doing it. PRC is

threatening war to prevent the Philippines developing its own resources. Locsin replied on Tuesday morning, October 29, pointing out that the Malampaya natural gas field, operated by Shell Philippines Exploration with partners Chevron Malampaya and Philippine National Oil Company-Exploration Corporation, is running out. “Shell and Chevron’s Malampaya is running out. No it is not threatening war; we’re almost there, he tweeted. According to Locsin, China does not see a problem in conducting joint exploration with the Philippines in areas in the South China Sea. “In undisputed areas, China sees no problem doing it explicitly under Philippine law; in disputed areas under my (memo-
