Wyoming officials refuse to return Balangiga bells WYOMING officials have refused to return the Balangiga bells to the Philippines as they are deemed “memorials” to the casualties of the Philippine-American War. In a statement, the all-Republican delegation comprising of U.S. Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso, and U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, said, “These bells are memorials to American war dead and should not be transferred to the Philippines.” “We’ve received assurances that the bells will be returned to the Catholic Church and treated with the respect and honor they deserve,” U.S. Embassy press attache Trude Raizen said on Saturday, August 11, in a report from The Philippine Star. Raizen also emphasized the value of the bells for both Filipinos and Americans. “We are aware that the Bells of Balangiga have deep significance for a number of people, both in the United States and in the Philippines,” she added. Duterte’s preferred successor: Someone like Marcos, Escudero MANILA — Only a successor like former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr or Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero, both defeated candidates for vice president, would make President Rodrigo Duterte leave office. Duterte made this statement during a dinner with the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas on Tuesday,
August 14 after he again floated the possibility of resignation. Escudero, who ran alongside Sen. Grace Poe, conceded defeat in 2016 and is a member of the Senate majority. Marcos, meanwhile, is in the middle of an electoral protest against Vice President Leni Robredo, whom he has accused of cheating in 2016.
In a speech hinting at resignation in May, Duterte told government officials and congressional leaders: “Anyway I really want to resign from office. What is the latest count between Bongbong and (Robredo). Is she really the vice president?” Officials close to the president, including officials of the Presidential
by AJPRESS FORMER Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo denied all corruption allegations hurled at her regarding the 60 million-peso advertisement deal with PTV4 at a Senate hearing on Tuesday, August 14. “With confidence, I can say that there’s nothing illegal in the said contract,” Tulfo-Teo said. The former tourism secretary testified before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee that the accusations against her were only meant to discredit her. “I have been defamed, maligned and worse, crucified by allegations of corruptions and competence, all made up to look as truth,” Tulfo-Teo said. In a report from the Inquirer, Teo said that she did not comment on any of the slanderous criticisms. “For quite some time, I have kept mum against all the incredible allegations,” she added.

AFTER months of hearings, two committees of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, August 15, cleared former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III of the issue regarding the 2016 dengue vaccination program and the use of the controversial vaccine Dengvaxia. The Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability chaired by Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel and the Committee on Health chaired by Quezon Rep. Angelina Tan were the two panels that deliberated on the said issue. In a report from The Philippine Star, the two committees stated in a draft report that the dengue vaccination program was deemed as a
“judgment call on the part of the previous administration.” “The action of the administration at the time to implement a dengue vaccination program was unquestionable,” the report stated. The committees considered that the program was only intended to address the increasing number of those with dengue fever all over the country. They also emphasized the danger that the disease poses. “Indeed, the morbidity and mortality data at the time showed that dengue has become a worrisome monster killing hundreds of Filipino,” the committees reported. pork free 2019 budget by AJPRESS DEPARTMENT of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Benjamin Diokno ensured on Tuesday, August 15, that no part of the proposed P3.76-trillion national budget will be allocated to pork finances. In a report from the Inquirer, the budget chief subdued the public’s fear that House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo might distribute pork funding to lawmakers in exchange for their loyalty. The Supreme Court struck down the pork barrel programs primarily the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) and the Countrywide Development Fund. In 2013, the judicial arm of the government declared these pork barrel programs unconstitutional. Diokno said at the Meet Inquirer Multimedia forum that the National Expenditure Program for next year will adhere to the Supreme Court’s decision.
