MANILA — Former Philippine National Police chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa has so far obtained the most number of votes from overseas absentee voters (OAV). According to the Parish Pastoral Council of Responsible Voting’s (PPCRV) partial and unofficial tally as of 1:01 p.m. Friday, May 17, Dela Rosa got 124,361 overseas votes. Trailing behind Dela Rosa is Willie Ong, who is running under the Lakas–Christian Muslim Democrats (LAKAS CMD), who got 120,600 overseas votes and former Presidential aide Christopher “Bong” Go who got 119,990 overseas votes. SIX Philippine companies are included on the 2019 Forbes Global 2000 list, comprising of the world’s biggest, most powerful and most valuable companies. The Filipino companies considered among the largest public companies in the world are BDO Unibank, SM Investments Corporation, Top Frontier Investment Holdings, Ayala Corporation, Metropolitan Bank & Trust Corporation and JG Summit Holdings Incorporated. Topping the list of the Filipino companies is BDO, ranking 1,018 with a market value of $11.2 billion, followed by SM Investments at the 1,092th spot with a market value of $21.6 billion. Both companies are owned by the Sy family.

THE Philippine midterm elections drew in some surprising results as longstanding political figures and dynasties were defeated. Former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile expressed his gratitude to supporters as he conceded after ranking 22nd in the partial and unofficial results of the Senate race with 5,269,115 votes. “Maraming salamat sa lahat ng nagpakita ng suporta nitong mga nakaraang buwan! (Thank you to everyone who supported me in the past months!)” Enrile said in a statement.
“Nakakataba ng puso ang makita kayong lahat muli para sa ikabubuti ng kinabukasan ng ating bansa! (It is heartwarming to see you all for the betterment of our nation’s future),” he added. The 95-year-old will retire after more than 50 years of public service.
