FORBES Magazine named real estate tycoon and self-made billionaire Manuel Villar Jr. as the Philippines’ richest man as he topped the country’s list and ranked 317th among the 2,153 global billionaires on its list. The 69-year-old former politician was the first wealthiest man in the country of purely Filipino descent. Villar was among the 17 Filipinos who made it to the 2019 Forbes list of the richest people in the world. The global media company estimated Villar’s net worth at $5.5 billion due to his real estate businesses. He is currently the chairman of Starmalls and Vista & Landscapes. He also owns Golden Bria, a housing and condominium developer. Villar, also known as the brown taipan, was the former speaker of the House and Philstar.com photo Senate president. THE Vatican named Monsignor Alejandro “Alex” Aclan the newest auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles on Tuesday, March 5, making him the second Filipino to ever be presented as bishop in the United States. Born in Pasay City, Philippines, Aclan, 68, moved to Southern California from the Philippines in 1982 and has served as a priest in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for 25 years. But before entering priesthood, Aclan’s career path started with a degree in medical technology from the University of Santo To-
mas in Manila, Aclan shared in a feature in the Asian Journal’s Balikbayan Magazine in 2017. Upon graduating, his career path moved yet again towards electronic data processing, which lead him to working as a programmer and systems analyst for companies like San Miguel Corp. and Citibank in the Philippines. Aclan’s decision to enter the seminary came after he moved to the U.S. and attended a religious retreat, while still working as a project manager for a bank in Los Angeles. By 1988, Aclan joined the St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo,
