US provides $37 million for Philippines, other countries vs virus outbreak THE United States has committed $37 million in aid for the Philippines and 24 other countries affected or at high risk from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Mark Green, administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), said the $37 million would be drawn from the Emergency Reserve Fund for Contagious Infectious Diseases. The World Health Organization (WHO) is also a recipient of the fund. The amount was part of the pledge of up to $100 million announced by the U.S. State Department on Feb. 7. u PAGE A5

TWO Filipinas are among those featured in Time Magazine’s “100 Women of the Year” project in celebration of March as Women’s History Month and to highlight a century of influential women often overlooked by history. Former Philippine President Corazon Aquino and Rappler CEO Maria Ressa, both of whom were previously named Woman of the Year by the magazine, were included in the esteemed list of women from the past century.
