Ombudsman drops probe on Duterte plunder case by Dana

the office of the ombudsman has already dropped the probe on the plunder complaint against Philippine President rodrigo Duterte, the government’s top lawyer announced on tuesday, february 13. solicitor General Jose Calida said he received a letter from overall Deputy ombudsman melchor Arthur Carandang earlier this week, informing him that the investigation on the case “was already closed and terminated” in November last year. Calida said he wrote to Carandang last february 8 to inquire on the status of the plunder com-
plaint filed by senator Antonio trillanes IV against Duterte. “Based on the record, the recommendation to terminate the investigation was approved by Deputy ombudsman Cyril e. ramos on 29 November 2017,” Carandang wrote in response to the inquiry. It was Carandang who handled the probe after ombudsman Conchita Carpio-morales inhibited herself from the case. With the probe already dropped three months ago, Calida then questioned the ombudsman’s failure to immediately announce the dismissal. emphasizing that the case “concerns the integrity of the

During a regular session on tuesday, february 13, the city council deemed trillanes and Lewis as undesirable and unwelcome in Davao City for their continuous criticisms against the Duterte administration. PhILIPPINe President rodrigo Duterte has told the International Criminal Court (ICC) that there’s no stopping his campaign against illegal drugs despite the impending preliminary examination into the alleged extrajudicial killings in the country. Duterte on monday, february 12 said that his controversial drug war will continue until the end of his term in 2022. “Drugs — I like to address myself to the International Court of Justice and to the prosecutors coming here to investi-
gate. the war or the drive against drugs will not stop,” he said during a speech in Cebu City. “And it will last until the day I step out,” the president stressed.
