year. Recently, World Friendship Day was celebrated at Lansing's Wexford Montessori Magnet School. Hao, a native of China, helped educate K-8 graders on the geography, culture, and rich diversity of China's many ethnic groups. Beginning at the end of July, Karen Klein, along with American and Japanese teachers, will lead a group of American and Japanese high school students on a science exchange trip throughout the Great Lakes region. Sixteen current high school tenth and eleventh graders from the Great Lakes area and Japan’s Shiga Prefecture will join together for a rigorous water science program and cultural exchange featuring ten days in the Great Lakes area followed by ten days in the Lake Biwa/Shiga Prefecture area. This program is generously funded by the U.S. Japan Foundation and the Asian Studies Center. The Asian Studies Center, 4-H, and LATTICE (Linking All Types Of Teachers in International Cross Cultural Education) have partnered together this year for The Great China Art Project. Over 4,000 Michigan children from 32 counties submitted “visual letter” art pieces for possible selection into the top 100 pieces to be sent to China later this month. A similar collection of children’s art is being selected in China and its arrival is greatly anticipated in July.
