Councillor Update

Hopefully a lot of people from this area were able to enjoy Light Up Poole - the digital light art festival held on the Quay for three nights towards the end of February. Or if they didn’t, at least heard some of the positive feedback that the event received and will look out for it next year. This free to attend event saw thousands of people flocking to the quay and the old town to look at and experience a wide range of installations - from a silent disco to giant video shows and a wheeled robot writing poetry on the roads.

There is huge potential for the arts and culture in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole - which is why a Cultural enquiry has been launched to help realise this. Not only is there is widespread public appreciation of arts and culture here. The area is privileged to host top quality bluechip arts organisations and a vibrant network April 2019 of artists and performers and there is a Wednesday 3rd, 2.00-3.00pm strong shared commitment on the part of Seated Pilates with Lucy Purrier (booking essential). the key institutions that arts and culture can Saturday 6th, 11.00 - 12.30pm Childhood Diabetes Awareness Coffee Morning contribute so much more to our community and its future. The purpose of the enquiry will be to engage with the widest range of stake-holders to develop the opportunity for arts and culture in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, building on the great assets that are already here, and to articulate the benefits arts and culture can bring - economic growth, health and well-being, educational attainment, community development etc. There are a number of events over the coming months where anyone can have their say - as well as hear from the leading partners working on the enquiry. Why not get involved and help shape the future of art and culture in the area as well as the celebration and promotion of Poole’s heritage and identity?
