Resumo As leituras críticas e precisas da história da arte e das narrativas por ela construídas são os objetos de análise de Hans Belting e Georges Didi-Huberman, que encaram os limites da disciplina sem receio de declarar seu ocaso, de apontar a necessidade de novos rumos e novas leituras. O presente artigo tem como proposta examinar aspectos dessas duas abordagens em busca de pontos de contato e de distanciamento que nos permitam compreender melhor o debate ainda atual e incensado em que se vê a disciplina. From the end to the beginning: notes on the limits of art and history Abstract The critical and accurate readings of the history of art and the narratives it constructs are the objects of analysis of Hans Belting and Georges Didi-Huberman, who face the limits of the discipline without fear of declaring its decline, of pointing out the need for new directions and new readings. This article aims to examine aspects of these two approaches in search of points of contact and distance that allow us to better understand the debate still current in which the discipline is seen.
