2022 DESIGN/BUILD COMPETITION INITIAL PROBLEM STATEMENT

INTRODUCTION The 2022 ASC Region #3 Design/Build competition will be a new athletic center addition for the University of Knoxville. Any and all proposals are to be prepared in accordance with specific criteria that will be distributed at the Pre-Bid Meeting on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 7:00 am CT. Prior to that meeting, teams should send one (1) electronic copy (via their own download link) of the required prequalification information. The prequalification information shall include the following: - Team member introductions - General company overview - Organizational chart for your project - Completed AIA A-305 Contractor’s Qualification Statement The maximum length of this document (not including the AIA A-305) shall be eight (8) 8 ½” x 11”, singlesided pages. Following the receipt and evaluation of your prequalification information and written proposals, schedules, estimates and design information, your team will be invited to present your qualifications and project proposal in person to the project’s selection committee. You will also be asked to answer questions from the project’s selection committee. The project’s selection committee will make an award after all presentations have been given and reviewed. SELECTION CRITERIA The successful design builder will be selected based on the following: - Prequalification Submission - Concept Design - Cost Estimate - Project Schedule - Written Proposal - Oral Presentation OVERVIEW McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., as “Program Manager,” and on behalf of the University of Knoxville, intends to procure a qualified design builder to provide services for a new multi-story addition to an existing athletic center facility. This project includes the design and construction of said addition on an existing site to accommodate new coaching and staffing offices, film and technology classrooms, kitchen and dining area, student athlete center including office/study rooms, a lounge area, plus required restrooms and mechanical areas. This project has high potential thanks to two key alumni donors. Therefore, maximizing design and amenities while maintaining budget will be key.
