WELCOME
TO THE NEW OAKS
Welcome to The New Oaks for this afternoon’s Premier Sports Southern Combination League Division One fixture against Montpelier Villa.
We extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and management of today’s visitors, and hope they enjoy our hospitality before, during and after the game this afternoon.
The Oaks will be looking to carry momentum from last weekend’s big win away at Banstead Athletic. Three points separated the teams before kick-off, but they were worlds apart on the pitch as Billy Wood’s side ran riot at Chalky Lane.
The Oaks had to be patient in Surrey, though - taking the lead five minutes before half-time through Leon Turner - but there was still time for Jake Lindsey to score twice before the interval as we raced into a 3-0 lead.
Lindsey then completed a stunning hat-trick after Connor Martin had added a fourth shortly after the break, with substitute Tyler Pearson adding two goals late on to give Uckfield their
biggest league win for many a year - equalling the 7-2 scoreline when we beat Arundel in 2018/19 season.
That result and performance was just the tonic after a frustrating night in our last home game against East Preston - where everything seemed to go against us, not helped by the officiating.
Our Under 23s had their match at Hailsham Town Wednesday night postponed - but they return to action this Wednesday when they entertain Eastbourne Town. Kick off is 7.30pm and your support would be very welcome!
The Ladies side suffered their second defeat of the season on Sunday away at Newhaven, but will be looking to bounce back tomorrow when they host Burgess Hill in the First Round of the SCWGFL League Cup. Kick off is 2pm at Victoria Pleasure Ground.
Today is the first of a home double-header as we welcome Dorking Wanderers B to The Oaks next weekend - we hope to see you again then! Enjoy today’s game, and get behind the lads!

WELCOME TO A NEW ERA AT AFC UCKFIELD TOWN
Good afternoon and welcome to The Oaks as we resume our Southern Combination Division One campaign.
Today we face Montpelier Villa, and I would like to welcome their players, staff, management, committee and hopefully fans here to our home today for what should be an entertaining game of football.
We were excellent Saturday, clinical and ruthless, everything I expect from this group regardless of the players I put on the pitch. I expect a level of intensity, us to move the ball at speed and create goalscoring chances.
The front 3 were magnificent in the final third but huge credit to our midfield who completely dictated play.
We welcome Ryan Warwick to The Oaks as we complete his transfer from Newhaven. Ryan is a top top player and adds further quality to this team.
He might be effective on the ball but I believe his work rate off it matches our principals and believe
he will bed in pretty quickly to the group.
We are in great form when it comes to league football and we will do our upmost today to add more points to our tally, however we cannot take any team lightly.
Thank you to the continued transformation of The Oaks, the new doors are in overlooking the pitch (or under looking it from the angle) and the continued investment on infrastructure will pay dividends in the long run.
It’s on us to keep investing, the pitch we spent a lot on in the summer and will have treatments throughout, however know it’s more of a next summer job to get a ‘carpet’ laid here at The Oaks.
Get behind the lads today!
Up the Uckers!

AFC Uckfield Town showed great character to come from behind to win on the road on Saturday.
Billy Wood’s side fell a goal behind early on at Infinity, but Ryley Tate’s first goal for the Oaks and Connor Martin’s diving header saw the visitors prevail at Sidlesham Rec.
Looking to bounce back following defeat on penalties to Little Common in midweek, things didn’t get off to a great start for the Oakmen when Ashley Harris’ corner came off an Uckfield player and beat Harry Howes.
The hosts then could have doubled their lead, but Uckfield bounced back and went close themselves when Joe Hasler fired just over.
And they were level on the half hour mark when Ellis Wright won possession before Hasler’s low ball in found Tate, who fired low into the bottom corner for his first goal of the season.
Things then got even better for the visitors just six minutes later when a great cross from Macca Stiles on the right picked out Martin, who produced a fine

NLP COLUMN THE LATEST COLUMN FROM THE NON-LEAGUE PAPER
WHAT’S THAT noise you hear rumbling in the distance? Ah yes, it’s the national media getting ready to start covering the FA Cup from the first round proper.
No Non-League footballer’s day job is safe from being shoehorned into any report in a bid to save the romance of the FA Cup.
Of course, if you’re reading this you know the FA Cup kicked off back in August and the magic has been well and truly alive ever since.
And while, yes, the first round proper is drawing ever nearer, the fourth round qualifying round as thrown up some mouth-watering ties.
We’ve said for quite a few years now how this stage of the competition – and even those before it considering the size of some Step 2 clubs – almost has a first round feel in itself.
Biggleswade v York City jumps off the page in a northern section of the draw packed with big names with the likes of Scarborough Athletic hosting Chester and Oldham Athletic taking on FC Halifax Town.
Will it be a Bigg weekend in Bedfordshire?
Biggleswade Town are still in the hat with their postponed replay against Alfreton Town due now scheduled for Tuesday after a midweek washout. The winners host Spennymoor Town.
Hednesford Town are a big Non-League name now under the charge of another big Non-League name in Steve King. The Step 4 side entered right at the very start in the extra preliminary round and, thanks to a 1-0 win over Shifnal Town on Tuesday, will now host Step 1 Gateshead.
And how about Step 5 Bury fresh from their win at National League North Radcliffe at the weekend? They travel to Harborough Town who are looking to create their own history by reaching the first round for the first time.
In the southern section of the draw we’re waiting to see whether Bishops Cleeve can add Chesham United to their scalps in the rearranged replay on Tuesday
with Yeovil Town awaiting the winners.
Suffolk side Leiston beat Hornchurch in extra time on Tuesday to set-up a home date with National League Dagenham & Redbridge, while Chertsey Town host Sutton United.
Horsham enjoyed a fairytale run last season, drawing 3-3 with Barnsley before losing the replay and then being reinstated after the Tykes were found to have played an ineligible player.
They welcome Step 4 Gorleston, who have just dumped out St Albans City. The last time they reached the first round was in the 1957-58 season! IF they get there, surely that’s worth a piece in the papers…

VISITORS
WELCOME TO MONTPELIER VILLA
Montpelier Villa provides football for men, women, boys and girls from age 6 to 60 and beyond.
We have two homes, one at Falmer Sports Complex, University of Sussex and the other at Culver Road, Lancing, headquarters of The Sussex County FA. Both venues have excellent 3G and grass pitches and a high standard of general facilities.
We call our footballing philosophy ‘The Villa Way’ - it has been developed at the four stages of youth development and then blends into the senior football teams, creating a clear pathway for teams and individuals into semi-professional football.
The club was founded in 1991 in the Lion and Lobster pub in Brighton by Gary Pleece, Franklin Barrett, Miles Jefcoate and Mark Burleston.
The quartet quickly set about ensuring the club stuck to its main philosophies of playing good football and being a well-run club.
Over the years, youth, girls’ and now women’s sections were introduced, and the club has enjoyed great success over the course of its relatively short history.
Villa was then, and remains today, a welcoming, inclusive club that has given football opportunities to gifted players, but equally to the
disenfranchised, homeless and disabled players.
It is a club that’s truly ‘different’and that’s no mistake; it’s how we intended it to be from day one.
Montpelier Villa FC started a men’s team playing in the Brighton Hove & District Division Six in 1991.
The team quickly moved up the leagues and won several titles, cups and trophies along the way and now have many successful teams from under-6s up to veterans - and many in-between!
Our girls and women’s operation is growing all the time too. We have a strong women’s team who play in the Sussex women and girls league and we are also an FA accredited Wildcats centre for girls’ football aged 7-11 years.
It took Villa just five years to go from Division Six to Division One of the Brighton Hove & District Championship.
By 2018 the club had been promoted to the Southern Combination League and reached Division One in 2021.
