The LIT program begins with mandatory training, where LITs will learn leadership skills, such as public speaking, time management, goal setting, problem solving and more. They will also learn the expectations of their role during their session. After training, LITs are required to attend the remaining weeks in their session at summer camp where they will assist their counselors in leading groups of campers while also participating in camp activities. LITs must be responsible with strong leadership abilities.

To apply, applicants must submit an application questionnaire and two letters of recommendation from non-family members with their EZChildTrack application. Returning LITs may omit the letters of recommendation. This new camp will focus on horsemanship both in and out of the saddle. With the extended days, campers will learn more about the ins and outs of horse ownership, herd management, basic vet care, groundwork, equine anatomy and nutrition. This program is designed to develop your camper into a horseman and horsewoman in all aspects of caring for their assigned horse – not just while in the saddle.

The Greenway’s Equestrian Team will do our best to place campers in the group where they will be able to learn and improve the most; however, campers may be moved to a more suitable group at the discretion of the staff. If your camper does not take riding lessons at the Greenway, an additional questionnaire will be required to ensure the proper group placements are made.

Equestrian

Leaders-in-Training (LIT)

Rising 9th-12th Grade

The Equestrian Leader-In-Training program builds fundamental leadership skills and helps campers prepare for the transition from equestrian campers to equestrian counselors. In this camp, LITs will be partnering with the Greenway’s Equestrian Staff to build a unique camp experience for younger campers while learning about industry standards in lessons and horsemanship. Some of the leadership skills your LIT can expect to grow include public speaking, time management, goal setting, problem solving and more. LITs lead games, run ‘Morning Madness’ and help with activities in and out of the saddle. LITs will complete required training prior to the start of camp and will get to enjoy an end of summer activity together after camp ends. Riding is not guaranteed during camp sessions for LITs, but some opportunities may arise.

LITs must be comfortable riding at the Intermediate or Advanced Level and may be asked to submit a video with their application to show their riding at the walk, trot, canter and (English riding) over jumps.
