The Position

Guided by the School's Mission and Core Values, ASB's Elementary School Principal leads students, faculty, and staff to foster a climate of educational excellence and effectively manage the elementary school's day-to-day operations for students in Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5 As a

member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Elementary School Principal is flexible and nimble in their approach, evolving and inspiring colleagues while maintaining confidentiality and ethical integrity with self-knowledge, values, beliefs, and standards They embrace the diversity of ASB and Mumbai by moving beyond the classroom walls and encouraging students to maximize their impact on the community

The American School of Bombay (ASB) has been providing an outstanding education to diplomatic and expatriate families based in Mumbai, India for over 40 years Founded in 1981, ASB is a nonprofit Pre-K to Grade 12 day school, and fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. ASB is authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and Diploma Programme With over 200 staff, including 140 educational staff, ASB’s 600+ students engage in a holistic curricular and co-curricular program that emphasizes challenge, wellbeing, inclusivity, and self-directedness.

Leadership Strategic Agenda

The Elementary School Principal reports to the Head of School and is a member of ASB’s Senior Leadership Team They work collaboratively with the Head of School, Deputy Head of School, Middle & High School Principal, Director of Student Support, and Director of Operations and

Finance to strategically and tactically lead schoolwide educational and operational initiatives The Elementary Leadership Team includes the Elementary School Associate Principal and ES Curriculum Coordinator / IB PYP Coordinator Pre-K to 12 leaders and ES staff who lead various program initiatives also contribute to the ongoing development of the elementary school

The ASB Strategic Agenda guides the school in realizing its preferred future for its students while at the same time ensuring sustainability in the present Goals and deliverables make the plan a living document that acts as a roadmap to school improvement and organizational development Ultimately, the Strategic Agenda supports leadership and staff to respond to the changing landscape in education, meet the needs of a diverse community, build on the strengths of equity and inclusion in a multicultural community, and implement the ASB mission

Elementary School Program

The Elementary School Program at ASB is holistic in nature, with the child positioned at the center of decisions and initiatives Learning experiences are driven by inquiry and designed to help students engage with the world through curiosity and contribution. The intentional design of our learning spaces promotes collaboration and connection, with opportunities for movement, play, and exploration at every grade level We use the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) as our curriculum framework, with teachers designing learning engagements that integrate skills and concepts in meaningful and developmentally engaging ways Wellbeing is a key area of focus at ASB, with our teachers and counselors fostering proactive community connections and leveraging restorative practices to cultivate an ethos of empathy and care

Co-curricular offerings at ASB expand and enhance the experiences of every student. We offer a wide range of after-school programs to elementary students that invite them to extend and enhance subject-specific skills, pursue areas of passion such as STEM and theatrical performance, and compete and develop team skills through sport Strong links to our local community are embedded in every grade level, with a range of NGO partners providing entry points for students to grow and act in the greater Mumbai area The India Sanskriti Center extends host country connections through field trips, curriculum collaborations, and art exhibitions on campus Parents are active members of the elementary school community, working in partnership with teachers and school leadership to support their children's learning journeys and to enrich the community feel that is central to the ASB experience

RESPONSIBILITIES

INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP

Leads and facilitates the development and implementation of the curriculum, ensuring that learning is personalized, and that students are achieving and growing

TALENT MANAGEMENT

Recruits, retains, and develops the highest caliber of faculty based on the needs of the students Develops people, builds effective teams, and manages/nurtures relationships within the division, the school, and the wider community to ensure the needs of all stakeholders (parents, faculty/staff, and students) are best met.

CULTURE-BUILDING

Demonstrates a deep understanding of the tenets of a professional culture and ethical climate, and can foster an environment of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.

ALIGNMENT
