Initial 2-year contract, annual renewal thereafter

Position Summary: The High School Associate Principal at ASB serves as a member of the high school leadership team and is pivotal in helping to foster a safe, inclusive, and rigorous learning environment for every learner. Working closely with the Middle & High School Principal and colleagues on the high school leadership team, the High School Associate Principal contributes to the implementation of divisional initiatives, instructional programs, and student support services. This position requires a dynamic and collaborative leader who can effectively support the Principal in implementing day-to-day operations, student pastoral and disciplinary care, professional development, and parent education initiatives.

The High School Associate Principal is a key liaison among students, educators, families, and the wider ASB community, promoting a culture of respect, belonging, and growth. Responsibilities include supervising educators, facilitating professional learning experiences, monitoring and addressing student behavior and attendance, and ensuring the implementation of systems and procedures. In addition, the High School Associate Principal plays a key role in campus safety planning, scheduling and timetabling, data generation and analysis, and the support of multidisciplinary intervention strategies for learners.

This role requires strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and a deep commitment to educational excellence and student success for students across grades 9 to 12. As well, the successful candidate will actively engage in and contribute to schoolwide initiatives and priorities, making themselves flexible and available to support divisional and whole school programming outside of the school day.

Your Responsibilities at ASB: Instructional Engagement ●​ Contribute to the development of the written, taught, and assessed curriculum in collaboration with the Middle & High School Principal, curriculum leaders, and educators. ●​ Help develop systems and structures that facilitate the delivery of a high-quality program across Grades 9-12. ●​ Collaborate with the IB Diploma Coordinator in taking a comprehensive and holistic approach to delivering the IB Diploma Programme at ASB.

Student Engagement ●​ Collaborate with the Middle School Associate Principal to support student transitions from Grade 8 to 9. ●​ Support the work of the student support services teams in meeting the needs of all learners, including participation on multidisciplinary teams. ●​ Support the Athletics, Activities, and Community and Social Responsibility (CSR) and other co-curricular programs in delivering on their respective objectives and outcomes. ●​ Work in collaboration with the university counseling team to support students in the college application process and in post-secondary readiness programming.

Educator Engagement ●​ Facilitate the professional development of educators through divisional meetings, in-service training, and grade-level meetings. ●​ Participate in the evaluation and appraisal of educators.

Parent Engagement ●​ Build partnerships with parents and caregivers, both formally and informally. ●​ Ensure clear and ongoing communication to families about curricular, co-curricular, and pastoral programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes ●​ A growth mindset and a desire to develop leadership capabilities. ●​ A commitment to the development and use of systems, structures, and protocols in support of alignment across the high school. ●​ A commitment to facilitating restorative conversations and developmentally appropriate approaches to student behavior that promote accountability, empathy, and community repair. ●​ Facilitative and collaborative skills that can promote a strong professional culture. ●​ The ability to employ effective and engaging communication strategies. ●​ The capacity to generate and analyze data, and act on findings to support organizational growth. ●​ A mindset that fosters creative and innovative thinking. ●​ The ability to maintain confidentiality with honesty and ethical integrity.

Who Are We Looking For? The ideal candidate will bring: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program, with a teaching credential.

Coursework and or experience in Educational Leadership ●​ A minimum of five years of experience in a K-12 accredited school, including leadership experience ●​ Deep understanding of curriculum design, assessment, and pedagogy for Grades 9–12 ●​ Knowledge of adolescent development, positive behavior interventions, and strategies for building inclusive school culture. ●​ A keen sensitivity to cultural diversity and differences. ●​ ●​
