NOWADAYS YOU HAVE TO BE LUCKY TO FIND A PUBLIC RESTROOM.

INSTEAD OF CROSSING STREETS AND PANICKING TO FIND A RESTROOM. THE IDEA WAS CAME UP WITH EXCHANGEABLE ESSENTIALS WAS CREATED TO HELP YOU WITH THAT SITUATION AND GO BEYOND THAT.

PICKING UP FROM 125TH STREET SINCE WE OBSERVED HOW BUSY AND USEFUL IT WOULD BE TO EVERYONE INCLUDING THE OTHERS

THAT AREN’T FROM THERE. ON THIS STREET WE SEE MANY VENDORS, INSTEAD OF CUTTING THEM OFF WE DECIDED TO ADD THEM INTO IT WHERE THEY WOULD USUALLY PLACE THEMSELVES ON THE STREET.

IN THIS DESIGN, WE CREATED A STRUCTURE THAT HELD BATHROOMS AND A LOUNGE SPACE. DUE TO THIS, IT LEAD TO A SPACE THA TOOK OVER THE STREET LIKE A RESTRUANT WOULD USUALLY DO. ALTHOUGH KEEP THAT IN MIND, THE DESIGN ABOVE, WAS CREATED TO GIVE THE COMMUNITY A SPACE TO SELL THEIR GOODS, TAKE A SEAT,AND USE THE RESTROOM.

WITHIN THE LAST PROJECT OF PULLING THE MODULES THAT WAS DONE BEFORE, I WANTED TO CREATE A SPACE FOR RESIDENCES IN THE APARTMENT WITH THEIR OWN NATURAL LIGHTING AND STICK WITH A PROGRAM THAT WAS INTENDED FOR DAILY ROUTINES. MAKING THESE CHANGES BETWEEN MY PLANS GAVE ME AN UNDERSTANDING OF HOW AN APARTMENT NEEDS ITS OWN STUDY AND SPACE ALL IN ONE. CONSIDERING AS WELL, AS BUILDING WITHIN THE FABRICS OF THE SUR-

THE ART GALLERY WAS OUR WARM-UP ASSIGNMENT TO COMMUTE PROGRAMS WITHIN A 3,200-SQUARE-FOOT LOT SPACE. WHEN CREATING THE ART GALLERY, I WANTED TO CREATE A GALLERY THAT JUST TOOK IN NATURAL LIGHTING, AND THEN LOOKING INTO EL PETIT COMTE KINDEGARTEN BY RCR ARCHITECTS INSPIRED THE ENVELOPE OF MY GALLERY. INCLUDING HOW THE DIFFERENCES IN MATERIAL DEPENDING ON THE SUN’S ORIENTATION MATTERED AS MUCH AS THE OCCUPATION OF EACH ROOM PRESENTED IN THE PLAN.

THE SITE THAT WAS GIVEN WAS A BLOCK AWAY FROM THE ART GALLERY SITE, LOCATED ON THE LOWER EAST SIDE. THE SITE IS LOCATED, AT SARA D. ROOSEVELT PARK IS BETWEEN THE MAIN STREETS OF CHRYSTIE AND FORSYTH STREETS. WE MAINLY FOCUSED ON THE SEASON SUN ANALYSIS, SHADOW INTEL, PERSONAL INTEREST WHILE SPENDING TIME AT THE SITE, DEMOGRAPHICS, BUILDING CONTEXT, AND LANDMARKS.

Yonah Schimmel's Knish Bakery 137 E Houston St, New York, NY 10002 ◦ THIS BAKERY BEING HERE SINCE 1980’S FIRST STARTED ON A PUSHCART, SO YONAH SCHIMMEL, ROMANIAN JEWISH IMMIGRANT, TO MAKE A LIVING ON THE NEW YORK. Bowery Savings Bank Building 130 Bowery, New York, NY 10013 THE BOWERY SAVINGS BANK BUILDING WAS THE BANK’S FIRST BUILDING THAT SERVED NEW YORK CITY’S FOURTH SAVING BANK THE ARCHITECTURE WITHIN THE BANK USES ROMAN REVIVAL STYLE WITH THE INTENTION TO EXPRESS SIMPLICITY AND GRANDEUR. FOR EXAMPLE THE MG ARCHITECTS TOOK AWAY THE TELLER CAGE AND STORE TO CREATE MORE SPACE. The Bowery Ballroom 6 Delancey St, New York, NY 10002 ◦ THIS BALLROOM WAS FIRST A RETAIL STORE, LATER WAS A SHOE STORE, TREE-MARK STORES, FOR 30 YEARS. ◦ SINCE 1997 TO PRESENT DAY IS NOW A MUSIC VENUE SHOWN ABOVE. New Museum 235 Bowery, New York, NY 10002 ◦ THIS MUSEUM WAS FOUNDED JANUARY 1,1977, AS WELL WAS THE FIRST MUSEUM DEVOTED TO CONTEMPORARY ART IN NEW YORK CITY. ◦ THE MUSEUM MOSTLY FOCUSED ON PRESENTING WORK OF LIVING ARTIST WHO HAVE NOT GOTTEN A WIDE EXPOSURE OR CRITICISM. SUSTAINABLE TECH

AFTER SITE ANALYSIS, WE GOT TO FOCUS ON ECOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGY THAT WOULD HELP US UNDERSTAND COMPONENTS OF DIFFERENT ECO-TECHNOLOGY THAT CAN BENEFIT THE PROJECT FOR THE BETTER. THE MAIN ECOTECHNOLOGY THAT I FOCUSED ON WAS THE SHADING DEVICES THIS WOULD GIVE THE BUILDING AN ADVANTAGE FOR BETTER LIGHTING AND BEING ABLE TO CONTROL IT IN DIFFERENT WAYS. THESE SHADING DEVICES WOULD LATER, BE IMPLEMENTED INTO THE VEIL PROJECT.

THE VEIL

THE MAIN COMPONENT OF THE BUILDING IS THE CURVES THE PURPOSE OF THE CURVES WAS TO GATHER THE SURROUNDINGS TOGETHER AT A MEETING POINT. TO CATCH THE PEOPLE’S ATTENTION WITHIN THE CORE OF THE COMMUNITY CENTER WERE DIFFERENCES IN HEIGHTS FROM ONE FLOOR TO THE OTHER. THE PROGRAM SPACES ARE DIVIDED BY THE MIDDLE CORE AND LIGHTING.

USING THE ECO-TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH WE IMPLEMENT INTO THE BUILDING, CONTROLLING THE AMOUNT OF LIGHT THE BUILDING.

THE FACADE WAS DETERMINED BY THE ORIENTATION OF THE SUN THAT FOCUSES ON THE MAIN SEASONS (WINTER AND SUMMER). IN ADDITION, TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION CONTROLLING THE LIGHT, I MADE A GRADIENT OPENING SYSTEM TO MANAGE THE SUN INTAKE IN THE BUILDING.  THIS SHADING DEVICE CREATED A LIGHT VEIL SYSTEM TO ISOLATE THE INTERIOR SPACES FROM THE EXTERIOR SPACES.
