President Speaks Dear Fellow Rotarians As I take the batten of service from predecessor Rtn Prasad I remember the day when I was invited to join Rotary by Rtn Pravin Gadekar in the year 1999 during the Presidentship of Rtn Adv Vishwas Sardesai.

As a member of this great Club I started enjoying the friendship and fellowship, but my involvement in Rotary changed by mind to serve the community.

It is my great privilege to accept this prestigious post of President of Rotary Club of Bicholim. I take this opportunity to thank al my fellow Rotarians and Rotary Family for giving me this responsibility to serve this club as the President.

I am sure with the dedication and support you all have espressed to me, we together will succeed in taking this club to new heights with a change.

Rotary International asks for sustainable growth in membership to meet the increasing need for volunteers in service. I welcome new members Rtn Sargam, tn Vindesh and Rtn Viraj to this Rotary World.

I know power brings in responsibility, I do not want to express any promises but let our actions speak by themselves.

Let us rededicate ourselves to the motto of “Service Above Self “and become a Gift to the World!

Message July 2015 Rotary International President K.R.Ravindran We in Rotary aspire to great deeds. We admire those who gave great gifts to humanity: Abraham Lincoln, who gave the gift of human dignity to the downtrodden; Mother Teresa, who gave the gift of compassion to the forgotten; Mahatma Gandhi, who gave the gift of peaceful change to the oppressed. Their very lives became gifts to the world.

We can be inspired by their example.

We can be inspired to ask, how can I, in the life that I live - without neglecting the responsibilities that are so dear to me - how can I, too, become a gift to the world? As I considered my theme, I thought of the lessons I have learned through my Hindu faith. I thought especially of the story of Sudama.

Sudama was a poor child and a bosom friend of Krishna, who was born in a royal lineage as an avatar - an incarnation of the divine. As the two boys grow up, they drift apart, and while Krishna becomes a military leader and king of great repute, Sudama remains a humble villager.

The years go by and Sudama's poverty deepens. Finally, he lacks even food to feed his children. His wife reminds him of his childhood friendship with Krishna: Perhaps it is time to go to the mighty ruler for help. Reluctantly, Sudama agrees, but resolves that he will not go empty-handed. He gathers together a few handfuls of rice - all the food his family has left and wraps them in a piece of cloth as a gift for his friend.

When Sudama enters the palace, he is overwhelmed by the grandeur and by Krishna's gracious welcome. His meager gift, so carefully prepared, seems a humiliating reminder of his poverty. Krishna embraces Sudama, who hides the hand holding the rice behind his back.

Far from being disdainful, Krishna accepts the rice with gratitude and consumes it with joy as the two sit and talk together. Hours pass, during which the pleasures of their rekindled friendship push all thoughts of his desperate plight from Sudama's mind. When evening falls, Sudama sets out for home - and only then realizes that he has neglected his task. He is returning with nothing, and Krishna has eaten his family's last grains of rice.

Sudama steels himself to return to his hungry children. But standing before his gate, as dawn begins to break, he sees that the hut he left yesterday has become a stately home, and waiting to greet him is his own family: welldressed, and well-fed by the baskets of food that appeared in their kitchen as Krishna ate each grain of Sudama's rice.

Krishna understood what Sudama had brought him: everything he had to give. In return, Krishna gave him everything he needed.

It is never the material value of a gift that matters - it is the love that comes with it. Just as Sudama's gift to Krishna became a gift to Sudama, what we give through Rotary becomes a gift to us. And we all have a choice: whether to keep our gifts to ourselves or give them to others, and Be a Gift to the World.

We have only one chance at our lives. And we will have only one chance at this new Rotary year. This is our time. Let us grasp it. Let us Be a Gift to the World.

Born in 1959 in the village Ravora in Bardez Taluka Rtn Narahari comes from a Farmer family. He did his schooling through St Rita High School.

He started his professional career by joining M/s Raut Roadways Corlim Old Goa as Manager.

In the year 1984 he started a Transport Company Office in Bicholim. He was Agent for M/s Rajesh Roadways Pvt Ltd and in the year 1986 he started his own Transport company M/s Rajesh Roadways and another oraganization M/s Omkar Traders dealing in distribution of Oxygen Cylinders in this town of Bicholim.

Rtn Narahari was inducted to Rotary World at the hands of Past District Governor Rtn Rajendra Doshi on 11th November 1999 durnig his official visit to our club, and ever since he has served the Rotary Club of Bicholim in various capacities, like Vice President, Director Club Service, Chairman Polio Plus, Chairman Fellowship and President Elect.

Rtn Narahari has also showed his leadership qualities as President of Samrat Club of Bicholim a few years back.

Rtn Narahari has served the as the Director of Bicholim Merchant’s Cooperative Credit Society, also he is a member of Bicholim Market Association.

He enjoys Fishing, Farming and Swimming.

Ramanand Mahabaleshwar Natekar working as a senior teacher in Radhakrishna Vidyalaya Bicholim. He did his schooling in Shri Shantadurga High School. Rtn Ramanand is a post Graduate in Social Studies. He has to his credit a Diploma as well as a degree in education He has worked as paper setter and moderator for Goa Board of Secondary Education Examination in Geography subject.

Rtn Ramanand is a active member of Bicholim Cricket Club. He has represented Goa State in Cricket for under Nineteen and under 23 tournaments.. He has served the Goa Cricket Association in the capacity as the Chairman of selection committee for Goa Under 14 Cricket Team.

He is the director of Bicholim Urban cooperative Bank for last sixteen years. His hobbies are cricket, music and traveling.

Rtn Sargam Falari

Rtn Sargam Rajendra Falari lives in Bicholim, from where he also operates his trading and distribution business in essential commodities. He has been fully involved with his family business ever since he completed his education In NIT Warangal from where he obtained his B.Tech in computer science degree in 2002.

Sargam was 2nd ranker in Physics-ChemistryMaths in the 12th standard in Goa which helped him to secure the coveted seat at NIT Warangal, one of the most reputed Engineering Colleges in India. Sargam is versatile and has a drive to excel in whatever he does and perhaps that explains how he captained his cricket team in Higher Secondary School and college. Sargam's hobbies are cricket, chess travelling and music, to which he devotes a lot of time. Sargam is married to Sneha and has two sons - Swayam and Shravan.

Rtn Vindesh Shirodkar Born as the elder son to Vinayak(Jaya) Shirodkar and Vijaya Vinayak Shirodkar,on 12 October 1987, Vindesh Shirodkar, completed his schooling in distinction at Our Lady Of Grace High School Bicholim. After completing his higher secondary education in Science in Shri Shantadurga Higher secondary school, Vindesh pursued a software engineering degree in Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi Goa. In 2009,after completing his BE in computers, Vindesh joined TATA consultancy services, and served on various projects in Mumbai, Hyderabad in India and many places in the Middle-East abroad. In 2013, Vindesh resigned from the company to dive into his family business of cashew nut

Together with his family, he has started another cashew nut manufacturing unit in Navelim Amona and added new marketing dimensions to the existing traditional business. A keen reader, Vindesh holds a key interest in international politics and has participated in many debates and seminars on these issues in and outside Goa. He also is a trained harmonium player and an avid football fan.

Rtn Viraj Shirodkar Viraj Vinayak Shirodkar, second son of Vinayak And Vijaya , was born on 15th may 1989. He completed his education in commerce s e c u r i n g 1 s t ra n k i n Bicholim taluka. With a vision to join his father's business ,he decided to do BBA degree from Saraswat college Mapusa. He was Awarded BEST ALL-ROUNDER for the year 2008-09 of Saraswat College for facility layout mapping for the distillery at UNITED BREWERIES LTD, Bethora Goa. He also gained valuable experience in distribution network of PEPSICO North Goa. In 2010, he did his MBA from S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research Mumbai in family managed business, operational management as major.

He joined GODREJ SARA- LEE Mumbai, as strategic planner, and grabbed an experience of one year before joining his family business.

Currently, he is with his father as managing partner at RADHARAM CASHEW PRODUCTS focusing more upon Leveraging core strengths, to develop new business and secure strategic alliances. He and his brother have started a new cashew processing plant in the name of JAYRAJ CASHEW INDUSTRIES, Navelim. Viraj is an Astute communicator, presenter and adepts at establishing rewarding relationships to benefit business growth. He is also a renowned stage actor and a State level Stage performer as Tabla percussionist.

Summer time

Hey everyone, Its the end of June and it was time for the yearly Rotary overnight picnic. Like every other Annette even I was excited about the picnic. This year the picnic took place at the Heritage Village Resort, Arossim on 21 and 22 of June 2015.

The karaoke. After dinner we all went to the pool side to relax and enjoy the cool breeze and suddenly the first lady suggested that we should start Antakshari and so we did. After around an hour all the Rotarians who were busy with their own gupshup heard the anns singing and came and challenged the anns to beat them. Obviously challenging is always a bad idea and there as no looking back after that. I never knew that our anns could sing so well. Our Antakshari went on till 12 a.m. and then most of the people went to sleep looking forward to a We checked in at around 11:30 a.m. more enjoyable day 2! and were given a warm welcome and served some amazing mock tails. Soon more members started coming and by the time we were having lunch most of the Rotary family had arrived.

After having an amazing lunch since we were full most of us went to enjoy our afternoon naps.

At around 5 p.m. everyone joined for evening tea and snacks after which we all went to the conference hall for the meeting held. Since our PM has started Mann Ki Baat, the President gave us all a chance to give our views about the current year through the Mann Ki Baat of Rotary Family. After the meeting we went to have dinner while some of the members went to see June 22 was International Yoga Day and rotary family was seen following it with most of the people exercising. It was later followed by breakfast and then all the kids and the men went for swimming. At around 10:30 after all the kids were out we started games for the anns and the annettes. the first game that was held was the blowing of cups with a balloon and Dr. Saroj Desai seemed to be very good at it and won. The second game was a spot prize for naming all the 12 workshops held in the year 2014-15 and Ann. Sheela Shetye proved that

Annette.Shanvee Sawant, second was for the new annette which was won by Annette.

Swayam Falari and third was for the youngest participant which was won by Annette. Purvi Sawant.

After games we went to enjoy our lunch. Since 22 june was also celebrated as fathers day we had a special game for all the Rotarians and that was read the colour. Since it was impossible to gather all the Rotarians at one place we took the trouble of going to each and every member and making them play the She has a really good memory and won the prize. Third game was based on a workshop conducted by Annette. Mayank Karapurkar, all the participants were given fashion strings and were asked to make a pattern out of it, Annette.

Ira Sardesai won the prize in this one. Next was Bowling, and Annette. Neha Sawant seemed to excel at it. Next was a simple game of brain vita and Ann. Tara Sardesai won the prize. Next game was about arranging cups in minimum time and Ann. Rupa Lad won the prize.

Next we had games for the annettes, first one was in and out and the prize was won by annette. Snigdha Nayak, later was bombing the city won by Annette. Gandha Nayak and the final game was number grouping won by two annettes, Annette. Shaivee Sawant & Annette.

Kritika Kamat. Three spot prizes were given, one for the youngest annette which was won by

game. Trust me it was worth the struggle because we could see them struggling to read the colours. But Rtn. Vishesh Mardolkar found a trick to finally read the colours and won the prize. Finally it was time to pack up and go home. The picnic had come to an end. Two really amazing days with loads and loads of fun.
