Dear Members, Partners & Friends,

It is with pride and excitement that we announce a transition in leadership at the St. Lucie Cultural Alliance. The pride is for Dieulanie Claude, our dedicated leader, who has accepted a fantastic employment opportunity with another organization. She has furthered

the mission of the Alliance by hosting monthly art walks, hosting art exhibitions, developing partnerships, and managing the organization. In addition, the work Dieulanie and her team did in organizing twenty free public concerts for the Levitt Foundation Grant was nothing short of amazing. We wish her the best in her new position. Dieulanie, sincerely, thank you for all you’ve done for the Alliance, you were the hero we needed. We are grateful for your commitment to the Alliance that will serve as a foundation for the future.

We're excited to welcome Maddie Williams as our Interim Executive Director. Having worked with her on several projects and as a member of her previous organization, I’m confident her leadership will shape the future of the Alliance. I'm especially excited for what this means for our members, friends, and partners. Maddie is an exceptional organizer and leader, and I look forward to seeing how she’ll incorporate your feedback.

As Maddie settles into her new role, we invite you to visit The Vault Art Gallery and explore our local art collection—perfect for starting your Christmas shopping! The Art of Pottery

Treasure Coast Pottery (TCP) is making waves in St. Lucie County by building a community around the joy of pottery, ceramics, and painting. Open to everyone aged seven and up, TCP is the area’s only dedicated art studio, creating a welcoming space for both experienced artists and eager beginners. With a diverse range of classes— from wheel throwing, hand-building, sculpture, and acrylic painting, along with specialized programs for homeschoolers—TCP has become a creative hub for artistic exploration.

Top:ShelbyRoberts’finishedwheel-thrownbowl;Middle: Studentsinpaintingclass:LauraMehr,TheresaTellis, CindyLinsinbigler,andCathleenSullivan;Bottom: Halloweenyouth/parentbuild.

The studio fosters a collaborative environment, and plans are underway for a special community project. TCP is dedicated to increasing its involvement in local arts and culture, continuously brainstorming new ways to engage the public.

Programs and Collaborations

TCP formed a dynamic partnership with Zoey Alyssa Bridges, a local muralist with public artwork displayed on buildings in Ft. Pierce and other locations. Ms. Bridges teaches handbuilding classes at TCP and as of late, her acrylic painting classes have blossomed into a rich program of classes offered for folks wishing to explore more than pottery at TCP. With this success, we hope to offer more art mediums to fill the creative needs of our community.

“We are extremely excited to share that TCP is now an approved vendor through Florida’s Step Up for Students, allowing us to offer pottery and painting classes to our homeschooler population,” says studio owner Cathleen Sullivan. “We launched our first set of classes in September, and they were a big hit!”.

Two new Homeschooler classes began in early November and are in full swing with 15 young artists ages 7-17 learning and creating art at the studio.

The Future of TCP and Local Arts

Treasure Coast Pottery (TCP) believes that arts and culture strengthen communities and foster connections. Beyond teaching pottery, its mission is to enhance well-being by nurturing creativity, which promotes purpose, reduces stress, and builds confidence. The studio empowers local youth and adults to develop new skills and express their individuality through unique artworks.

The youth are our future. Art stimulates creativity, promotes problem-solving, builds self-esteem, and selfexpression, provides rest, relaxation, and connects kids to people and the world,” says Cathleen.

This spring, TCP welcomed Robbin Buller, a production potter and former ceramic art professor. Over the past six months, his expertise has transformed TCP into a premier learning environment, elevating the studio from a collective of artists to a hub for creative education.

In March, TCP introduced Eduardo Gomez Rojas, a classically trained sculptor with a strong exhibition background. Rojas's public art is featured in Stuart and Port St. Lucie, FL. As sculpture instructor, he has taught popular portraiture and bas-relief classes, with an upcoming animal sculpture class in November.

The contributions of Zoey, Rob, and Eduardo have significantly elevated the quality of art produced at TCP, enriching the artistic journeys of our members and students.

Running a creative studio comes with many challenges. However, TCP thrives thanks to its dedicated team of educators and supporters. The collaborative spirit among staff and connections with organizations like the St. Lucie Cultural Alliance has been crucial in navigating these challenges.

To stay updated, subscribe to their weekly emails or follow them on social media. Visitors are always welcome to tour the studio and experience the creative energy firsthand. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner, TCP is the perfect place to explore your creativity and join a creative community. For more information, visit treasurecoastpottery.com

THEARTOFTRANSFORMATION:

A Journey through Clay and Creativity

For Jeanne Thompson, known as Sym in the art world, ceramics is more than just a craft—it’s a personal motivation to push technical and aesthetic boundaries of selfexpression.Hercurrentworkisdeeplyinspiredbytheflowing forms of driftwood and the harmonious balance of bonsai tree design. In her hands, clay becomes a medium for exploration and aesthetic expression. “The challenge is to interprettheelementsIlikebestwithoutallowingittoappear contrived,”sheexplains.

Jeanne's first experience with ceramics occurred at age 12 in Shreveport, Louisiana, when she first saw a potter’s wheel demonstration. Mesmerized, she told her mother, “I don’t know how or when, but I WILL learn to do this.” That Christmas, her mother gifted her a toy potter’s wheel, which spurred her interest until she finally took her first ceramicsclassincollege.

Jeanne'screativeprocessisrootedin

The second breakthrough came in late 2020 when Jeanne contracted COVID-19 and found herself in quarantine. Despitefeelinglowenergy, sheusedthetimetocreatethe

Guided by basic design principles, she integrates elements of driftwood and bonsai trees into her creations. “I want to keeptherawnessandgracefulness, suggestingmovementin everypiece,”sheexplains.
