A MESSAGE FROM OREGON CHILDREN’S THEATRE I am so excited that you are seeing James and The Giant Peach. I love this show! It’s got a great cast, beautiful music, and a story that has fascinated generations of children. That is the heart of Oregon Children’s Theatre: stories. Next season promises stories that will delight, amaze, inspire, and entertain you and your family.

Goosebumps: Phantom of the Auditorium is a slightly spooky musical that will be a perfect fall treat. We are so excited to present our first-ever mystery! Who is the strange new student auditioning for the school play? Is the school haunted? Is the play cursed? All will be revealed in this world premiere musical. Fly Guy: The Musical is a wacky story— and another world premiere musical. How many boys can say they’ve got a fly for a pet? A fly who also knows how to say the

boy’s name...“Buzzzz!” “And how many would enter their fly in a talent contest?! You won’t want to miss the crazy hijinks that ensue.

Flora & Ulysses is a Newbery Award winning book by Kate DiCamillo (the author of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane!). The story is so quirky and funny that I laughed out loud when I read it. Let’s just do a quick rundown of the plot: a squirrel (Ulysses) gets sucked up by a super suction vacuum cleaner. He’s saved by a girl named Flora and realizes he has been transformed into a super squirrel who can both fly and write poetry. The story is at once ridiculous, magical, and heartwarming. It’s also another world premiere. (If you’re counting, that’s THREE world premieres next season!) I have wanted to present Tomás and the Library Lady for years and it finally fits perfectly in a season. Tomás Rivera and his family are migrant workers. They spend long days in the fields harvesting

crops. It is hard work. But one day Tomás discovers the library and a whole new world of possibilities. Based on an inspiring true story, the play illustrates the power of positive encouragement and how believing in someone can motivate them to do exceptional things.

Pinkalicious is back and quite frankly this is not just a musical, it is an EVENT. Because our audience tends to dress thematically, the moment you enter the theater you will be engulfed in a joyous swirl of all things pink. The joy continues on stage in this fast-paced, totally silly musical. We are so grateful that you have joined us today. Please join us next season, it will be amazing.

PORTLAND’5 CENTERS FOR THE ARTS Founded in 1988, Oregon Children’s Theatre (OCT) is Oregon’s largest nonprofit professional children’s theater company. OCT’s mission is to create exceptional theater experiences that transform lives. OCT annually reaches 120,000 children, parents, and educators from more than 18 Oregon and four Washington counties. OCT offers a year-round Acting Academy for students ages 3–18 and the unique Young Professionals mentoring program. The company also offers a range of services to schools and the community, including teacher professional development, resource guides and suggested lesson plans, Loud & Clear (a public speaking workshop), an extensive outreach program, and student internship and apprenticeship opportunities. Under the shared vision of healthier kids and communities, Kaiser Permanente Northwest and OCT are delivering free Educational Theatre Programs to schools and community organizations in Oregon and SW Washington. This innovative collaboration helps catalyze healthy life choices. Through free touring productions, residencies, workshops and after-school programs, the Educational Theatre Program has served over 200,000 students since its inception in 2006. Oregon Children’s Theatre is a resident company of Portland’5 Centers for the Arts and a member of Theatre Communications Group, Travel Portland, and ASSITEJ, the international children’s theater association.
