Winter Weekend Matinees New this year, several venues are timing their shows so you can have a great afternoon’s entertainment and avoid dark, icy roads. We think this will be a popular idea for those of us who hate winter night driving (me included!). These events will have added extras such as afternoon tea: see the listings for details.

GARDENS FESTIVAL

You’re never too young for live theatre! Kinder Gardens theatre for young children Puppet Lab – Funnybones

Birdsnest Theatre – Blown Away

This autumn between October and December we have 25 performances from four companies in local venues across the two counties. These shows have been made especially for young children under seven as a perfect introduction to the theatre. Familiar venues, small audiences, designed not to intimidate but to reassure, so they can sit back and enjoy the theatre experience. Handa’s Surprise, Funnybones, Little Red You Know Who and Blown Away: delightful stories brought to life and shared with a grown-up; bright ideas for curious little minds, memorable and fun. Please take your children along and encourage others to give it a try too. Children love live theatre, they sit engrossed, remember characters and songs, and talk about it for months afterwards.

Little Angel Theatre – Handa’s Surprise

As we go to print not all the show times are confirmed, so do keep an eye on our website and look for Kinder Gardens specific publicity; please spread the word. LIVE EVENTS

For Once by Tim Price “A small, quiet cracker of a family drama... it has the lurking power of an unexploded bomb” The Guardian A tender, heartbreaking and comic play which, through a series of intertwining accounts, cuts to the heart of a family and a community turned upside down by tragedy. This show is intimate, touching and in places very funny. It’s the story of a family in a picture postcard market town whose lives are turned upside down when their son becomes the lone survivor of a teenage car crash. It doesn’t dwell on the tragedy but on the reality of life, and is touching, funny and revealing about things that happen in the face of awful circumstances. A short family drama about growing up, growing old and being alive. www.pentabus.co.uk
