By chance during my travels, I ended up in a patch of sea in the southernmost tropical region of China. That's where I stumbled upon this maritime community, The Danjia Village. The fishermen arrived at this sea in disarray, then drifted upon it like eggshells, adopting the sea as their home and enduring a difficult existence. Numerous aspects of their way of life differ from those on land and, in my view, carry a hint of magical realism.
