Editor’s Note

This is a very special issue. As we celebrate our 12th anniversary, we reminisce the very special moments we have featured through the years. From the high season in Palm Beach to the exciting galas in Miami and New York City, plus the beautiful Equestrian Wellington. Our new series, The Art Bodega Collection sponsored by Gumbits (EQ sections), consists of a series of special articles we produce by combining high-end fashion and the beautiful people. A carefully curated process of stories and the top riders, and other stories like the one of Carol Roth, the 103-yearold woman that has captivated Tik Tok, mother to Peter Thomas Roth.

We offer you an array of sophisticated families that represent the best of best in the country, not only do they love horses, they preserve the natural eco-system we so much need in our planet, while creating jobs. Be it a philanthropist in Miami, or a dressage rider with Olympic hopes. Here we also talk with the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce President, Doug Evans. His insight into what makes Palm Beach unique explains in detail the beauty of the Island. The Boca Raton was another unique experience. Considered a gem in the nation, the incomparable resort produced the best international event alongside the Napa Valley Vintners. We also covered the Bal Harbour Access Pop-Up in Charleston, celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the famous luxury retail brand in the world, founded by Stanley Whitman, and the Formula One Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix, photographed by celebrity photographer, Antoine Verglas.

BAL HARBOUR SHOPS POP UP

Approaching the old charm town of Charleston, I have visited the wondrous city several times in the last few years. Nonetheless, nothing prepared me for the experience of the marvelous Bal Harbour Pop-Up Access brought by the business genius of Bal Harbour Shops President and CEO Matthew Whitman Lazenby. The luxury retail giant brought the 30 custom-built shipping containers on a touring experiential project of branded pop-ups in the United States, including Destin, Florida, Greenville, South Carolina, and currently Charleston, South Carolina.

The impressive installation is what captured my attention. The area was strategically chosen to be near Charleston. Just crossing The Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge, one of the most famous landmarks that straddles the Cooper River and connects Mount Pleasant to downtown Charleston, you find a vast area that connects you to the soothing sounds and breeze of the river. Bordering the water, the luxury popup welcomes you with a fully staffed venue that consists of local hires and representatives from Bal Harbour. As you enter the facility, the pleasant smiles are glad to accompany you, ready to customize your experience for your needs. From Tiffany & Company to the beautiful Assouline Pop-Up, where you can find

the most luxurious books on the market, this concept is perfect for the sophisticated shopper who wants to take a friend to lunch, while looking for the perfect present, or for that father who wants to take her daughter and have a meal at the Whitman, the luxury in-dining venue carefully decorated with great black and white shots of fashionable women. The food here was superb. Every bite was delightful.

From the caramelized onion and goat cheese tart that melts in your mouth to the mojo braised veal cheek that was soft, organic, and delicious, every dish here was perfectly executed by the Constellation Culinary Group. The inviting atmosphere of The Whitman makes you not want to leave such an elegant dining spot. Also, The Whitman cheeseburger is a must! It comes with smashed caramelized onions and pickles in a brioche bun with a perfectly mixed Whitman sauce. Oh la la! It awakens all your senses. I get goosebumps just reminiscing about that perfectly sensory experience.

Outside on the patio, surrounded by the sumptuous garden, with the shop’s palm-tree motif and garden-like planters filled with lush greenery -with the only exception of the colorful koi fish that is in the actual mall in Bal Harbourgroups gather to enjoy the perfect daylight weather we were experiencing during our visit. The wine was delightful, as the food was. Perfect for any socializing, this pop-up surpassed our expectations. Ready to shop, we go to the stores, which include Tiffany & Company, Versace, Balmain, and more shops. The beautiful outfits, carefully curated to

rotate inside an array of excellent stores you might not find on King Street, await your presence. The entire concept is so desirable to shop, resulting in a luxury experience like none other. The occasion marks the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the famous mall that has captivated us since 1965, and what better way to honor this milestone for the retail giant in the luxury market, than by taking it to other beloved cities in the country. www.balharbourshops.com

WHAT’S NEW

Since 2020, Bal Harbour Shops in Bal Harbour has been undergoing a significant expansion and development plan to maintain its status as a premier luxury shopping destination. The planned project includes a $550 million expansion that will nearly double its retail space, adding around 400,000 square feet to accommodate 35 new upscale stores and restaurants.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

In 1965, when owner/developer Stanley Whitman opened Florida’s first exclusive, high-fashion shopping center on what had been the site of a World War II army barracks, retail experts scoffed at the ambitious Bal Harbour Shops’ upscale store mix. After all, at that time the norm was to mix essential service tenants—such as grocery and hardware stores—with retail. And, with the advent of air conditioning sweeping the nation, enormous, enclosed malls surrounded by seas of asphalt parking as far as the eye could see were being built at breakneck speed.

Bucking the trend, Bal Harbour Shops was designed to celebrate the balmy beauty of South Florida. Ideally situated between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay in the affluent village of Bal Harbour, the lushly landscaped, open-air destination didn’t look or feel like any other center in the United States. Even its parking areas with their generous palm canopies, were designed with comfort, convenience, and natural beauty in mind.

Bal Harbour Shops’ early success was largely due to Whitman’s resolve in persuading Neiman Marcus, in 1971, to open its first specialty department store outside its native Texas and in luring designer boutiques that previously could only be found along the Champs-Elysées in Paris.

The Whitman Saint Urban's IS A DELIGHT FOR THE PALATE

When you enter Saint Urban’s, you feel an air of European glamour nestled in the heart of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Located near the ever-expanding Charleston, the area is now synonymous with glamour, luxury, and old charm town feeling that makes you fall in love with it every step of the way. The narrow establishment is always packed; here, you can enjoy an ever-changing menu of farmhouse cheeses, charcuterie, and small plates. We tried the anchovies with paprika, and we couldn’t

enjoy it more, delicious for the voracious appetite of good foodies. Me, I am one of those! Warren Johnson is constantly present, making sure you have a unique experience.

He alongside his partner, Chad Besenfelder, founded the restaurant located at l’On Square, where other businesses look delightful and special. The menu list is intentionally succinct, with each label tasted and selected by Warren himself. Named after the patron saint of vintners, Saint Urban’s wine program leans

toward the old world, with clean, easy-drinking wines available by the glass. As we sipped our delicious pinot gris wine, we enjoyed the hand-selected cheese the staff recommended. It literally melted in your palate, waking up the senses of pleasant memories, as if you were visiting the South of France, in the proximity of a great destination city, like Charleston. Our early settlers couldn’t have been prouder of this little charm and cozy eatery that enthralls to the delight of the sophisticated.

FORMULA 1 LAS VEGAS TAKES OVER

FORMULA 1 HEINEKEN SILVER
LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX

The magic of LAS VEGAS during the FORMULA 1 RACE

Arriving at the Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix was a unique experience. Joined by one of the most celebrated photographers in the World, Antoine Verglas, we covered the fun weekend full of glamour, celebs, and the fast and furious roaring of the cars speeding the racetracks built to change Las Vegas. The city that saw Frank Sinatra's Rat Pack and Elvis Presley's conquer the hearts of millions is now one of the biggest capitals of the entertainment industry.

Formula 1 racing teams gather to celebrate such an immense sports event in the USA. The flashing and colorful lights were the background of this spectacle, an avalanche of crowds circling the Vegas Trip, visiting different grandstands, all sponsored by the beloved American brands we so much like to hear on our radio and television sets. Gambling, casino excitement, and the roaring sound of speed filled my ears, something I had never experienced before. It was immense and wonderful and filled our hearts with joy and wonder. ➤

Sexy Celebs, Cars & Hotels

Celeb-packed hotels that Verglas and I witnessed, a succession of red-carpet events resembling the Cannes Film Festival, but this time, it was in Las Vegas. Jay Leno walked through the halls of the Wynn Resort, one of the most unique properties for hospitality glamour, as he hosted the amfAR Gala, the charity that raises the most funds in the fight against HIV. Beautiful women carrying the train of their dresses, a vintage Cavalli dress being auctioned off to benefit amfAR, Sylvester Stallone and his family being honored, plus the Paramount suite at the Hospitality VIP section.

Did we meet Elvis? Of course, we did. The Elvis impersonator took us back to that era, all while being walking through the fabulous entertainment hall with Gordon Ramsay's restaurants and Papi Steak. The cocktails were delicious, you are being entertained constantly while watching the races live and on the gigantic screens positioned throughout the grandstands. This last November, we saw George Russell of Mercedes AMG Petronas emerge in Formula 1 while Max Verstappen claimed the 2024 World Drivers' Championship. Other fun events were the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli, plus the enormous T-Mobile Stage with the well-known Sphere in the background, making a glorious delight for the spectators. ➤

The entertainment never stops….

Famous acts included Ludacris, Alesso, and One Republic, plus Shakehips, Big Boi, and Vandelux. The 50 laps of intense competition across the 3.8-mile track while we visited Ceasar's Palace Grandstand were so impressive that we didn't want to leave our spot. More than 306,000 people attended the event, which pumped more than 500 million dollars into the City of Las Vegas. Elvis would be proud.

ABOUT THE AMFAR GALA

Icon Diana Ross performed at amfAR's inaugural Las Vegas benefit event on November 22, 2024. Academy Award-winning actor, writer, and director Sylvester Stallone and accomplished entrepreneur, philanthropist, and model Jennifer Stallone were honored.

The Stallones received amfAR's Award of Inspiration in recognition of their generous support of amfAR's lifesaving work, in addition to numerous other causes related to health, education, and women's rights. Previous recipients of the award include Richard Gere, Ava DuVernay, Cher, Miley Cyrus, and Charlize Theron, among many others.

The exclusive event, took place during the race weekend at Wynn Las Vegas, which included a seated gala dinner and a live auction of exquisite contemporary art and luxury experiences. "amfAR was thrilled to be bringing this signature fundraising gala to Las Vegas," said amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost. "We are deeply grateful to our performers, honorees and sponsors, and to Wynn Las Vegas ➤

Fun at night!

for hosting this event and for recognizing the importance of amfAR's lifesaving work." amfAR Las Vegas took place at Wynn Las Vegas, the event's official hotel and resort partner.

RENOWNED SPORT HORSE

Emma Kasselmann Delights the Dressage World

Photography by Nick Garcia

I met Emma at her family’s Hof Kasselmann, sport horse breeding and training farm in the summer of 2023 Her family has been linked to the land in the idyllic Teutoburger Forest as far back as the 12th century. Can one in the United States even fathom that thought, when Italian Christopher Columbus discovered us in 1492 or the 15th century? I think few in this country live on their family land dating all the way back to the 15th century Emma was then eleven, happily riding her jumping pony She is the oldest of the two sisters. Then and now, I still see her eye always watching to protect her sister. At her home in Germany there are always international clients and guests coming through her home. She has learned from a young age to be a wonderful hostess greeting the guests and many VIPs coming for entertainment dinners and business meetings with her famous grandparents Ulli and Bianca Kasselmann, as well as her own parents, Francois & Diana.

That summer, I was impressed as I am still today that Emma takes care of her pony and now jumping horse. Her parents teach that if you have animals, you must learn to care for them, from cleaning the stalls to feeding, to tacking them up. In Wellington, Florida, the winter capital of equestrian sport, the trainers here, keep the pony kids and juniors on a tight schedule by having their own staff do the care and tacking for the children and teenager clients who show up for their lessons and show times so they can meet the demands of their own regimented schedule.

It’s interesting that Emma has a love for show jumping growing up on a predominantly dressage sport breeding farm. Like her father, the thrill of flying over the fences on her horse now, you can see the joy in her eye, as well as the love for her animals. She is not spoiled like you might imagine. In fact, she is strong willed and will certainly be a leader in whatever she chooses for her future.

“Emma wants what Emma wants”, and best not get in her way. I say this in a kind way, because she is not rude or disrespectful, just very clear what she wants. Of course, by now knowing her strong family members, one can tell she is cut out to take over the Dynasty when her day arrives. Our Art Bodega shoot was not what we expected, thinking we were photographing Emma and her sister, two young girls. But cameras do not lie, and all of a sudden you can see the strength of her beautiful soul coming out. It was a fun day and Emma is such a beautiful girl inside and out. To watch her progress in her show jumping career is going to be exciting. She is already doing victory laps and recently was Reserve Champion at CSI* 1.25m in Horses & Dreams in Hagen, Germany.

“EMMA WANTS WHAT EMMA WANTS”

THE OLYMPIC TORCH is said to symbolize the light of spirit, knowledge and life. “The passing of the torch from one runner to another runner acknowledges collective human achievements as they move from community to community, spreading goodwill to all.”Art BodegaDecember2023feature I wrote this story featuring Francois Kasselmann, son of Ulli Kasselmann who built Performance Sales International (PSI) with his partner of over forty years, Paul Schockemöhle. The two men got together in 1980 and came up with the idea of a combined auction of their respective breeding farms, one dressage horses the other jumping to be held in America. The first event in 1981 became so successful that the men moved the auction to their German homeland. The young men in their 80' s could not have predicted annual sales as high as $24 million realized in 2022. Francois took over the family business, including a robust strategy to strengthen their all ready strong ties with America. In 2021 and 2022 he took head rider Frederic Wandres with some of their top horses to Wellington. By 2023, Francois purchased their Hof Kasselmann USA based Wellington farm. All the pieces of the puzzle were coming together in 2024, with “Freddie” winning at the Olympics for a Team Gold, and the move of his family for now two winter seasons. The two daughters Emma and Lilly found how much they love American school coordinating back with their German teachers. And now 2025, five years in the making the beautiful light is touching the girls who are growing up in Wellington.

The history of the Lionel Guerrand-Hermès Trophy is described by Philip Richter, USET Trustee. Let's take a moment to pray for then Lionel Guerrand Hermès who died at the age of 18, whose father Patrick set up this special award in 1983. Lionel was an up and coming talented Show Jumper training in the United States. Sadly, his life ended short, killed in a car accident. USET presents annually to a Junior/Young Rider in an Olympic discipline who exemplifies the Team's ideals of sportsmanship and horsemanship.

Thrilled to receive the Lionel Guerrand-Hermès Trophy by Philip Richter, USET Trustee presented by James McNerney & Kristi Mitchem, 17 year old Kat, responds:

“I’m really excited because the riders that have received the award previously have gone on to achieve unbelievable accomplishments as professionals,” said Fuqua. “The fact that I’m on that list alongside those athletes is really special. It was also unexpected because I didn’t know I was in contention, so it was a big surprise when I got a call from the USET Foundation. If you’re

ever invited to anything, like a pathway program, even if it feels like a lot of work, just do it,” continued Fuqua. “It might be an open window to something you don’t see now. You could meet someone who could completely change your career, or you could learn something that will help you transform your riding. I’d like to thank the USET Foundation and USEF for supporting me and my career along the pathway. Thank you to my parents and my groom Pepe, who has been with us since I was 9 and is DreamGirl’s best friend.”

(DreamGirl& Kat rode on the US Team for Young Riders in Europe two years in a row, received 4 Gold Medals, 1 Bronze and 1 Silver, riding in the Nations Cup twice in Germany, the FEI North American National Championships, and CHIO Aachen, Germany, for 5th of Invitational Dressage Competition. Some say, Aachen is more prestigious than the Olympics.)

MIDNIGHT GOLD 1

Midway through season I got a call that a stunning Grand Prix horse is available and is a Totilas. Everyone in competitive dressage in the world knows the black Dutch Stallion known as “Toto”. “Toto” and Dutch Edward Gal rode him to three Gold Medals in the 2009 FEI Dressage World Cup in London and setting a world recordbreaking freestyle with a score of 92.3%. My interest was peaked and so I met Karen Pavicic.

Karen owns 13 year old Hanoverian Totem, son of Totilas that she has had since three months old. So I was fascinated to meet both of them. Totem is now 13 years old with an impressive record of over 2 dozen FEI starts. But the most spectacular resume of both of them is that Karen and Totem rode at Aachen a CDI3* and recently CDI4* placing fifth. I am lucky to see the talented Totem at his barn in Wellington just arriving from Germany where Karen trains her upcoming young horses. I watched in awe as Karen rode quietly her horse she has trained for his whole life. She rides with grace and style, and as we all want “one with the horse.” After her horse nudges with her as she walks him back to untack him. Karen trains all her horses and shyly states she does her own grooming as well. It is refreshing and peaceful to see the bond between the two of them, and the way we should all find time to manage our horses. One with the Horse!

MEET KAREN:

Karen is a Canadian High Performance Coach, and an International FEI Dressage Judge and Athlete. She has successfully trained numerous horses to the esteemed, FEI level – and her exemplary record of successes in the National and International arenas confirms her talent as a gifted rider and competitor. A superb coach and role model, Karen enjoys the enthusiastic support of the many loyal and dedicated students who have achieved success under her guidance.

she was the reserve rider for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janiro, Brazil (Canada unfortunately did not qualify to send a team, only 2 Individuals). In 2008 she won the Foreign Rider award at the Sydney, Australia CDI securing Team Gold for Canada.

Karen proudly represented Canada many times as a listed athlete on the Canadian Equestrian Team. Highlights of her career to date include being a member of the Canadian Silver Medal team at the 2007 Pan Am Games, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and a member of the 2014 Canadian World Equestrian Games Team in Normandy, France. In 2016

Karen continues to regularly work with International trainers to further learn and hone her skills. She has also trained and competed in Europe to gain valuable experience and exposure to International judges essential to future successes. Karen is a well recognized athlete with an unwavering desire to continue to compete at prestigious, International tournaments. In January of 2018, Karen changed her sports nationality to ride for Croatia to help

promote Dressage in this developing country, and to stay in line with the FEI’s initiative to have more flags represented at International events. In 2017 Karen embarked on another interesting and related field in her sport of Dressage, commentator for the FEI World Cup in Omaha, a new and challenging role. In 2018 she was a co-commentator for the FEI World Equestrian Games for FEI TV, commentating for the Grand Prix and Grand Prix Speciale. In 2021, Karen became an International FEI 2* Judge. In 2022 Karen became an International FEI Young Horse Judge, in 2023 an International FEI 3* Para Equestrian Judge, and in 2024 an International FEI 3* Dressage Judge. www.kpdressage.com

LILLY KASSELMANN ECHANTS WELLINGTON

GENERATION ALPHA - LILLY

Photography by Nick Garcia
Styling by Rebeca Herrero
Lilly wears a top by Anne Fontaine on Worth Avenue
Earrings by Patricia Robalino

Lilly is of the Generation Alpha known for independence. The youngest Kasselmann of Hof Kasselmann, a synonym for elitelevel equestrian sport. Ullrich and Bianca Kasselmann, with their son Francois, have been training horses to the highest level for more than 30 years and established the Hof Kasselmann name as a world renowned brand. They are famously known the world over as the centre of expertise, heart and meeting place of international dressage in Hagen, Germany. The eldest granddaughter Emma at 13, loves show jumping ponies and horses like Francois, her father; her sister, Dressage.

When I met the charming sisters Emma, and 11 year old Lilly the summer of 2023 at their training centre and home, it made me wonder. Emma is successful in jumping ponies then, now competing horses. Her sister, Lilly loves dressage. Their mother Dianna, met their father Francois when they were young and

jumping horses. That summer I watched Lilly compete at a local show near Hagen. She was very serious, focused and impeccably dressed as she trotted down centre line in her children’s dressage class. Each scored movement seemed on point, all the way to the final halt and salute. She did not win that day, but very close. I tried to say hello, but best to give her space as she walked her pony to their trailer. Lilly immediately grabbed a bucket of water for her pony, kindly petting him with a hug.

Two years later, this season she is showing at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival, I watched Lilly again, scoring the highest in the mid 70s percentile at the FEI CDI for children level classes. I find it so intriguing that the sisters both love horses like her family yet one does Dressage and the other Jumping. They are a perfect pair for future partnership for the family business. I stopped to study how that could be. According to psychology theories,

“ TO LIVE IS TO DANCE... TO DANCE IS TO LIVE ”, SAYS CHARLIE BROWN.
WPB
Lilly wears feathers by Ingenue on

and article “Siblings Share Genes, But Rarely Personalities,” by Alix Spiegel I read. “And when organisms compete," says a Darwin scholar Frank Sulloway, "there tends to be a phenomenon that Darwin long ago identified in the origins of species called the principle of divergence. The role of divergence is basically to minimize competition so it's not direct. And that leads to specialization in different niches.”

Then you have the Environment. "Children grow up in different families because most siblings differ in age, and so the timing with which you go through your family's [major events] is different.” Finally, there is Exaggeration described in this article, whereby ‘the final theory is the comparison theory, which holds that families are essentially comparison machines that greatly exaggerate even minor differences between siblings. One may be considered an extrovert, and once the introvert label is assigned even if in an absolute sense it's not really true it influences the choices that the child makes.” All of this can be hogwash or nonsense, maybe it is just God’s choice of selecting our destiny But what I see is two girls that are very supportive of each other and protective. It is awe inspiring.

Lilly is having great success on her pony, Charly Brown, with six wins in six starts here in Wellington. It’s not just a one pony show for her, last week she won on another pony named Vodka Soda also in the high 70’s percentile. Lilly has a huge heart and while she can be sweet and fun when not competing, she is not a pushover. As the younger sister, she will go head-to-head with anyone. Like an alpha mare, she holds her own to maintain her dominance. And usually with a roll of the eye, she need not speak up loudly or make a scene, she only has to stand tall and look you in the eye.

Athena LEKKAS

Horse: Picobella

de Pot

Aka Bella (a black mare by I’m Special de Muze)

Photography by Stephen Almeida

“Athena has discovered an entirely new power within herself”

Girl power has been a theme in Athena Lekkas’ life since her birth. As her parents’ only child, she is just as comfortable driving a F350 as she is riding a horse over 1.20M+ fences, and when she partnered with her current competition mount, Picobella de Pot (I’m Special de Muze x Einhorn), the girl power increased exponentially. This opinionated mare, known affectionately as the 'spicy hippo’ or just Bella around the barn, definitely lives up to her sire’s name: she knows she’s special and she makes sure her rider knows how to treat her as a partner, and requires an equal amount of talent and discernment in return.

Athena’s previous horse, a beautiful and sweet gelding named Karthago di Cambra, made sure to cover for Athena as she moved up the ranks to 1.20M. People love horses like him (and the Lekkas’s were in love with him) and they are a huge asset to give riders the confidence to grow, but to really learn to ride equestrians must seek out horses that truly challenge them to step up and actually RIDE. When Bella became Athena’s partner, there were numerous hurdles to jump (literally and figuratively) to get them into the show

ring, and huge adjustments for Athena’s riding and development. Bella’s combination of sensitivity and power, combined with a personality that can only be described as a mix between a mare and stallion, makes her a tricky ride that must be based on trust.

As they work on perfecting their partnership, Athena has discovered an entirely new power within herself, unlocked by Bella’s trust and scope over fences. With lots to say about Athena’s riding, and under the tutelage of Antonio Martinez of AMG Equestrian, Bella is constantly teaching this determined 18-year-old to push herself to be better both in the saddle and on the ground. With their sights set on the U25 divisions in the next few years, Athena and Bella have been making strides and embracing their feminine energy driven presence in the show ring this winter and spring.

UNDEFINING THE LINES Between Different Disciplines of Horse Sport

On one side of the Village known as Wellington, Florida is recognized as the Winter Equestrian Capital of the World, on the south side of Pierson, west of South Shore Blvd. The history dates from the 1950s of Investor Mr. Wellington of NY who purchased several tracts of land. Upon his death, his family sold off pieces eventually to the Gould Corporation. William Yilvisaker, the Chairman of Gould, was an avid polo player. It was his contribution that produced the Palm Beach Polo and Country Club. The next step in the evolution of Wellington from the mid 80’s was probably its most important for the future. In November 1995, a determined group of Wellington residents succeeded in a referendum to establish Wellington as an independent municipality. Wellington was officially born on December 31, 1995.

On the other side of Pierson and east of South Shore Blvd, the dressage world blossomed moving from Loxahatchee area, today known as Adequan Global Dressage Festival. It’s all so complicated with mergers and acquisitions, but today Wellington International is home to the prestigious Winter Equestrian Festival, Equestrian Sport Productions and organizer of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival. They are running the world's longest running horse sport competitions January through March.

As Equestrian Editor of Art Bodega, I am proud to say I have been coming to Wellington since the late 1990’s for Dressage. In 2014 over ten years of commuting from Atlanta, my then six year old daughter Kat came each season competing in the Pony Hunters, then Junior Hunters and equitation. In the past five years, she started on the “dressage” side with the FEI Young Riders, and PSG/I-1.

Being on both sides, it is fun to blend people together. I do just that with Art Bodega, bringing competitors, judges, and trainers to show case in this issue, the Kasselmann Family of Germany, whose two young daughters compete one in Jumpers, the other in Dressage. The Darlings of Wellington Dressage, Diamanté Farms who sponsor Global Dressage, top Hunter/Jumper Torano Family, and Olympic Dressage Judge Janet Foy, among other interesting equestrians. Whether you’re an avid equestrian or simply appreciate the artistry of this noble pursuit, the 2025 Equestrian Issue promises to provide a captivating journey into a world where art and passion meet combining both sides of Hunter/Jumpers and Dressage. Enjoy the community of great people we bring to you.

THE DARLINGS OF WELLINGTON DRESSAGE

Devon wears a dress by Ingenue located in West Palm Beach

oOver twenty years ago, a young girl and her Olympic medalist trainer Atlantan Michelle Gibson, came walking into my barn just outside Atlanta. I remember her character to be kind and sweet, and she could look you in the eye, without a timid shy look down. It was hard to not like her or her mother, who was and is bubbly and friendly. It made me happy since, they bought a young horse learning the FEI from me. I thought I had made new horsey friends in the area. But Devon’s sights were much higher than you would suspect.

Meet Devon: The petite girl with a strong and determined look in her eye is Devon Kane. She is kind and soft with her horses which says a lot of a person as I watched her interact with them. Growing up in Texas, it wouldn’t be too hard to find horses to learn how to ride. She did so with her mother Terry. Devon loved the horses so much, that Terry supported her giving the best learning environment that Terry did not have growing up. Next thing you know, her family purchased a stable to transition it to a top dressage sport horse training farm in Wellington, Fl. Terry and her husband Richard Kane opened Diamanté Farm in 2002 in the middle of the Winter Equestrian Capital of the World, just over 60 miles due west of Palm Beach. Then 16 year old Devon competed in Dressage from the ground up as a Junior, as a Young Rider, a Brentina Cup competitor, or as Under 25 Grand Prix to today’s competitive International Grand Prix star that travels around the world representing the USA. With the support of her family back then to train with the best, Devon knew her life would be with top competition horses as a professional to ride for her country and to train students. Her experiences include

“Love & Marriage, Love & Marriage, go together like a horse and carriage. This I tell you, brother, you can’t have one without the other.”
-FRANK SINATRA

Dtraining in Germany over ten years ago with Team Gold Olympian Humbertus Schmidt. She continues to do business with him today. He is considered one of the best Olympians. She took back her new skills to train young horses her mom set up Diamanté for, as a serious top training farm, and skills to train her clientele. Little did she know then her liking of Germany and the people there would become part of her champion life destiny.

Meet Kevin: Unlike Devon, Kevin ran into his mom’s barn because he got tired of babysitting his newborn brother in his home of Lübeck, about an hour northeast of Hamburg, Germany. He thought it would be a good idea to help his mom, with her couple of horses, and mainly play with the pony down the street where she kept them. He soon learned that the neighborhood girls came to ride and always lingering around the ponies. As an ok athlete of futbol and other sports, he decided it would be a good idea for his mom to teach him to ride. It turns out, Kevin had a natural feel and enjoyed learning more. He eventually started showing and realized he was really good at equestrian sport, and felt very proud to learn more. Kevin aligned himself with a schoolmaster, and got special permission to study under him full time at15 years old then go to traditional school. “After three years, you get something like your bachelor’s degree—it’s called your Bereiters, your professional rider certificate,” Kevin said. “I passed the Bereiters exam at 18, which made me the youngest professional rider ever in German history, because it’s just not possible without that special permission to start early.”

By then he was commuting to the United States meeting other trainers and clients to work with and teach. Kevin was smart and returned to Germany in 2012 to take a further exam Pferdewirtschaftsmeister, “the master’s degree” of horses management and care, along with written and performance tests in various disciplines. And once again, he was the youngest to pass in German History. Eventually he met the Kane Family in Wellington, Florida. Devon, a Grand Prix competitor had a difficult horse, that Kevin was able to manage and train for her. As they say the rest is history. The two became friends and training partners first as they managed Diamanté Farm. Kevin started training and working with a stallion in 2020 doing the small tour. By 2021 he rode on the Nations Cup with the German Team in Wellington, and won. The day before he took his American citizenship test and past.

By 2022, Diamanté purchased more acreage in Little Ranches to expand. Kevin kept training one of the difficult horses, but they couldn’t sell him. He ended up competing the horse himself, riding the Grand Prix. They qualified for the Nations Cups in

Europe and were honored to fly first to Rotterdam representing USA. They were the highest-placing American team. Next they went on their first European tour, including Germany, Holland, France and Switzerland—where Kevin proposed to Devon on Lake Geneva. This season Kevin qualified for this year’s World Cup Championship overseas representing the USA. And not to be outshined, Devon, with her own talents is placing in the top three for FEI CDI3* Grand Prix. And both I am sure, will be campaigning for LA as I would love to see them at the Olympics!

“Its hard in our world to find somebody that understands the crazy world we live in.She and I live the same life. We spend all day together at the barn doing what we love and I guess that makes us happy. I love how happy we both are together. I love Devon!” says Kevin.

DR. PAULO GAVIAÕ GONZAGA’S DREAM & PASSION LIVES ON INTERAGRO LUSITANOS: BRAZILIAN BRED BEAUTIES

TTiago Ernesto DRESSAGE RIDER

Photography by Nick Garcia

Driving down the dusty backroad of Loxahatchee Groves, slightly north of Wellington, Fl, you almost miss the driveway to the Horse Farm of the famous Interagro Lusitanos of Brazil. I didn’t know what to expect, then past the typical Florida stucco ranch house, a big covered arena, and a typical working barn. The soft gorgeous eyes of several astonishing horses all stick their heads out for a pet, walking down the aisle. The working groom pointed me in the direction to a small lake where the photographer was already shooting the pristinely immaculate white horse as the yellowish golden sun just started to set.

With more than 300 horses exported from their 1,300 acre stud and training center in Itapira, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Interagro, the name of the breeder, has spent over 4 decades breeding a modern Lusitano. An athletic, easy to ride, pleasure to train horse with the ability to give the warmbloods a run for their money in the FEI disciplines. The stunning horses are fairy tale gorgeous with lustrous, abundant manes and tails, glittering coats in every color, and a regal stance the baroque breeds are known for. Interagro imported their breeding stallions to Wellington, Fl over a decade ago to continue to breed and to sale young and trained horses to the American Equestrians in love with them.

Interagro’s success stems from its breeding program. With an amazing selection of stallions and mares from elite, hard to find bloodlines, Interagro carefully evaluates and pairs each coupling to produce progressively

more talented, healthy horses with equally amazing temperaments. Their shed rows full of gorgeous, fun to ride FEI prospects safe for competent amateurs is a testament to their skill. And their breeding stallions aren’t only required to be beautiful, but athletic, and even tempered. While dressage seems to be the Lusitano’s strong suit, they’re equally sought after for driving and jumping, as well as working equitation.

With over 40 years experience breeding, training, and exporting Lusitanos, Interagro’s mission is to preserve the exceptional bloodlines and qualities of the breed while showcasing their talent, beauty, and intelligence, especially in the FEI and sport horse disciplines. Established in 1975 by Dr. Paulo Gaviaõ Gonzaga in the rolling tropical jungles outside of Sao Paulo, Interagro’s initial vision was to preserve and restore the original Lusitano bloodlines and lineages, many of which were in danger of extinction following the Portuguese Revolution of 1974.

The landscape of the Loxahatchee farm, coupled with the beautiful wife Patricia of Tiago Ernesto, the dressage Grand Prix rider and trainer of the farm, set us all back in time. The couple along with their sweet daughter and son, showcased four of their Lusitanos. Each horse bred and trained in the classical method toward Grand Prix is named with the Breeder name at the end. Here we see Luca Interago, a beautiful bay with white covered nose as if dipped in milk, Omar Interagro with a more slender style head and refined athletic

body. The stunning Hector Interagro that God gave the breeder Dr. Gonzaga’s beloved Brazil country marking on his forehead and finally Quercy Interagro a truly impeccable model of the classical baroque Lusitano. These kind horses nudging you for a hug, and enjoying the children and laughter around, will forever stay in my mind, sadly turning onto the busy Southern Blvd with traffic of cars and horse trailers driving by. For a moment, the story and history of Dr. Paulo Gaviaõ Gonzaga passion to preserve the breed took up the afternoon in a rural farm land which I might imagine the Brazilian hills that these horses lineage grew up running through the open free land.

A full list of the bloodlines and influential horses that have given rise to the modern Interagro Lusitano, as well as more info on all of the farm’s horses, can be found on their website: www.lusitano-interagro.com. Through meticulous breeding, exceptional care, and world-class training, the Interagro Lusitanos of today continue that legacy as they compete across four continent.

“With over 40 years of experience breeding, training and exporting Lusitanos, Interagro’s mission is to preserve the exceptional bloodline.”

MICAH Deligdish

NEARLY ISRAELI OLYMPIAN… NEVER GIVE UP!

Micah's grandparents were Holocaust survivors from Poland and Austria. She learned that life is precious, and you get the best what you make out of it! With a husband and son after her quest for the Olympics in 2020, her life has settled to what is truly the most special she could have imagined.

I met Micah Deligdish in 2019 in Wellington, Florida to sponsor her 2020 Olympic dream. It was an exciting time. No one expected the world would change in a matter of moments with covid and the politics of the world many months later. Only then, that year, to support a young Grand Prix Dressage Rider who was declared in the State of Israel, making her the only woman then represented on the Israeli Dressage Team, was historical on its own. Micah is a dual citizen of Israel and The United States. She went on to

compete in the FEI European Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands. In 2020, she placed 6th in CDI 5* Freestyle and a member of another historical first Israeli Dressage Team to participate in a CDIO Nations Cup, placing 4th.

Born in Brevard County, Fl, horses began at a young age for little Micah. She was awe struck visiting Wellington Equestrian Festival (WEF) and hoped to have the chance to ride in the grand prix stadium as she began to take essons. After graduating from American University in Washington DC earning a degree in broadcast journalism, and working in corporate America at the Nation’s Capital, horses drew hard for her return. So in 2014 at 23 years old, Micah started her dressage training, lesson and sales business. It was very hard, but in the end, has been extremely rewarding.

Micah's Self Mantra: aim high and set unattainable goals. Through trying to accomplish what seems to benefit an unattainable goal, you will achieve many other goals and experience new opportunities that you didn’t even know existed. She told me in our recent interview at her family farm in a gated community a couple of miles south of

WEF. Now with her husband and young son, life couldn't be better.

Tell me how you met your husband who shares your love for horses… "Shahmir and I met in 2017 at a fundraiser for the Vinceremos Riding School. He grew up in Wellington playing polo. I grew up in a sleepy beach town in central Florida. He has always had a love and passion for all things horsepower, cars, airplanes, boats, and horses. While we come from very different backgrounds, our love for the horses brought us together."

How do you balance your family life and your international career…

"I have been traveling overseas to ride and compete since 2019. My son did his

first trip to Germany as a one year old. He has gone back-and-forth with me a few times over the years. Having a child definitely shifted my priorities and perspectives. He helped me learn how to draw boundaries and prioritize my happiness. Being there for my son and prioritizing my family has become very important to me. It was definitely an adjustment from being able to always give 100% of myself to the horses,100% of the time. I learned how important it is to create a strong support system around me.”

It’s 2025, what are you doing now… I have two international Grand Prix horses that I am still campaigning, Santos and Handsome C. I spend most of my days teaching and have a large virtual base of successful young professionals, I teach around the country. I have wonderful clients in Wellington. I really enjoy the horses and people I get to spend my time with. Shahmir owns and runs Seatec Outfitters, a highperformance, fishing and boating apparel line. We are two entrepreneur parents raising our son in the lifestyle of horses we chose and found each other. Considering all that is going on in the world, we are very lucky, happy and grateful each day.

The TORANO FAMILY

If you live in Wellington, Fl; or compete in the Hunter/Jumper circuit, likely you have heard of Jimmy Torano. I don’t even know where to begin to describe this bigger than life man. So let’s start with maybe what few outside the bubble, do not know. There is no right or wrong for art collecting except if maybe you do it for investment. Art has so much more to do with personal taste. I love photography mainly due to all the artists taking the shots with a different perception of what they see through the lens. In the horse world, one can become very technical to get the right jump angle, the right hind leg crossover, get the rider’s eyes open, and/or the horse’s ears up and so on. I was lucky enough to be given a portfolio of photos, so I could flip through a thousand looking for the right photo. In the magazine world, I hear them say “the money shot”. And then, there it was….Natalia Torano!

Why you ask is it so special. Well for one, I couldn’t stop staring at it obsessing. Because this teenager is the daughter of Jimmy & Danielle, and the eldest sibling along side of her brother JJ. With all her famous equine family members, she is standing in the shot “on pointe”, next to a beautiful horse. It is so simple, and elegant that at first you do not see the ballet slippers she is wearing, nor that she is “on pointe”. This piece of art taken by Evelyn Equine Photography, and all the family shots here, just deserved to be on the cover of Art Bodega, and show cased in the Wellington Equestrian Circuit 2025. Natalia is a senior in high school now, but my daughter Kat and I met her nearly a decade ago. A close friend of her parents Rodrigo Pessoa told us we should meet Jimmy Torano to help us with one of

Kat’s horses. The stage was set and Jimmy not only trained the horse but after five years, made Kat a multi-national champion with multiple junior hunter ponies and horses, before she moved on to Dressage and Jumpers in Germany.

SHOW ME A GOOD LOSER, AND

I’LL

SHOW YOU A LOSER.”

-VINCE LOMBARDI

Natalia - Kat says, “She went in a different direction than the rest of her family. Natalia is a ballerina.”

While her family was traveling every spring and summer before settling back home for horse circuit season, sometimes we would see her at the shows, and many times not. At Lake Placid during the fourth of July that the Torano Family seemed to be most years, Natalia would laugh and giggle playing with the horse kids. She always seemed to have an eye on her little brother, as a typical older sister would do to protect him. Now looking at this shot years later, I asked Danielle please find out what it’s like for her growing up with the famous horse family. As if it was an odd question, she simply responded. “Living in a famous horse, family is honestly pretty normal for me. It’s just the way I’ve grown up and I don’t see my life differently than anyone else’s.” Natalia graduates this year and will be attending Florida Atlantic University.

Jimmy - Kat says, “Jimmy is the definition of a winner. He doesn’t do things conservatively. He is known to “go big or go home”, and he trains that way!” Kat continues, “I don’t think I can say this, but he says, “show me a good loser, and I’ll show you a loser.”

Jimmy has been on the Grand Prix Show Jumping tour for more than 15 years, having ridden in his first Grand Prix during the Winter Equestrian Festival in 1989. In 2000, he won the Puissance at the WIHS on Lancier 4. He has been to numerous World Cup Finals, including the 2000 World Cup Final in Las Vegas. In 1999, Jimmy was the leading Jumper rider at the National Horse Show in Madison Square Garden. With over 100 top placings to his credit, Jimmy has led the victory gallop in numerous places across the country and competed internationally. He is known to be very outspoken to say it lightly, is a leader in his industry on multiple equestrian boards, is a judge, a trainer, a commentator, father and husband to Danielle, his wife from their home area of south Florida.

Danielle - Kat says, “she’s really the boss, the power woman with a sweet and calm demeanor demure.”

Danielle rode the famed Classic Importer to numerous championships and awards. Classic Importer was the 1998 Chronicle of the Horse - Show Horse of the Year. Classic Importer was also the USEF Hunter of the Year in 1998 and in 2001. Danielle rode her jumper Lojana to 2001 USEF Jumper of the Year and named AGA rookie of the year. In 2008, Danielle was a member of the winning $75,000 FEI Nation's Cup team in Wellington aboard Marlo, and represented the United States in the 2008 World Cup Finals in Goteborg, Sweden and the 2009 World Cup Finals in Las Vegas on Vancouver D’Auvray.

JJ - Kat says, “he’s a humble ambitious young rider with an abnormal talent, winning 1.50m Grand Prix’s at 14yo, and the youngest ever to win Dover Hunter Seat Medal Finals, an equitation finals championship in Harrisburg, PA. He goes to regular school, a little bit shy and reserved. I feel proud when I see them (the family), especially when I watch JJ show. I remember when he was 9 years old showing in the small ponies again at Harrisburg, as Grand Champion. It’s fun to see him excel and watch his future unfold.”

JJ had a break out 2024 winning four major national championships, his first National Grand Prix, Small Junior Hunter Champion Horse of the Year title aboard Moonlight, Reserve Champion Horse of the Year in the Large Junior division, Reserve champion Horse of the Year in the 1.45m Junior Jumpers and Reserve Grand Hunter Champion. He wrapped up the indoor season winning the $25,000 Jr/Am Grand Prix at the National Horse Show and named Champion of the Small Junior Hunter Division. He ended his year with a victory at the South Florida Medal Finals, an accomplishment unique to his family, as only JJ, his mom and his dad have ever won it as Juniors.

Natalia finished her interview with me after learning she wants to study Special Education in college… “What are your goals/dreams”? I say. And Natalia’s modest reply, “My dreams are to one day be able to teach people with special needs how to dance!” A big smile comes across my face each time I think of this family. Each one has excelled at the highest level, and like my daughter, I feel so so proud! I say with a wink, “Jimmy, did you ever look up the meaning of “On Pointe” that your daughter performs, a ballet term??” …. To be Perfect!

MIA ROWE There's a new

IN TOWN IT! Girl

Mia Rowe is one of these women that captivate you with her beauty. Her long brunette hair is carefully groomed, and her stunning features resemble one of the beauties from Hollywood we so much follow and adore; her taste is always impeccable. She loves fashion, is active in the community with several charities year-round, and loves to be photographed alongside her husband, the influential plastic surgeon, Dr. Norman Rowe. His practice has grown extensively in the last few years, from The Hamptons to Palm Beach.

Dr Norman and his wife Mia Rowe donate year-round to several non-profits, attend Galas in Manhattan and Palm Beach, and Mrs. Rowe just sponsored the wellknown Old Bags Luncheon in Palm Beach, where she generously donated a stunning Hermes Kelly 35

Tote as the presenting tote sponsor. The event was a glamorous affair where Rowe wore her beautiful gems in an elegant pink suit. As we met her at the Fivestory location in Palm Beach, you can sense her determination to become a fixture of society on the Island of Palm Beach. Needless to say, she is the IT!

Girl of the moment, representing a new generation of young women taking over the charities and social affairs we love to embrace in Art Bodega! Here is a Q&A with the glamour mother of three.

Why are you so active in philanthropy?

I am a deeply spiritual person and believe we are all on this earth for some reason, we just have to find that reason. One thing we must do is help each other; we have to pay it forward. I’ve always been active in some form or another with charitable causes. Each year, I try to do more and more.

You love fashion. What are the fashion trends now?

Current fashion trends include loose-fitting clothes, as well as sheer dresses, tops, and skirts. Colors that blend well seemed to be very popular this past Winter season, and I’m glad to see vibrant colors coming back for the Spring.

How do you compare Palm Beach to New York City?

Having grown up and lived in New York City and Palm Beach for many years, I think I have a unique perspective on the two cities. I find Palm Beach much more relaxing and less pressure-packed than New York City.

I’m unsure if this is a function of the wonderful weather or the different types of lifestyle in Palm Beach. However, regardless of where I am, I try to surround myself with people who are comfortable in their skin and have nothing to prove.

Favorite fashion designers?

Givenchy!! Having just returned from Paris Fashion Week, I am very excited about Sarah Burton’s new Summer line.

Beauty regime?

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, especially when it comes to looking your best. My daily regimen includes wearing sunblock always and using Retin-A. I also get micro-needling treatments and botox once every three months along with laser resurfacing on my face and chest twice a year.

What advice do you give to young women who want to start a family and become philanthropic?

They both can be done. There are enough hours

in the day for everything; one just has to be super organized. You just have to approach the needs of your family and your philanthropic passions like a CEO would for a business.

What do you love about Palm Beach?

The weather is always great in Palm Beach during season. That is amazing for my mental health (it’s hard not to be happy sitting outside of Sant Ambroeus on a beautiful day). Also, everyone in Palm Beach is gregarious and friendly. I’ve never met anyone in Palm Beach I wouldn’t invite to my house for dinner.

Where do you like to travel? Favorite cities, restaurants, stores?

I love Paris in the Spring during fashion week, it is alive and vibrant. While there, George Cinq is my home away from home, and Le Cinq is a must for dinner. I love L’Avenue for a quick bite and a latte. In the early summer, there is no place like St. Tropez! It must be experienced. La Reserve is an island oasis. Senequier and La Bagatelle for lunch and dancing with Salamana and L’Reserve Opera for dinner.

Black dress designed by Michael dePaulo

How do you balance motherhood with your lifestyle?

People don’t realize that being a mother is a full-time job, often not recognized as such. With that in mind, a working mother, my definition, has two full-time jobs. To maintain my sanity and balance, I have to take time for myself occasionally. Once or twice a week, I will have a “me day”. This includes hair and nail essentials, a massage, and a trip to Worth Avenue.

What do you pack when you travel?

I actually travel light. I take what I need for a couple of days and an empty suitcase, which I fill up for my return trip. I take minimum makeup with me as I usually get my hair and makeup done by “my guy” in each city I go to.

What makes your relationship with Dr. Rowe so good?

The only way a marriage, especially to your business partner, can successfully succeed is if there is mutual respect. Both of us know our roles and our strengths. We don’t step out of our lane, and most importantly, we NEVER GO TO BED ANGRY!

Gives us the new trends we can find at Dr Rowe’s office.

Being a full-service plastic surgery office, Rowe Plastic Surgery offers head-to-toe treatments. Laser resurfacing, both deep and superficial, is very popular in Palm Beach, especially given the amount of sun damage that many of us get. The new Botox, which now can last twice as long as the old Botox is also very popular. Micro needling with platelet rich plasma (PRP) is also a favorite because it has almost no downtime with excellent results.

DOUG EVANS On

Talks Palm Beach and more! "We are a community"

Palm Beach has changed tremendously in the last few years, but one thing is relevant, everyone wants to be in Palm Beach. While enduring the changes through the decades, one individual from Palm Beach stands out, and that's Doug Evans. The President and CEO of the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce is as loyal to the beauty of the town as generations of wealthy and truly unique individuals have been for decades. Evans is a symbol of the sophistication of its residents.

Tell us about yourself.

I moved to Palm Beach in the 1980's. I got here when the old families were still on the island. I was initially a classical opera singer. I knew at some point I was not that good at it, making me transition into the Non-profit Arts & Administration sector. For many years, I ran the most significant performance arts center in Connecticut, similar to the Kravis Center in Palm Beach or the Broward Center but bigger, where I raised a lot of money at that time, nearly 100 million dollars. It was busy 33 nights a year, with productions and performances. It's always been one of the number-one touring markets for Broadway shows in the United States. While doing that, I produced or presented over 100 Broadway plays or musicals in my life. At that time, it was so artistic. I loved it, but eventually, it became so expensive to produce. It was all about fundraising, fundraising, and investing, so when you see a five-person play on Broadway, you will see 40 people who are producers of the show. It costs a lot, so I spent most of my life just deciding to work in the non-profit sector.

That's how I landed working for several nonprofit organizations in South Florida. Two and half years ago, I joined the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce, which, for me, is perfect because it is a non-profit organization that is integral to this town's success—keeping the quality of life the way they want it to be but also working with folks that own their own business and make them successful. When you combine my love for this town with helping others succeed, all the stars align perfectly with me.

How is Palm Beach unique in the world?

This town is unique! You can look at other places in the country like La Jolla, or Martha's Vineyard. We are not that. Even the Hamptons is a string of small towns. We are an island town barrier and island community that's very distinct in itself. And I love everything about this town. The people, the businesses, the artists, the fashion people, because as you know, from being as long as you had, everybody here knows each other. You see people you know daily, and they treat you as a friend and neighbor, and that's one thing that Palm Beach has that other places I just talk about.

The series Palm Royale captured the world's attention.  Is this true?

I feel that we have colorful people who are unique and interesting. Where else would you find a pet pig on the sidewalk of one of the main high-end retail store streets in the world or a pet costume parade? Where else would you have a Christmas Tree built out of surfboards? When we watched the series, it is evident to us that it was never filmed here, but the general public thinks it was. It is a profile publicity action; they think it is formed by these unique curiosities, which is true. Here, servers have recognized you for years; they know you by name….. I believe that it will continue ad infinitum. Some people move to Palm Beach because they want to call this home, others to reinvent themselves.

They want to start their lives over and become the protagonists of our community, which brings color, content, and context to the community.

We have seen an influx of 41 billion dollars in Palm Beach and Wellington.  How has this affected our community?

Absolutely, 2 years ago, it was 33 billion, it must be 40-50 billion by

now….the primary central of West Palm Beach and Palm Beach Island is now considered one area. What happened was that people who sold the old houses moved to these new gorgeous condos. There was expansion in Wellington due to the land, the horses, the Equestrian community, that Nacho Figueras calls home. That number is factual. It has created a huge shift in how we live here.

How do you foresee the growth in the luxury market?  Is there enough space?

Businesses come and go; there is a 90% failing ratio in the restaurant business. The smart way to go is to engage. Stores come and go, but there are great art galleries because of how they engage with the customer. Businesses become a part of the community. Just because you walk into the store, you cannot expect to rely on sales. Most of the galleries and stores support the charities. Some of them donate art as well, actively helping the community. For Charities big and small, the priority is to make us support them, like Public Television or Public Radio. You have to support the community!

This town is so special it has a unique radio station.  Legends Radio.  Isn't it great?

Of course, they are friends of mine; they are from Connecticut - Sally and Dick Robertson –

Legends….as you know, radio is the theatre of the mind. You can't see it but can create an illusion by listening to it. It's elegant, it's entertaining. Imagine hearing a band playing at a private clubwhile listening to Legends, it is the theatre of the mind. I'm loyal to them. They are my friends. It's extraordinary; Palm Beach is the epicenter of the geo-political universe right now. Period. All these elements are part of that fabric.

What do you foresee with all the new developments?

Related Group is spearheading many of the projects. We have a firm community for decades to come. The regional voters decided on a 100 million bond to create affordable housing; the leadership is looking for solutions. Steve Ross has said this will be the next Silicon Valley as well. We are a community of homes and retailers, but people are living here. The town is amazing; all these towers house people in their 20s' 30s, 30's, and 40's. It's packed with so many young people. You see the long lines if you go to the Green Market to get nice smoothies. These are all healthy signs that the region will withstand anything. It's not like Seattle or California, where it is so expensive here we have no state income tax; it's tax friendly. Traffic is the biggest issue. 17,000 vehicles come onto the island. It's the landscapers, the service industry – but we are addressing this. Mayor Danielle Moore is very active, they are doing studies to alleviate the issues.

If you could choose anyone to keep you company at a piano bar, who would you choose?

It fills you with nostalgia for some of the people who lived here and have passed away. You remember the Kennedy Family, Babe Paley, CZ Guest. I would certainly have a Vodka martini with some of these women. They were the ones that were the epitome of Palm Beach. I would sit at the bar in the Breakers or the Colony seat and talk about what is happening in this town. If you think about it, only in Palm Beach would you be dining while the rooftop would open for you to see the stars, with the Palm Trees on view.

It would undoubtedly be Babe Paley.

Are Worth Avenue and Rodeo Drive unique in the world? How will you preserve Worth Avenue, the great symbol of Palm Beach?

We have very strict codes and zoning codes regarding the façade and landscaping. We created a real environment; it's a quality town. There is a sense of decorum; it's not snobbish, and if you don't want to embrace it, then you don't have to stay. You can always be embraced. It's a loving town. It's whether you embrace us or not.

Beth Fishel said, “I wouldn’t be where I am today without my mother and what she taught me. She always said, reach for the stars.” Fishel’s mom is 93 years old and is constantly in her life. Her father, who passed away, is also dearly missed by the beautiful Fishel. “He would tell me that when you enjoy the work, it’s fun and games. I am also very blessed because of my husband. I wouldn’t have had all these opportunities if I didn’t have him in my life. He is brilliant, kind and very funny! I’m also a proud mother of a son, who has made me a better person. He is very bright and has a heart of gold.”

The gifted Fishel is constantly on the go. She does business and participates in many philanthropic causes. Her home is spectacular, and she continually hosts and partakes in many events, all for the cherished causes we admire and commit to on the Island of Palm Beach. To give is something all Palm Beach residents love to engage with. Fishel has been nominated for the AHA Woman of Impact in 2022; she is part of the Palm Beach County Historical Society, is chairing the Derby Event, has been a Kravitz Founder’s Club member since 2022, and is also a Palm Beach Preservation Society member since 2022. The businesswoman is also part of the Committee for the Palm Beach County Old Bags Luncheon and a member of the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County Women’s Philanthropy and many other charities.

As she posed for the magazine under the gaze of Matt Yeandle (aka Beauty by Matt), the Texas beauty mentions her past as a TV Commercial pageant participant and judge. “I trained girls for Miss Teen San Antonio USA and TEXAS USA. Add to her resume that she is the director of marketing for “Solicur” and the president and founder of “Palm Beach Queen of Hearts, a subsidiary of “Beachboyz Development LLC.” Because Fishel is a high achiever who understands very well how to connect the dots in a special place like Palm Beach, we commend her accolades on an island full of wonder and possibilities.

“I OWE IT ALL TO MY FAMILY.”

Carol Roth,

the 103-year-old matriarch, is a Tik Tok sensation. The mother of skincare mogul Peter Thomas Roth keeps delighting fans with her glamorous style, perfect skin and humorous approach.

Location: Private residence in Bal Harbour

The Sparkle in her eyes, her beautiful smile, her caring and warm hands, and the love of a son— that's how I would describe the relationship between Peter Thomas Roth and his 103-yearold mother, Carol. A woman whose strength blossomed through the years and who now has become an icon of beauty, knowledge, elegant age, and sassiness.

Carol is not your regular woman. She grew up in Hungary, a survivor of the Holocaust. She migrated to New York City and became a hat and hand model in the garment district. She met Peter Thomas Roth's father, and the rest is history.

The marriage flourished during New York's prime era, where the socially active parents frequently hosted numerous events, including parties and cocktail gatherings with movie stars. They successfully raised a loving and resilient family in the vibrant city that never sleeps. Ritzy, high-heeled women would wear furs and hold cigarettes while sipping champagne, and the handsome partners would smoke cigars, laughing their way out all through the evening

and discussing the major events or current affairs in the world.

Carol has that joie the vibre that impresses even the shyest people; her hair is always coiffed, her apartment beautiful and spotless, overlooking the ocean that is as blue as the color of a Paraiba, while on occasions she wears her yellow canary diamond. She is surrounded by her lovely niece, Nancy, Peter and Nancy’s daughters, also by her caretaker.

The James Bond-themed song "Diamonds are Forever" is certainly what you think of when you imagine Carol inside her Bal Harbour condominium overlooking the ocean while looking at her glamorous dresses and stunning jewelry.

She remembers every story from those golden days…. "That's my engagement ring," said Carol while being styled for a four-hour photoshoot at her apartment in Bal Harbour. She is certainly showing with pride her beautiful jewelry in her hands, which, by the way, look amazingly young.

Her skin is so well kept, soft, and shiny, like the products she usually uses from the company name born in the family, Peter Thomas Roth.

Like Peter, her style is regal and easy. She doesn't demand attention; she commands it. Her softness, but great humor, enchants you. Her strong family bond with nieces, nephews, and grandsons Ryan and Brendan, who adore her and pamper her, makes her the strong matriarch she has always been.

That's what makes Carol extra unique. She has become a viral sensation on TikTok, thanks to the playful videos Ryan creates with his grandmother. They are funny and genuine, and people just go crazy for them. This is, in a way, why the company has grown in the viral era. The stories that are genuine and humorous and showcase Carol's humor are what have positioned the company as one of the top when it comes to real lovely stories we love to watch.

Having millions of followers at the age of 103 is one of those unique stories that makes you wonder if life is well lived when you love your family, enjoy the social scene, and have a great attitude, even in the face of challenges.

FROMMIAMIWITHLOVE, CAMILAGUIRIBITEYAND HERMOTHER,A.K.A THE MAMILOVER,ARETHE LATESTVIRALSENSATION

Being a good-looking woman like Camila Guiribitey is a given. Her mom,Taty Guiribitey, a.k.a the Mamilover on social media, is also a very beautiful woman of Cuban heritage who lives in Miami. The combination of the mother-daughter duo makes you wonder if this is the perfect family. Indeed, it is!

You enter the home of the Guiribiteys inTahiti Beach, and you know you have arrived in the most exquisite area of Miami. The house is white, spacious, and elegant, filled with beautiful Cuban art by the artist Fabelo. The furniture's blue tones and the sun's golden rays enter the room, all built surrounded by tempered glass. The people assisting the perpetually busy family are more like family Both granddaughters can't let go of their mom, the busy influencer Camila Guiribitey, whose 1 million followers can't get enough of the stylish Latin women.

Everything they do is not for the faint at heart. Lavish attires, the atest fashion trends, be it Chanel or Dior, these women own it all. But they work

hard at it. As the Kardashians of South Florida, Cami and Taty (the Mamilover) are taking the entertainment world by storm. All from the set of their own home.

The whole production is a full-time job. "We spend more time in the Spa (a beauty salon designed for hair and makeup that resembles any hair salon in the city of Coral Gables) than anywhere else in the house," commented the Mamilover.

Surrounded by her talented team, soft-spoken, meticulous makeup artist and hair stylist Diosdanis Garcia Rivas and Dayana Denis, also hair stylist to Cami and Taty.

Here, you glance at the magazines Taty and Cami have been featured in. They always look spotless. Most importantly, they look like fun. Entertainment has always been in Taty's mind. "I don't know why; my husband jokes that I am an artist at heart," said the matriarch of the family while sitting in a chair situated in the middle of the spa. "This is where we truly relax. I told my husband my number one priority is to have this room. Here, we sometimes spend 8 hours a day."

During the interview, Taty explains that they worked hard to create their business ventures. "We all hail from Cuba. I have two daughters. We started 40 years ago, working hard, working

with the community. My husband opened the medical clinics, and that was the core of our business, how to relate to the community and understand them from a medical standpoint." The family is now philanthropic and is starting to develop new ventures to aid and assist people in need. "Our foundation is aiming to do this. We've always been active in this sector, but two years ago, we made the decision to start the foundation with the mission to assist everyone with mental health issues or medical health initiatives."

"About 13 years ago, we had a house in the Dominican Republic; my daughter Cami is also a dentist (not just an influencer). We started seeing the issues many Dominicans were facing from our own staff. We began to go personally to "bateys", where people didn't have food, shoes, or medical supplies. My daughter Cami was doing dental work on people with AIDS who had never received treatment. That was the beginning of our mission, to aid and assist in every way possible."

"We have our heart in the Dominican Republic as well, all given with so much love and dedication, it's rewarding. We are now considering buying an ambulance and doing all the paperwork for it. Now, in the city where we reside full-time, Miami, we dedicate ourselves as well. Not only by attending but by donating. I want to point out that our foundation will also dedicate much of its efforts to mental awareness."

"Our daughter Paty is a psychiatrist. One of the problems of our society is that you cannot function if you have health problems. There is so much violence, suicides, and atrocities that we need to prevent. When your mind is clear, not depressed, or full of anxiety and disorders without treatment, you as an individual function in a healthy state. Our aim is to create a better society one by one by providing services or treatments that improve your life."

Cami has started her own family; she shares two daughters with Dr. Juan Carlos Izquierdo. Their state of the art dental care facility in Coral Gables in truly a remarkable business as well. The name of the company is CG Smile in Coral Gables. Both doctors, who are married, are featured prominently in all the city magazines and newspapers. But their lives have taken a turn for the social media factor.

"My daughter was the one that started it. She used to call me Mom all the time, come here, Mom, etc; the followers started calling me the "Mamilover," and that's the name origin. I didn't come up with it; it was the public."

Talking about her youth, Taty confirms that she loved the production. "I was in a Romeo & Juliet production at 12 with my friend Margarita. This was in Cuba, it was so successful it was televised on Cuban Television. I always knew I was entertaining. When I started having a family, I left that behind. I studied computer engineering and helped my husband with the IT business. But now that my artistic side is back, and I love it."

"One of the best aspects of what we do is how we inspire people. The message we are sending is not only about glamour, galas, and fashion. Some women thank me for saving their lives. This encourages us to continue expanding in the television and social networks that have created this persona. It does help, and it makes me happy and proud."

THE ART BODEGA COLLECTION

MARIA Cepero

With a subtle air of refinement and classical facial features, olive-skinned beauty pageant competitor Maria Cepero is a breath of fresh air. Competing at the highest-level representing Puerto Rico, the Island that has produced some of the most beautiful women in the world, Cepero most recently won the title of Miss Intercontinental.

Alongside the most powerful women in pageant competition, celebrity and entrepreneur Mari Allende and former Miss World 1975 Wilnelia Merced, the wondrous lady is here to stay, guided by the wisdom of two very important women who hail from the Island of Puerto Rico. The beauty with brains is also studying Constitutional Law in the Caribbean, maintaining a balance between her studies while preparing herself physically and mentally for the competitive stage of Beauty Pageants worldwide. Get a glimpse of her life here:

Maria, how many contests have you won? I have participated in several beauty pageants that have marked my career. I started at Miss World America, making it to the Top 5. Then, I competed in Miss World Puerto Rico, obtaining the first runner-up position. After this pageant, I was crowned Miss Intercontinental Puerto Rico 2024, which led me to represent my country in Egypt and win the Miss Intercontinental 2024

pageant last December. It has been an unforgettable experience that has allowed me to grow personally and professionally.

Who discovered you?

I owe my discovery in the world of beauty pageants to Maria Allende and Wilnelia Merced's organization, Miss World 1975. They saw in me the potential to stand out in this world and gave me the confidence to take my first steps in modeling and beauty pageants.

Where are you from?

I am originally from Aibonito, Puerto Rico. It's a small town but full of charm, culture, and hardworking people. Growing up in a place like this pushed me to fight harder for my dreams and to show that with determination and effort, there are no limits to what we can achieve.

Why does Puerto Rico have such beautiful women?

The beauty of Puerto Rican women lies in the diversity of cultures that make up our identity. We are a mix of Taino, African, and European influences, which gives us unique traits and authentic beauty. In addition, our joy, charisma, and inner strength enhance that outer beauty and make us stand out on any stage.

Tell us about your experience in Egypt. Egypt was a magical and transformative experience. From the majesty of the pyramids to the warmth of its people, every moment was unforgettable. During the pageant, I had the opportunity to live with candidates from all over the world, which allowed me to learn from their cultures and make lifelong friendships. It was an honor to represent Puerto Rico and eventually win the title of Miss Intercontinental 2024. This achievement resulted from months of preparation, effort, and dedication, and I carry it with great pride.

Does Alexander, your makeup artist, follow you everywhere?

Yes, we have worked together since my first contest. It was essential for me to find someone who knew me perfectly and which styles best suited me. Alexander has been a key part of my success in beauty pageants. His talent is impressive, and he has worked with many successful female candidates. Over time, our relationship has evolved beyond

professionalism, and we are now great friends. We will undoubtedly continue to grow together in this industry.

Why is hairstyle and makeup so crucial in a pageant?

Makeup and hairstyle are essential in a contest because they reflect our personality, highlight our best features, and help us project confidence on stage. Every detail is important. The image is an extension of our presence and attitude. Having an expert who understands what's best for each occasion makes the difference between an ordinary presentation versus an impactful one.

What are your aspirations?

My aspirations go beyond the world of pageants. I want to be a successful lawyer and businesswoman. I want to work at the United Nations as an advocate for women's rights, as well as in the corporate and entertainment arenas. I also want to continue working in beauty pageants and be able to work with

haute couture and makeup brands. I also believe in the power of education and the importance of using my platform to positively impact society.

Do you have many suitors?

Would you like to get married someday? Right now, I'm not dating anyone, but I would like to get married and start a family in the future. I believe in love and building a relationship based on respect, admiration, and mutual support.

Family in the future or work?

For me, balance is key. I want to be a mother and have a family, but I also have many professional goals that I want to achieve. It's possible to have both if you manage your time well and have the right support.

What are the fashion trends you follow?

I love keeping up with trends, but I always adapt fashion to my personal style. Currently, I bet on minimalist, elegant, and sophisticated pieces such as Chanel, Miu Miu, and Dior. I like neutral tones, but sometimes, I enjoy incorporating vibrant colors that reflect my personality.

What's your beauty routine?

I have several beauty routines, differentiating day and night. In the morning, I focus on hydration and sun protection, while I prioritize skin regeneration at night. My favorite products are Retinol and vitamin C. I also include red light therapy and body treatments like EMS to keep my skin firm and toned. In addition, I have a personal trainer, and I follow a balanced diet because beauty starts from within.

What is the most difficult thing about beauty pageants?

Staying informed about current issues in an everchanging world is the most challenging thing. As ambassadors of an organization, it is our duty to be educated and responsibly represent the causes that touch our hearts. Preparation goes far beyond the physical aspect; it requires discipline, knowledge, and a genuine commitment to the work we do.

JUDGE OR Be Judged

FLOATING by on a moving animal, focused & listening for a bell, one looks out of the corner of her eye, coming to a polished lady staring with not a smile. I'm not sure whose more intense the rider dressed in pressed white with black looking tuxedo and its tails flopping on the horses' side or the lady in designer blouse with silk scarf sitting in a ten by eight foot box. It rings, the two lock eyes, the lady with short perfectly brushed hair except a blonde chunky highlighted strand falling at her temple, warmly smiles at the competitor and slightly nods to give a push of mental encouragement. This FEI 5* (Level 4)

I have always been very competitive. In Jr. High, I competed at state music contests playing the piano, and the flute, and performing cheerleading. I won a scholarship to college. My ambition made me the Girl of the West Rodeo Queen, and President of my sorority Pi Beta Phi. After college, I started training and showing horses. I always wanted to win. I loved it when other barns would say “oh we saw you pull in so we knew, first was out (for us).” I enjoyed all the awards but enjoyed horse training more. I love how the horse thinks, and how fun it was to figure out the horse's personality. I won my USDF Bronze, Silver & Gold rider medals. I was excited and loved coaching over 40 students to their medals. That is very rewarding to this day. When I started judging, my dream was to judge the Olympics. A dream I never thought would come to pass but it did in Tokyo 2021.

I danced American Smooth at Bronze and Intermediate Silver and Standard Ballroom at the Intermediate Silver Level. We dance in age categories which is great for we more mature ladies.I am thrilled and shocked to have amazing results: First Place in the Multi Dance Scholarship, Int Silver in both Standard and Smooth, Second Place in Multi Dance Scholarship, Bronze in Smooth and Standard, First Place in the Championships for Int Silver Smooth and Standard, Third Place for the Championships in Smooth Bronze. We are now working on Full Silver for both divisions and hope to compete this Spring!

Dressage Olympic Judge who judged Tokyo Olympic Games, the famous Aachen 5*, many World Cups, World Breeding Championships for Young Horses, and much more around the world, Janet Foy shares her story of being on the other side being judged herself in competitive Ballroom Dancing. Janet grew up in Colorado Springs. Her animal loving grandfather from Austria took she and her sister every Saturday for riding lessons & lunch for their family outing. Not surprising Vienna is Janet’s favorite place.

“Similar to dressage, there are 5 judges around the floor. I learned early, do not make eye contact because you will immediately forget everything and go ‘ oΩ course’!” says Janet, FEI 5* Dressage Judge.

“Sparkles” her calling

“When I stopped riding due to travel, I needed another outlet. My good friend Jane Savoie took me Ballroom Dancing and I was hooked. It is a mental and physical challenge! There are competitions, with beautiful dresses and rhinestones! The girls at the USEF office have nicknamed me “Sparkles”, I am a bit like a magpie. My current coach is from Russia Alexei Iudkin. He is a coach that I love, too sophisticated for me when I started but perfect now. He has trained many champions. This fall we went to the National Dance Championships with couples from all over the USA. I had never been to that level before, and there were 26,000 dances over the week. Huge!” Janet.

Shereen’s thoughts, Immersed in the vibrant realm of the sport horse industry, particularly within the graceful disciplines of dressage, hunter/jumpers, and equitation—first in Wellington and now in Germany—I find joy in uncovering the rich tapestries of people's backgrounds and the diverse pursuits that harmonize their lives. The care and training of these majestic, stoic creatures demand unwavering dedication, transforming the bond with horses into a

full-time endeavor. Thus, to weave one’s skills into another passionate pursuit is a remarkable journey. Learning of Janet's noble aspiration to judge the dressage realm at its zenith, and her willingness to be judged in turn, reveals a spirit of inspiration and generosity—one that fosters the growth of others while embracing constructive critique. Ultimately, to strive for personal growth is the most profound quest we can embark upon for ourselves. www.shereen.fuqua.com

THE ALLURE OF RENATO’S

in Palm Beach

Tucked away in the heart of Palm Beach, Renato’s shines as a symbol of elegance—a culinary treasure that has captivated locals and visitors since its founding in 1987. The restaurant’s intimate dining room, adorned with warm wood accents and Limoges table settings, radiates a timeless sophistication that is unmistakably Palm Beach. Yet, its true allure lies in the breathtaking courtyard—a floral haven that captures the island’s lush, tropical essence. At the helm of this iconic establishment are Arlene Desiderio and her son, Jose Luis Duran, the visionary duo who have transformed a single restaurant into the flourishing Al Fresco Hospitality Group, a family-owned empire that has become a pillar of Palm Beach’s dining scene.

Renato’s was first established by Arlene’s late husband, Renato Desiderio, a restaurateur with a passion for Italian-inflected Continental cuisine. Following his passing in 1998, Arlene took over, determined to preserve his legacy while guiding the restaurant into a new chapter. Joined by her son Jose Luis, who began working at Renato’s as a teenager, the pair embarked on a path of expansion and innovation. What began as a lone fine-dining venue has evolved into a collection of cherished eateries, each crafted to suit the varied tastes of Palm Beach’s discerning residents.

Today, the Al Fresco Hospitality Group boasts an impressive portfolio:

• Piccolo Gelato, serving authentic Italian gelato

• Piccolo Mondo, a takeout window offering quick, delicious fare

• Pizza Al Fresco, a relaxed pizzeria with a chic courtyard and wood-fired pizzas

• Al Fresco at Par 3, an oceanfront dining spot atop the Palm Beach Par 3 golf course

• Acqua Café, their latest venture, a modern coastal Italian bistro on the island’s South End

Each venue reflects the duo’s dedication to quality, ambiance, and community—a recipe that has solidified their reputation as Palm Beach dining luminaries.

Arlene and Jose Luis credit their success to years of hard work, an instinct for evolving with their clientele, and a steadfast commitment to excellence. “Palm Beach is about tradition, but it also embraces innovation,” says Arlene. “We respect our history, but we’re always listening— always refining, always making sure that every guest, whether they’re visiting for the first time or the hundredth, feels at home.” Jose Luis shares this philosophy, emphasizing that their restaurants are designed to be welcoming spaces where culinary excellence meets warm hospitality.

A key element in their empire’s smooth operation is their staff, whom Arlene and Jose Luis consider family. The Al Fresco Hospitality Group embodies the essence of Palm Beach: sophisticated, vibrant, and deeply connected to its community.
