Charting the Course to Designing Optimal Healthcare Facilities CASE STUDY: INSPIRA HEALTH NETWORK
PAGE 2
THE STORY When we were engaged by Inspira Health Network to design their new greenfield hospital, the first question we sought to answer wasn’t how big the facility should be or where it should be located, rather it was “should you build a new hospital at all?” At the heart of our mission to serve our clients is the understanding that the best answer to an operational or facility question may not always result in construction. This mindset may seem contrary to what most think of as the architect’s role, but it is a fundamental premise that shapes Array’s approach. We believe that by aligning real estate assets, demographics, and operational processes as an integrated precursor to the design process, we can achieve more optimized solutions for our clients that can contribute to short- and long-term cost controls by: •
Facilitating efficient operational processes that are tuned to specific care and staffing models.
•
Aligning service scale and location to meet business plan goals for capturing market share.
•
Right-sizing programs to ensure that what is constructed does not create capital cost burdens.
•
Directing construction costs to the elements that truly have the most impact on patient care and community health.

Right-Sizing Programs and Choosing Impactful Patient Care Elements For the decision to build to be made with confidence, we also had to conduct concurrent program analysis scenarios that could be

The potential programmatic ROI strategies were calculated and then validated through discrete event simulation modeling. In order to gain complete confidence in some scenarios, events were simulated for time periods that equated to 104 years of operations!
