Audience Applauds Brave Resilient Artists at Second "Readers Theater" Event
by Jackie Fisher & Betty Morín
The Brave Resilient Women Committee of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Alhambra-San Gabriel Branch presented "Brave Resilient American Women of the Arts" at San Gabriel Methodist Church on Saturday, October 28. Artists in the fields of Dance, Literature, Music, Theater/ Drama, and Visual Arts were highlighted.
Betty Morín, the committee's founder, organized and directed the program, which focused on artists who challenged the status quo and whose determination and persistence, paired with hard work and talent, brought them to the highest levels of success. Audiovisuals, photos, and quotes capturing the essence of the featured artists were embedded in the presentations. AAUW members, friends, Tech Trek Campers, and their families enjoyed this free, entertaining, and instructional presentation, during which light snacks from Home Girl Café were provided.
Director Morín first brought a small committee together in 2021 to share her dream of creating a "Readers Theater" to spotlight eleven cutting-edge scientists and courageous change-makers as culturally diverse American women contributing to the "fabric of America." In March of 2022, the dream came true and was enthusiastically applauded by over one hundred AAUW members and friends. On October 28, 2023, the second program became another success.
