“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”
– Isaiah 40:8
We are blessed to live in a part of the country with outstanding medical professionals. In fact, people travel from around the world to seek care from providers and medical facilities we have right here in our backyard. In this month’s issue, we want to introduce you to a few of them and celebrate the ways they give of themselves every day.
We also celebrate the month when the air turns crisp and the vibrant hues of autumn paint our world. October in North Texas is about football and comfy sweaters. It’s about nights around the bonfire with friends and cups of pumpkin-anything in our hands. Fall is a time of transformation—in nature and in our daily routines. As we enjoy this slower time of year, let’s not forget the One who “made the moon for the seasons and taught the sun the place of its setting”.
This is a great time to reflect on all the Father has done in our lives and thank Him for the abundance He’s poured into your life since January 1—family, friends, church, job, food—and begin preparing our hearts for Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner.

WISDOM IN TH E STREETS
LIGHT FROM THE THRONE
BY MIKE MAZYCK
“Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks …” (Proverbs 1:20–21)
We live in a time of “noisy streets.” Everywhere we turn, someone — something — is clamoring for our attention. The noisier it gets … the louder they shout. Yet even in the noise, God’s voice can be heard. Even the unbelievers, unbeknownst to themselves, often proclaim the wisdom of God. They proclaim words they cannot themselves hear.
I was reminded of this truth recently as I listened to a clip from the Huberman Labs podcast on YouTube. The show is hosted by well-known neuroscientist Andrew Huberman, associate professor at Stanford School of Medicine. Huberman’s resume is quite impressive, and he has become popular in recent years through his multiple appearances on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Huberman himself now boasts nearly 7 million subscribers on YouTube and millions more on Instagram.
One of the more foundational of Huberman’s tenets, which has been circulating the internet over the past couple years, is on the value of getting natural sunlight to your eyes first thing in the morning. Huberman teaches that this one simple — and free — morning discipline has the power to radically transform our physical and mental health.
And Huberman is not the only well-educated doctor prescribing this as a crucial part of a good morning routine: Dr. Jack Kruse (neurosurgeon), Dr. Daniel Amen (psychiatrist), Dr. Mark Hyman (functional medicine pioneer), and Dr. Matthew Walker (neuroscientist and author of Why We Sleep) are just a few of the other big names who have looked at the studies and come to the same conclusion as Huberman: Getting natural sunlight first thing in the morning should be a cornerstone habit of our lives — it is absolutely vital to our health as human beings.
But why? What does it actually do?
Morning sunlight sends a signal to the brain’s suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) — your body’s master clock that sets its Circadian rhythm – setting off a chain of events. Proper Circadian alignment has huge impacts on testosterone, growth hormones, and insulin sensitivity. Your body experiences a natural, and healthy, cortisol spike that leads to focus, alertness, and energy throughout the day. It ramps up serotonin production, which improves mood and combats depression. And, lastly, it regulates melatonin production, which means you’ll enjoy better-quality sleep later that night.
The studies, and the experts, all seem to agree with Huberman: “Getting sunlight in your eyes first thing in the morning is absolutely vital to mental and physical health. It is perhaps the most important thing that any and all of us can and should do … It is the single best behavioral tool for improving sleep, mood, and overall well-being.”
Those are strong words. Although I’m always wary about over-spiritualizing things in this life, I can’t help but find
myself chuckling a bit on the inside as I consider the irony of this teaching. I am reminded of another wise man’s words …
“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1)
I find myself grinning as I consider the words of the Apostle Paul, too …
“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20)
Oh yes, God is continually revealing Himself through His creation. Wisdom is certainly crying aloud in the streets — on the interwebs — and on the socials. If only we will listen.
The doctors, the scientists, and the gurus have been to their universities, they have studied their books, and they have earned their degrees. And here is the wisdom they declare as they “raise their voices in the markets” …
“Oh, man, please listen to us. Consider all of our accolades and the many bullet points on our resumes, and hear our words: Do you see that great and inescapable light up there in the heavens? It is the one that our Earth, and our lives, are literally orbiting around at this very moment. It is the one we just so happen to call the Sun. If you want to be healthy, here is what you must do: As soon as possible, upon waking every single day, you must find yourself gazing toward this great light. It will recalibrate you. It will improve you. It will change and transform you on the inside. It will give you rest at night. Listen to us, oh man: If you want to be healthy, here is the daily medicine we prescribe. Locate that magnificent ‘light’ that dwells in the heavens, and every single morning, find yourself in its presence!”
I can’t help but wonder, do they hear the words they speak? Do we?
“I am the light of the world …” (John 8:12)
The sun shall be no more your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give you light; but the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.”
(Isaiah 60:19)
And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. (Revelation 21:23)

A Legacy of Care in Mansfield, Texas
DR. CODY BAUER OF MANSFIELD FAMILY DENTISTRY
DID YOU KNOW THE AVERAGE AMERICAN SPENDS 38 AND A HALF TOTAL DAYS BRUSHING THEIR TEETH OVER A LIFETIME.
Dr. Cody Bauer has some big shoes to fill— and he knows it. He’s happily continuing the legacy his parents built as they’ve cared for generations of Greater Mansfield families for more than four decades. That legacy began in the early 80s, when Dr. John Bauer and his wife, Terri, decided Mansfield Texas—a place that had always felt like home— was the perfect spot to settle down, raise their family, and open their family dental practice.
Over the next four decades, the Bauers were rewarded for their hard work as generations of Mansfield families made Mansfield Family Dentistry their dental home. Dr. John and Terri partnered with the families of Greater Mansfield providing them cutting-edge restorative and cosmetic dentistry.
In 2009 their son, Dr. Cody Bauer, added a breath of fresh air to the family practice bringing with him a commitment to the latest advanced dental technology, a passion for cosmetic dentistry, and a commitment to proactive oral care that takes into account not just the teeth and gums but their direct impact on the health of the rest of the body.
For 16 years, the two Drs. Bauer worked with and learned from one another. Then, earlier
this year, Dr. John turned the reins over to Dr. Cody secure in the fact that the younger Dr. Bauer would continue to honor the commitment his parents made to care for their Mansfield neighbors. While Dr. John is enjoying his well-earned retirement, Terri chose to stay on in her role as practice manager, a career she has loved for four decades.
CRAFTING A DENTAL HOME
Amazingly, there are patients being treated by Dr. Cody who were not only treated by his father, but so were their parents—and their parents before them. “We treat three and even four generations of some local families,” Dr. Cody said. “Their trust in us and commitment to Mansfield Family Dentistry is humbling. We want to make sure, once they’re happy here, we offer them everything they need from simple cleanings and filling to advanced cosmetic procedures including teeth straightening and full-mouth makeovers. And as new technologies come on the market, we want to evaluate each one to see if it’s something we can offer our patients to make their care gentler and more precise.”
ALL UNDER ONE ROOF
That one-stop-shop mentality means that, if Dr. Cody realizes during a routine check-up, that a patient could benefit from a root canal, tooth extraction, or dental implant or when
they inquire about a cosmetic procedure, he rarely has to refer them out to another dental practice. “Just as my dad did, I complete hundreds of hours of continuing education every year and invest in the latest, cuttingedge dental technology, so we can provide our patients with cosmetic procedures such as tooth whitening, porcelain veneers, inlays, onlays, Invisalign clear braces, and permanent dental implants, right here in their dental home,” Dr. Cody said. “And if there are procedures they’d like us to offer, we’re open to looking into them and implementing them into the practice.”
PATIENT EDUCATION AND EMPOWERMENT
Dr. Cody takes seriously his role of educator to his patient. “The more they understand about their oral health and the way it impacts their overall wellness, the better equipped they are to be an active participant in their own wellness,” he said. “It’s my job to provide each patient with the tools they need for a lifetime of vibrant oral health, especially now that links have been established between oral health and the health of the rest of the body and the chance of developing heart disease, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and other serious illnesses. Oral health is about much more than beautiful teeth.”
DOWNHOME FRIENDLY CARE
Mansfield Family Dentistry has always been relationship-driven and that certainly hasn’t changed. “There’s nothing more rewarding to us than building relationships with our patients,” Dr. Cody said. “Nothing thrilled my parents more than watching a young patient grow, from before they lost their baby teeth to the day they brought their own kids in to see them. I look forward to doing the same thing.”
Dr. Cody is blessed to have inherited a dynamic team of dental assistants and office staff, many of whom have been there for years. “They care about our patients as much as we do and they go out of their way to make sure a trip to Mansfield Family Dentistry feels like coming home,” Dr. Cody said. If you’re searching for a true dental home for your family, why not consider the family that has cared for Mansfield families for four decade—and counting. Find out more at MansfieldDentistry.com.
The Bauers would like to thank the community for their dedication and support of Dr. John during his decades long career. He loved getting to talk with past and present patients at his retirement Open House in August. Everyone made the day truly special and memorable. Celebrating this milestone surrounded by such wonderful friends, family and colleagues meant so much to the Bauer family. Who knows, maybe next time you have an appointment, Dr. John will be up there too.

9TH ANNUAL WEST MAIN ARTS FESTIVAL
The heart of Downtown Arlington came alive on September 20, as the West Main Arts Festival returned for its 9th annual celebration. JIYOUNG JUNG, DDS
CENTRAL PARK DENTAL & ORTHODONTICS
“No Scalpel. No Drill. Less Pain. Faster Healing.” ose words are music to the ears of any dental patient. But it’s especially melodious to parents of young children and babies who require oral surgery such as tonsil treatment and tongue-tie surgery (frenectomy). It’s for them that Dr. Jiyoung Jung invested in the latest state-of-the-art dental laser technology.
“Laser tonsil therapy represents a signi cant leap forward from conventional tonsillectomy procedures,” Dr. Jung explained. “ is minimally invasive treatment uses precisely calibrated laser energy to address enlarged tonsils, chronic tonsillitis, and related airway obstructions that contribute to sleep disorders and breathing di culties.” e precision laser reduces in amed tissue while preserving healthy structures, performed safely in-o ce with minimal downtime and discomfort.
When a baby is born with tongue-tie, it can interfere with breast and bottle feeding, speech development, and sleep quality. “ e condition a ects approximately 4-11% of newborns, though many cases go undiagnosed,” Dr. Jung noted. “Traditional approaches often involve invasive scissors procedures, but our laser technology allows us to o er a gentler, more precise solution.”
Gentle laser tongue-tie treatment often produces remarkable improvements in breastfeeding within hours. e procedure provides precise tissue removal, immediate cauterization, and minimal swelling, discomfort, and recovery time.
Dr. Jung employs laser technology for gum disease treatment, gum-whitening, deep-pocket decontamination, perioregenerative treatment, bacterial reduction, gum reshaping, lesion removal, tooth sensitivity reduction, implant preparation, canker sore treatment, snoring treatment, and head and neck pain relief.
“If a child is su ering from ADHD, bed-wetting, and di culty in school, I advocate evaluating their sleep and airway to see if the problem may be sleep related,” Dr. Jung said. “We may nd a way to help them without medication.”
Dr. Jung believes wellness begins with a healthy mouth. “ ere’s a profound connection between oral health and overall wellness,” she said. “I look at the teeth as a part of the brain. eir function goes far beyond chewing and talking.”
Dr. Jung o ers comprehensive services including: Advanced Dental Laser Treatments, Cosmetic Dentistry and Orthodontics, General and Restorative Dentistry, Family and Preventative Dentistry, and Sleep and Airway Dentistry.
Dr. Jung conducts comprehensive exams screening for oral cancer, gum disease, cavities, TMD, sleep/breathing disorders, tongue-tie, facial symmetry, head and neck pain, and postural misalignment. When indicated, she collaborates with chiropractors, physical therapists, sleep physicians, myofunctional therapists, and nutritionists.
“THERE’S A PROFOUND CONNECTION BETWEEN ORAL HEALTH AND OVERALL WELLNESS. I LOOK AT THE TEETH AS A PART OF THE BRAIN. THEIR FUNCTION GOES FAR BEYOND CHEWING AND TALKING.”
Dr. Jung graduated from Texas A&M College of Dentistry and completed residency in Advanced Education for General Dentistry, studying advanced gum surgery, dental implants, full-mouth esthetic makeovers, and advanced root-canal treatment. She relocated Central Park Dental from Arlington to Mans eld in 2024.
Dr. Jung has been featured on NBC, ABC, FOX, CW, CBS & TEDx and recognized as an award-winning dentist in D Magazine’s Best Dentists (2021-2025).

They devote countless hours and millions of dollars to Disney offerings, whether or not they have children. Their ranks are so large and their cultural impact so distinct that they have their own moniker and are an economic force unto themselves. But in truth, their obsessive fandom hints at a universal desire for pleasure and joy, for magic and escape.
Disney Adults dives deep into a misunderstood subculture, exploring the lives and experiences of a fascinating community to better understand its devotees’ unwavering passion for all things Disney, why it offends, and why it matters.

Beyond Awareness
TECHNOLOGY IS TURNING THE TIDE ON BREAST CANCER
BY ANNETTE BROOKS
Each October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month paints the world pink to champion education, early detection, and research in the battle against breast cancer. anks to this campaign and others raising awareness, most of us know that one in eight women in the U.S. is a ected by breast cancer.
Yet armed with this knowledge, 30–40% of women still skip regular screening mammograms. If you’ve been tempted to skip your screening mammogram or are an anxious rst timer, please keep reading. Learn how technological advances make breast cancer screening and treatment better than ever.
ADVANCES IN MAMMOGRAPHY, GENETIC AND GENOMIC TESTING
Cutting-edge technologies and advanced screening methods have transformed how we detect and treat breast cancer.
Mammography - Today, 3D mammography (digital breast tomosynthesis) delivers sharper images, improving detection rates by up to 40% compared to 2D methods, especially for women with dense breasts. It also reduces “false positives,” which means fewer women are called back for additional imaging.
Breast MRI – This non-invasive medical imaging test uses radio waves and strong magnets to make detailed pictures of the inside of the breast. It can help detect and evaluate breast cancer, particularly in women with dense breast tissue or those at higher risk.
Genetic Screening - BRCA (BReast CAncer) mutations increase lifetime breast cancer risk to 60–70%. BRCA gene tests look for DNA changes that increase the risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer using a sample of blood or saliva. Women should consider BRCA genetic screening if they have a strong family history of breast or ovarian cancer, or if they have a personal history of breast cancer, especially at a young age (50 or younger) or of ovarian cancer.
Genomic Testing - Genomic testing on a breast cancer tumor analyzes the tumor’s genetic makeup to provide information about its behavior and potential response to treatment. is testing can help determine the risk of recurrence, guide treatment decisions, and identify targeted therapies that may be most e ective. Types of genomic tests include Oncotype DX and MammaPrint. In some cases, genomic testing can help avoid unnecessary chemotherapy, especially in patients with low-risk tumors. Next-generation sequencing
(NGS) is a broader test that analyzes multiple genes to identify speci c mutations that may indicate a need for targeted therapies.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
AI technology is revolutionizing the ght, o ering the potential to improve accuracy, efficiency, and personalization in both screening and treatment. In the U.S., AI-powered mammography systems have earned FDA Breakthrough Device designation for predicting breast cancer risk years in advance.
According to a study in “Radiology: Arti cial Intelligence,” an AI tool called iBRISK (intelligent-augmented breast cancer risk calculator) could accurately predict whether abnormal tissue agged by doctors was more likely to be benign or cancerous.

LET’S ACT!
Take the time to schedule a screening mammogram, share survivor stories, and support research. Tools like AI and 3D mammography are transformative, but their impact hinges on participation. By embracing screenings and innovation, we can turn awareness into saved lives.
GLOW WITHOUT THE SHOW
MASTERING THE NO-MAKEUP MAKEUP LOOK
Looking effortlessly radiant while appearing like you’re wearing no makeup at all? That’s the beauty of the “no-makeup” makeup look — a minimal, skin-first approach that emphasizes natural beauty, not full coverage. It’s not about ditching your beauty routine; it’s about perfecting it in a way that enhances your features while letting your skin breathe.
The no-makeup look isn’t new, but it’s having a major moment. From celebrities on the red carpet to everyday professionals on Zoom calls, this subtle, polished aesthetic works across all settings and skin types. And the best part? It’s easier to achieve than it looks.
SKIN FIRST, ALWAYS
Healthy, hydrated skin is the foundation of the no-makeup look. Before you reach for any cosmetics, start with a skincare routine that includes a gentle cleanser, a hydrating serum or moisturizer, and a
broad-spectrum SPF. This ensures your skin is smooth, supple, and naturally glowing before makeup even enters the picture.
SHEER AND STRATEGIC
Ditch heavy foundations for lightweight alternatives like tinted moisturizers, BB creams, or skin tints that even out tone without masking your complexion. For added luminosity, mix a drop of liquid highlighter into your base product. Apply with your fingers or a damp sponge for a skin-like finish.
Concealer is your secret weapon. Rather than layering it all over, spot-conceal where needed — think under the eyes, around the nose, or on blemishes. Tap it in gently to blend and blur.
A TOUCH OF TINT
Cream-based products are your best friend when going for a barely-there flush. Use
a cream blush or multi-stick in a shade close to your natural lip tone and apply to cheeks, lips, and even eyelids for a monochromatic wash of color. This gives you just enough warmth and dimension without looking “done.”
Skip the harsh brow products in favor of a tinted brow gel to groom and lightly define. Brush brows upward for that fresh, feathery look.
FINISH SOFT & GLOWY
A swipe of mascara (brown works beautifully for this look) lifts your lashes without overpowering. If you have oily skin or want to set certain areas, opt for a translucent setting powder or blotting paper — just enough to reduce shine without making your skin look flat. The goal is to look like you — just a little more rested, hydrated, and confident.

HOW TO CREATE A STELLAR GUEST ROOM BY KIM ARMSTRONG
START WITH THE BED: COMFORT IS QUEEN
No matter how chic the decor, an uncomfortable bed is a deal-breaker. Splurge where it counts: a good mattress with a cushy topper, buttery-soft sheets (think 100% cotton or linen), and a pile of pillows in varying firmness. Add a cozy duvet or quilt and finish it off with a throw blanket for texture and snuggle appeal. Keep an extra blanket nearby in a woven basket or draped at the foot of the bed — some like it warm, others chilly.
In terms of furniture, if your budget is tight, consider looking at Facebook Marketplace or purchasing a bed that you can upgrade with new fabric. Also, keep an eye out for side tables and decor while browsing for the bed.
LIGHT IT RIGHT
Layer your lighting with bedside lamps on both sides. Soft, warm-toned bulbs are your best friend here — they create ambiance and flatter everyone.
GO FOR BOUTIQUE HOTEL VIBES
Add small luxuries: a sign with the wifi password on it, a stack of good books or design mags, and bottled water by the bed when they arrive. Also, a nice touch is to provide a universal phone charger where you can also set your watch and AirPods for charging. If I am feeling really ambitious, I will iron the sheets with a linen spray to make them smell amazing.
STORAGE SMARTS
Give guests space to unpack and settle in. Even if you don’t have a full closet, offer a few hangers, a luggage rack, and a clear drawer or shelf.
MAKE IT MULTI-FUNCTIONAL (WITHOUT COMPROMISING STYLE)
If your guest room moonlights as an office, yoga space, or storage area, keep it stylish and streamlined. Murphy beds, fold-down desks, or daybeds with trundles can be total lifesavers. Keep the vibe guest-friendly by tucking away work gear when company comes.
A stellar guest room is a mix of comfort, style, and that extra sparkle of thoughtfulness. It’s not about size — it’s about the feeling. Whether you’re working with a dedicated room or a multi-use nook, create a space that says, “I’m glad you are here.”

EPIC ESCAPE
A FAMILY ADVENTURE AT UNIVERSAL’S NEWEST PARK
When your kids are on the verge of becoming teenagers, you start looking at family vacations differently. How many more trips can you squeeze in before sports, part-time jobs, dating, and social lives crowd out family time?
That was on our minds when we learned about Universal Epic Universe, opening in 2025 at Universal Orlando Resort. We suggested a trip to our 13-year-old daughter and her best friend, and before we could finish explaining, they were both all in.
To make the getaway extra special, we splurged on a VIP Experience. It turned out to be the best decision of the trip. Our guide, Joe, whisked us from one attraction to the next, filling us in on behind-the-scenes details and helping us spot hidden “Easter eggs” within the park.
On The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man ride, for example, he pointed out Stan Lee’s cameo appearances.
In another corner of the park, he showed us a golden King Kong statue—a subtle nod to Kongfrontation, the retired attraction that once held a place in Universal history.
With front-of-line access, we knocked out 20 rides in a single day and skipped nearly 12 hours of wait times. We started the morning with a hearty breakfast included in our VIP package, but even with four days for our trip, we couldn’t fit everything in.
Epic Universe is designed around five immersive “worlds.” There’s The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic, Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe, dedicated to the classic Universal Monsters. At the center is Celestial Park, where guests enter through lush gardens, celestialthemed architecture, and dancing fountains. It instantly sets the tone for wonder.
The scale is jaw-dropping. Built on part of a 750-acre expansion site, Epic Universe represents a reported $7 billion investment. Universal describes it as “a transformational theme park” that takes visitors “worlds beyond.” Marketing language aside, it truly feels like an entirely new level of theme park experience.
Universal Epic Universe will be the resort’s fourth theme park, joining Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay. Beyond the rides, guests can look forward to themed hotels, entertainment, and dining woven throughout the property.
For our family, the best part wasn’t just the high-tech attractions or the lush landscapes. It was hearing the words we hoped for as soon as we got home: “When can we go back?” universalorlando.com
