Behind the scenes at
Luna Animal Rescue
Many readers may have heard about Luna Animal Rescue but do you know what it is they actually do? We took the opportunity to talk to Natalie Howe from Luna, to find out what it is they do exactly and how local people can help get involved...
Luna Animal Rescue was founded in 2013 to rehome dogs in need. Since then it has grown into a much larger network of foster homes, adopters, volunteers and of course donators. Luna now rehomes small animals, cats, dogs and ponies at times, and has taken over the farm now known as LARCH farm behind Etonbury Academy. LARCH farm is home to a cantankerous goat, 2 ponies, 2 pigs and a horde of other birdlife where they all live in sanctuary. Luna is run purely by volunteers, with no paid staff, just a band of people who help to rehabilitate and care for animals who have met hard times and need that step on the ladder to get to a happier life. To fundraise, Luna run dog shows, have days up at our charity partner store at Pets at Home, Biggleswade, and run auctions and raffles online, as well as quiz nights and music festivals.
Luna has recently started to run neutering campaigns promoting responsible ownership and to help to reduce unwanted litters, at a time when rescues are at an all time crisis point, with hugely oversubscribed numbers if pets unwanted and needing help. Luna is also working within the community to support those struggling financially currently, and will try to assist with feeding and parasite control for pets as we can, within the local area. At Luna, we really value education, and love to give talks to schools and groups and bring along some of our animals to say hello. Feel free to contact us if you would like to have us come and do one of these. Things to look out for... watch out for our up and coming music festival in Shefford. If you like puppies....watch our Facebook page and see our new litter of babies born recently to a stray pound dog we took in.
