BARRY & DOREEN ALBON Diamond Wedding Anniversary 21st July 2022.

Barry & Doreen Albon met at the Fairfield Hospital dance when he was 21 and she was 17. Doreen worked at Irvine Parachutes in Letchworth as a parachute inspector and Barry worked at Lloyd’s lawnmowers as an engineer. Barry has lived in Arlesey since he was born in 1938, living in Hospital Road, Hitchin Road and Everest Close. Doreen originally came from Walsworth in Hitchin.

Before they met, Barry had done his National Service in Aden in the Northamptonshire Regiment. They enjoyed two years of courtship before they were married on 21st July 1962 at St Saviours church in Hitchin. After they were married they honeymooned in Torquay and lived in Hitchin until their son Stephen was born in 1965. They then moved to Arlesey where four years later their daughter Claire was born.

Barry played football for Arlesey Town football club in the 50’s and 60’s and was also in the committee and called the bingo for many years with his son. He was also a very keen and very good Bowler playing for Stotfold Bowls Club, being picked to play for the county. In later years they were lucky enough to have 2 grandchildren from daughter, Claire & husband Stuart. Connor was born in 1995 and Danielle in 1998. Needless to say they are very spoilt! Over the years they have had four dogs (cocker spaniels) who they have doted on and were also very spoilt. They both worked at Fairfield Hospital before retiring where nowadays they enjoy their time gardening, shopping, reading, painting & being chauffeured about as well as watching sport and drinking endless cups of tea. Wishing them a splendid diamond anniversary from all their family & friends xxx
