We have officially reached the midway point for the year, which means the second half of the year will be all but said and done before we know it, and 2019 will start with a vengeance!!

With that being said, the 2019 Arkansas Auctioneers Convention will be the first week of February, and its time for all of you competitors to begin thinking about participating and get focused on what your goals might be!

New for 2019 will be an Advertising contest, which will allow you to showcase your best marketing advertisement you may currently be working on or an ad campaign you just may be proud of. Whichever it may be, share with your association your best Advertisement, and you just might claim the top spot!!

Let us hear from you, if you have a category that you would like to see in our ADVERTISING CONTEST, please let us know. A Letter From the President

Hello AAA members, I can’t believe we are already six months into 2018.

We have had two CE classes so far this year, the CE’s at the convention in February with many great speakers, and our CE in Harrison in May with JB Robison as a speaker.

JB was a very enthusiastic and enlightening speaker. We also had a great group of Auctioneer’s that attended that CE. Gladys Webb, Ken Warner and myself were in attendance at the Harrison CE. Ken was kind enough to drive over and help us with registration and Gladys worked hard getting all the materials and handouts ready for everyone. We definitely have some hardworking folks on our board.

We will have two more CE’s coming up the remainder of the year, there will be the CE on June 18th in Jonesboro with the speaker being Junior Staggs and then the last CE of the year will be on September 17th in Little Rock with that speaker being Mike Brandly.

We feel great about the speakers that that we have arranged to have this year for all the CE classes. There is definitely an opportunity for even the most seasoned Auctioneer to learn something new to make their auction business better. You can register online for the upcoming CE class at https://www.arkansasauctioneers.org/ce-classes-2018/ The board is also already working hard and preparing for next year’s AAA convention that will be in Hot Springs on February 1st and 2nd, 2019. The convention will kick off with a meet and greet on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 6 PM in the evening. Then we will finish up on Sunday, Feb-

ruary 3rd with a day at the horse races for all association members that would like to attend.

We are working hard to make it another great convention and look forward seeing all of our auction family there.

Please mark your calendar’s now to keep that weekend open for lots of learning, networking, fun, music and fellowship.

All of our memberships run from January 1 to December 31, so if you have not renewed for the year please take a moment and go to their website and you can renew online.

The Arkansas auctioneers association also has a Facebook page, if you haven’t liked our page, please take a moment and do so. We post information on that site that you may find helpful and it’s also another way to reach us if you have any questions or concerns or comments for us.

It is getting hot out there, so everyone and their staff, please take precautions in the heat. * Wear loose, light-colored clothing when possible, along with a hat. * Gradually build up to heavier work and more strenuous tasks. * Take breaks in a cooler area when possible, and remove any outer protective gear you’re wearing. * Avoid overexerting yourself during peak temperature periods (midday). * Drink liquids frequently, even if you don’t feel thirsty—at least 8 ounces every 20 to 30 minutes. Choose water, fruit juice or sports drinks and stay away from liquids containing caffeine, which can dehydrate you.

Once again, it is an honor to serve on the AAA board and continue to meet more and more auctioneers in our state. I really believe we have one of the best states full of great auctioneer!

Mark Your Calendars & Join Us in February 2019 Dear AAA members: If you attended the AAA convention this past February, you should have experienced one of the best in several years. I hope you will encourage your fellow members to attend the next one. Your Board of Directors worked very hard to put it all together for you. We realize there were a few problems, but all in all it was a great success.

Although we are months away from the next convention, planning is already underway. The location will again be the Hotel Hot Springs the first weekend in February. All events will be held in the hotel ( no need to go the convention center).

Also remember Hot Springs is a great place to bring the whole family during the convention. There are many family oriented things to do. Such as shopping, spas, museums, horse races, Magic Springs Park, Garven Woodland Gardens and much more.

Your board members are now looking for speakers, topics of interest, ideas and suggestions from you to make our convention even better. It takes input from all members to make our association stronger.

That’s when it’s not just about the money.

Best part about being a member of AAA: The wealth of experience that’s available to you if you just ask.

How/when: Several years ago my wife, Rhonda and I started going to auctions for fun. We went to most of David Stafford’s auctions because they were close to home. As time went on I begin to help ring for him just to keep busy. Soon David would call to see if were coming to the next sale. Maybe to get me to help or because my wife had become a good customer.

But soon I was helping with setup and ringing. David and I seemed to work together really well. After sometime he encouraged me to get my auctioneers license so that I could give him breaks during the sale. So in 2012, I did just that, at the age of sixty I started a new career.

I have not had any formal training, other than watching,listening, and helping other veteran auctioneers such as David Stafford, Kenny McGrew, John Saugey and others. I have always been blessed with a can do attitude and the confidence to try anything even at my age.

The great thing is I’m not doing this to make my living,oh don’t get me wrong the money comes in handy but I really love the business and the people involved.

My wife and I own and operate three businesses in our retirement, Nick’s Auction Sales, Rhonda’s Estate Sales and Caddo Valley Flea Market. By doing this we can offer people three options to help with their situation.

Continuing Education & Upcoming Events Hello Arkansas Auctioneers! We had a fine group of folks in attendance at our Harrison continuing education class on May 14th. James Nelson from Waldron drove the furthest, over 3 ½ hours, to attend this session and won a bright red AAA stainless water bottle for his efforts! James joined AAA last month and is eager to get involved. Also, we drew names for an AAA membership from participants who had never been a member and the winner was Shawn Curtis from Lincoln, Arkansas.

If you know Shawn or James give them a call and welcome them to AAA. Also, I want to say THANK YOU to Ken Warner for driving over from Springdale to help with registration and sign in. The next CE class will be held in Jonesboro on Monday, June 18th. Our guest speaker is Junior Staggs, from Tennessee, the very man who took a pie in the face at our February convention to help raise funds for a cure for PSP! Junior runs his own auction company, Bid Last And Win, is a real estate broker, owner/instructor of Bid Calling Boot Camp and a champion Tennessee auctioneer.

Finally, our last CE class for 2018 will be held in Little Rock on Monday, September 17th. We are excited to bring back Mike Brandly, from Ohio, as our lead speaker.

Mike is president of Brandly & Associates, Inc. auction firm, a real estate auctioneer, executive director and instructor at The Ohio Auction School and is an expert witness in Auction Law & Customary Practices. Mike will be leading a session on Auction Law and he will specifically cover Arkansas Law as it applies to auctioneers. This class is a must for any auctioneer in any specialty or line of business. You will have the opportunity to ask lots of questions during this very interactive session. Make plans to attend today. Take advantage of early online registration at our AAA website.
