BY DAVID MCGLOTHLIN The Daily Wildcat

The Arizona Board of Regents voted unanimously in approval for the merger of the University of Arizona Health Network and its affiliates into Banner Health and its affiliates on Wednesday at the Old

Main Silver and Sage Room. “I see this as an incredible change, not just for the [UA] and for Banner Health, one of the consistently top-five ranked health networks in the nation,” UA President Ann Weaver Hart said. “It’s a wonderful confluence of a world-class medical school, a second medical school and

a world-class health network that will shape the future of academic medicine for the 21st century.” UAHN was established in 2011 with the goal of creating a statewide top-tier academic health center for Arizona. However, it lacked the capital to renovate facilities, expand outpatient

Startup Weekend, a worldwide competition for entrepreneurs, returns to Tucson this weekend for its first-ever faculty- and student-exclusive event at the UA. While the competition was in Tucson in September 2014, it wasn’t exclusive to the university. Startup Weekend will take place over three days in the Science-Engineering Library starting Friday at 5 p.m. The event is described by the InnovateUA website as a place “where students and professionals from the community representing all disciplines come together for an incredible 54-hour competition.” The website also describes the event as a combination of a hackathon and business competition. InnovateUA, the host of the event, is “fostering a studentled culture of innovation and entrepreneurship,” according to the InnovateUA website. “You don’t have to go in with an idea,” said Nick Morin, director of InnovateUA. “If you just want to go to meet people or join a team, that’s definitely an option. Having an idea can sometimes be daunting. We’re not asking anyone to come in with a full-on business plan and proposal. The mentors, judges and speakers coming are all entrepreneurs

The benefits of the Mediterranean diet will be the primary topic of discussion at the 2015 Research Frontiers in Nutritional Sciences Conference hosted by the department of nutritional sciences in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences from Wednesday to Friday. Melanie Hingle, assistant professor for the department of nutritional sciences, said that even though it is called a diet, the Mediterranean diet is actually a dietary pattern. “It’s not a strict diet in the sense if you’re thinking calories and servings,” Hingle said. “This

At the ASUA Senate meeting on Wednesday, the Student Health Advocacy Committee asked the senate to reallocate lost funds for its eighth annual Spring Break Safety Fair. The event, which will be held March 4 on the UA Mall between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., is a collaboration between SHAC and the University of Arizona Police Department. Stephanie Kha, director of SHAC, gave a presentation to the senate about the Safety Fair SHAC has been planning since July. “The purpose of the event is to provide all … UA students with a very resourceful and valuable fair,” Kha said. “It’s going to have information on travel resources and personal safety practices that they can utilize during their spring break.” Most students travel to Mexico, given Arizona’s location, so SHAC has invited travel agencies from Mexico, specifically the Department
