EVENING RACING

FRIDAY

Official Racecard - £3.50

23 JUNE 2023

As a leading distributor of horse feed, bedding and supplements in the greater GCC area, I am once again immensely proud to support the Jockey Club at Newmarket Racecourses for the 2023 season.

Newmarket is credited as being where thoroughbred racing first started which is why so many from every corner of the world assemble and appreciate The Rowley Mile and The July Course.

As ever, the enthusiasm of Sophie Able and her team at Newmarket translates into a top class service for Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff and for that we are deeply grateful.

I would like to wish all those visiting Newmarket throughout the 2023 season, the very best of luck.

Have a wonderful day at the races today.

www.albasti.com

A warm welcome back to the July Course for 2023, for the first of twenty fixtures that take place across June, July and August.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank House of Cavani, the European Breeders Fund and Racing TV for their support of this evening’s card There is an interesting two year old race to look forward to, along with some competitive handicaps

We look forward to our first Summer Saturday tomorrow, celebrating the start of the summer season here at the July Course. This is a fabulous day out for all the family to enjoy, with plenty of free entertainment, including a bouncy castle and helter skelter in the Garden enclosure, and a silent disco in the Marwell Bar.

Next week, our Newmarket Nights series of music fixtures kicks off, with Bastille performing live after racing on Friday 30th June Throughout the summer, you can also enjoy performances from Craig David, Hacienda Classical, Olly Murs and McFly Tickets for all these events selling fast, and available through our website, www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/newmarket

The Boodles July Festival, which is the highlight of our summer, is just three weeks away. From Thursday 13th July to Saturday 15th July, and including our annual summer Ladies’ Day, the Festival Friday and July Cup Day, this year is proving as popular as ever Packed full of Group racing, with the feature the Group One July Cup on the Saturday, there is something for everyone to enjoy both on and off the track. Join us for unrivalled fashion, food and entertainment, but tickets are selling fast, so be sure to book yours soon

Across the season, we would like to thank the European Breeders Fund for their contributions to prize money and Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai for their continued sponsorship of our Owners and Trainers facility.

I do hope you have a very enjoyable evening with us, and I wish all the horses and their connections the very best of luck.

Warm wishes,

Racing returns to the picturesque July Course for an action packed summer of entertainment on and off the track!

BETTING EXPLAINED

Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

PLAY SMARTER

It’s not hard to have misgivings where GREG THE GREAT is concerned, given his yo-yo-like profile. That said, ifableto bounce back from a low-keyrecent effort and reproduce something akintothe form he showed at Newbury last month, he will have every chance in this open-looking contest. Chief’s Will didn’t do much wrong returned to turf last time and he looks a threat, while Dashing Dick and Lost In Time both make some appeal from an each-way perspective.

PLAY SMARTER

QUEEN’S REIGN caught the eye on debut at Haydock, green and having running left at the finish. She’s likely to quite a big step forward and can get the better on Alnoory Star, who should also come on for her encouraging debut. Faayzah, in particular, and Giudecca are interesting newcomers and can’t be discounted in an interesting race of its type.

A fair bit of potential on show but it’s hard to ignore the claims of CLAN CHIEFTAIN who looked a good prospect when going in at Chepstow and can successfully concede weight all round. THE JACKLER: Following its run on 10/6/2023 it was reported that the horse was slow to leave the stalls.

GOLDEN MAVERICK: Following its run on 20/5/2023 it was reported that the horse was denied a clear run late-on.

ISLAND STAR is thriving under the expert tutelage of Roger Varian and can bag a second success on the back of his fast-finishing Sandown third last time. Never Ending looks to have better days ahead of him and is feared most now going handicapping. In-form pair Mighty River and Feud complete the shortlist.

DECLARED RUNNERS 6 2022: NIZAAKA (FR) 4 8 6 Benoit de la Sayette 11-8 (Jane Chapple-Hyam) 5 ran Hood worn by No 2. Tongue Strap worn by No 5.

Stewards Note:

VIA CORONE: Following its run on 25/5/2023 it was reported that the horse hung left handed.

Probable S.P’s: 10-3 American Belle (IRE), 4-1 Pastiche (GB), 9-2 Prepense (GB), 5-1 Nizaaka (FR), 11-2

Jumbeau (GB), 8-1 Via Corone (IRE)

PLAY SMARTER

This looks competitive, despite the small field The vote goes to JUMBEAU, who shaped with plenty ofencouragement on herfirst try at this trip and in a handicap on the Rowley Mile, and she is on a good mark given her exploits in listed company last season. Pastiche brings potential to this handicap debut and is feared most, albeit only marginally as the hat-trick seeking American Belle and Prepense are also appealing candidates.

PLAY SMARTER

MARY OF MODENA looks the safest option. The ground was testing when she scored at Windsorin May but she won on a variety ofground-types in 2022 and herrecent third on the all-weather at Lingfield was a decent effort. Next on the list is Annie Maher, who did pretty well all things considered on her first run in a handicap at Salisbury and she is now 3lb lower in the weights. Four Adaay will also be a threat if she puts her best foot forward.
