Our knowledge throughout the entire value chain combined with our flexible approach allows us to satisfy current and adapt to future market needs through innovation, investment and technical excellence. At Ardo, we are always developing new products in response to market needs and trends.
Comprehensive product knowledge
In our continual search to improve both our existing products and the range that we offer, we run extensive field trials each year that allow us to take full advantage of our geographical and climatic spread to develop new products and new varieties for our customers.
Local worldwide approach
With sales offices in Europe and North-America, there’s always a member of our sales team close to hand, to react quickly to local market requirements.
Sustainable partnership
Ardo supports long-term relationships with our growers, our suppliers and our customers, which we believe offer stability for all parties which is necessary to provide the confidence for sustainable investments.
We are working hard to develop truly sustainable ways of growing our crops and producing our products that consider the crop’s requirements, the activities of our farmers and the demands of our customers.
16 production, packing & distribution sites in 7 countries
Ardo’s production, packing & distribution sites are located from north to south and from east to west in world’s most fertile crop growing regions. The close proximity of our factories to our crops is one of our key strengths and ensures that only minutes are lost between harvest and locking in the product’s natural goodness in our freezers.
Quality is the cornerstone of our corporate strategy
Field management
Ardo works together with over 3,500 farmers to grow 87 crops on 49,000 ha in 9 countries
We produce frozen vegetables that are grown with the maximum respect for nature and the environment. Therefore we work pro-actively towards more sustainable agricultural production methods, whilst at the same time remaining commercially competitive. We strive to minimize the impact of our growing and processing activities on the environment, and we ensure at the same time the personal safety and life quality of our farmers and employees.
This approach is summarized in our MIMOSA-program, Minimum Impact with Maximum Output Sustainable Agriculture.
Production
Our aim is to deliver our ingredients in the same state that Mother Nature intended: fresh, nutritious and picked at peak ripeness in the crop’s natural season. Applying integrated crop management and production techniques, and focussing on quality assurance and high ethical standards, we control the product from seed to customer.
We installed in our factories new state-of-the-art packing lines with innovative technology for metal detection and colour-, shape- and density sorting.
Quality
Product quality is one of the cornerstones of our business. We employ agronomists and technicians who work 24/7 to ensure that our products arrive at your site in specification and to the highest quality standard.
Our agricultural departments care for the crops until they are delivered to our processing sites where our Quality Assurance teams take over and monitor raw materials, production processes, product selection and packing.
Our objective is to supply our customers with products that meet the highest safety and quality standards. Our production sites are certified to internationally recognised standards (BRC / IFS) that in turn provide a platform for the more demanding Ardo group standards.
Our Quality Managers play an active role at all stages of production and we encourage them to become experts in each of the crops that they are involved with. To acquire this knowledge they accompany our agronomists on field visits and undertake training in the production processes in our factories.
Our Quality Managers use their ‘Complete Product Knowledge’ each day. Their efforts help to build customer confidence and add value to our customers’ reputation by delivering the quality required that we are renowned for.
MIMOSA: striving for sustainable vegetable, fruit and herb production
Ardo works closely with growers’ associations to match products to consumer wishes. The growers’ associations work with Ardo to continuously develop more sustainable cultivation methods. This ensures that Ardo produces fresh frozen vegetables with the greatest possible respect for nature and the environment. Together we strive every day to carry out the MIMOSA programme.
MIMOSA stands for Minimum Impact and Maximum Output Sustainable Agriculture.
What does this mean?
Minimum impact
We try to make optimum use of all resources: seeds, herbicides and pesticides, fertilizers, irrigation water, etc.
Maximum output
To continue realising this ambition in the long term, we must pay attention to staying competitive and strive for maximum output in both volume and quality.
Sustainable agriculture
In everything we do, we consider the impact on the environment and people. We do all in our power to minimise any impact.
A few examples
• The agronomists select the growers who will cultivate the right crops in the right soil, in order to ensure that our production facilities receive the desired quantities with the right quality at the right time.
• The seed for the vegetables is selected and purchased by the agronomists. By selecting and sowing only the best seed, we significantly improve the chances of a successful crop.
• Large-scale field trials are carried out to determine the optimal sowing density for major crops.
• Fertilizers and irrigation need to be matched to the needs of the plants, which is why soil samples and moisture level measurements are important.
• The agronomists and growers regularly inspect the fields for weeds, diseases and insect infestations. Where necessary, plant protection products are used judiciously.
MIMOSA+: building healthy soils and resilient ecosystems
Climate change, soil degradation, and water stress are putting increasing pressure on agriculture around the world. At Ardo, we’re taking a clear stand with a regenerative approach through our MIMOSA+ programme. It’s not just a promise — it’s a hands-on commitment, implemented directly in the field and in close partnership with our growers.
MIMOSA+ is rooted in the belief that a healthy soil is the foundation of sustainable farming. Together with our growers, we invest in techniques that enhance soil structure, boost biodiversity, and optimise water use, such as increasing humus levels, using cover crops, planting flower strips, and reducing reliance on synthetic fertilisers.
Our approach combines on-the-ground expertise with innovative techniques. We share knowledge, run demonstration trials, and support our farming partners in applying solutions tailored to their region and crop rotation. Together, we’re working towards a system where soil health, yield, and ecological balance go hand in hand.
In the long term, MIMOSA+ aims to make our crops more resilient to extreme weather conditions This leads to more stable yields for our factories and ensures consistent product quality
With MIMOSA+, we show that innovation and ecology can reinforce each other. It’s a long-term vision built on farming practices that restore and strengthen the natural environment, rather than deplete it.
5 pillars of impact
MIMOSA+ goes beyond the crop itself—we aim to build a resilient farming system by focusing on five key pillars: living soils, cover crops, biodiversity, smart water use, and fertilisation. Together, these pillars form the backbone of our sustainable cultivation strategy.
Living soils
Healthy soil starts with the right level of humus. We strengthen soil structure by building up organic matter and preventing compaction. This leads to improved water retention, better root development, and greater resilience to extreme weather conditions.
Cover crops
Between harvests, fields are kept covered with a mix of cover crops. This protects the soil, prevents erosion, stimulates soil life, and helps retain nutrients. Our goal is to maintain soil cover for at least 200 days a year.
Biodiversity
Growers set aside space on their fields for flower strips, hedgerows, or other ecological features. These attract pollinators and natural predators, support the surrounding landscape, and help restore the natural balance in and around the field.
Smart water use
Healthy soils retain water more effectively. We support growers with tools like tensiometers and soil moisture sensors to ensure irrigation is targeted and efficient. This helps prevent waste and strengthens our resilience to drought.
Smart fertilisation
Through soil analysis, we tailor fertilisation to the actual needs of the crop. By incorporating legumes and encouraging natural nitrogen fixation, we reduce both reliance on synthetic fertilisers, and the associated CO₂ emissions.
Increased biological activity, organic matter, and better soil structure support healthy soils and improve resilience to extreme weather.
Cover crops improve soil structure, retain nutrients in the soil, and help prevent erosion.
Ardo Shine
Ardo challenges the existing high levels of operational hygiene across the company’s 20 European production sites, where it freezes, packs and stores frozen vegetables, fruit and herbs. Starting with an investigation into areas where potential improvements could be made – guided by an external consultant conversant with EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group) principles, Ardo established a staged, multi-dimensional approach to introduce targeted changes across each of its production units.
The SHINE project (‘food Safety and Hygiene IN Evolution’) sets the bar even higher for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and everyday operational hygiene at the Ardo production sites. The project began with research into potential areas of improvement and resulted in a phased, multi-dimensional approach with proposed reforms within each production unit.
Together with the Ardo Group engineers and quality department, the site managers, local engineers and quality departments, we assessed the set-up and operational activities of the different sites as the basis of this project. At Ardo Group level, a Food Technologist was appointed to coordinate all activities pertaining to cleaning, waste processing and monitoring, with the first assignment being the development of a microbial database of all the products on the production and packing lines in all Ardo factories.
Another initiative is coaching Ardo’s building and material suppliers in the principles of hygienic design and the need for better accessibility to ensure proper cleaning.
The result? Currently, all food-related engineering projects and investments in infrastructure (floors, walls, ceilings, ventilation) and machine parks within the Ardo Group are being carried out according to the established hygienic principles.

Ardo Pure
‘PURE’ stands for ‘Prevent, Uncover, Reduce and Eliminate foreign bodies’. With PURE, Ardo wants to do everything within its power to prevent foreign objects ending up in the products. Our ambition: end products that are 100% contamination-free.
Detecting and removing foreign objects is a top priority during production and the packing of vegetables, fruit and herbs. However, prevention is better than curing. This means inspections in the field and inspection of harvesting machinery are crucial.
Transportation of pure raw materials to our factories in special metal containers also prevents contamination. In the factories, the processing equipment is regularly inspected and maintained. We have excellent washing equipment and high quality detection and removal equipment. Optical sorting machines, magnets, metal detectors, X-ray detectors and more – the range of PURE instruments is very diverse and extensive.
The right machines at the right locations, an expert approach carried out by specially trained employees, in combination with the right preventive measures: this is Ardo’s recipe for keeping products contaminationfree. The Ardo site managers and agricultural, production and maintenance teams are constantly working to improve this process. Through their efforts, the PURE project will be given an extra boost.
The right machines in the right place. High quality detection and elimination equipment.
Correct use of the plant protection products. Inspection of the field, harvester and transport.

Fresh frozen? Of course!
Perhaps you do not immediately think of fresh frozen vegetables, fruit or herbs, but they are a great choice. Fresh frozen vegetables, herbs and fruit have a major advantage: they retain most of their nutritional value because they are frozen very quickly after harvesting. That makes their colour, texture and taste richer than those of fresh vegetables, and they also contain more vitamins.
Ardo’s fresh frozen vegetables, fruit and herbs have consistently high quality, and they save a lot of time and energy in the kitchen. They are pre-washed and precut, and only need to be cooked briefly (steam or boil) prior to use. What’s more, they are easily portionable – just prepare what you need, and put the rest back in the freezer. The perfect way to avoid food waste.
Ardo leaves nothing to chance to ensure that we can supply our FoodService customers with high-quality vegetables, fruit and herbs all year round, so they can serve delicious, attractive and vitamin-rich meals.
Fresh frozen vegetables, herbs and fruit: bursting with vitamins!
Thanks to our broad range of fresh frozen products, you benefit from vitamin-rich vegetables and fruit all year round. That is a significant advantage of fresh frozen produce over fresh produce. The nutritional value of all fruit and vegetables gradually declines from the time it is harvested, so it’s easy to imagine how much the vitamin content of fresh produce imported from other continents has dropped by the time you buy it. This is especially true of seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables, such as fresh fruit and vegetables imported from sunnier climes in the winter or beans imported from distant Kenya. The long transport time over water and land before the product reaches your kitchen causes much of the nutritional value to be lost.
By contrast, fresh frozen fruit and vegetables are frozen directly after harvest in the country of origin. Freezing ensures maximum preservation of the nutritional content. That enables you to buy top-quality seasonal products any time you wish. For example, in the winter you can find vitamin-rich and tasty fresh frozen strawberries or garden peas in the freezer compartment at attractive prices.

Sweetcorn: a top product at Ardo
Sweetcorn is well known for its sweet flavour and high sugar content. And children love it. Ardo produces sweetcorn in its factories in Spain and in France. Here’s a brief account of our visit to the French factory.
Sweetcorn is sown from the beginning of April until the beginning of July. This sweet variety likes warmth and humidity. The Landes region, south of Bordeaux, is ideal for growing sweetcorn. The sandy soil is irrigated continuously. Furthermore, the temperature is 28° to 30°C on average during the growing cycle.
Regular laboratory analyses on seeds and plants during the growing phase ensure that the product is GMO-free and fully meets harvest specifications.
Processing in the plant
Once the plants are fully grown, harvesters carefully remove the ears of each plant. A truck then transports the ears, as quickly as possible, to the factory, guaranteeing swift freezing to lock in the flavour and nutrients. Special machines remove the leaves from the ears, which are then sorted manually and electronically by length. Whole (13 cm), half cobs or 1/4 corn cobs are selected manually. The remaining ears are sent for the production of kernel corn. A machine automatically cuts the kernels free from the husk. The rest of the production continues in the same way as with other products such as peas, i.e. washing, optical sorting, blanching and freezing. Regular checks guarantee constant production quality throughout the process.
Interesting facts
• Maize was grown in Central America 3000 years ago. It was introduced into Europe by Christopher Columbus.
• Sweetcorn is not only delicious, it also contains healthy ingredients, such as polyunsaturated fatty acids (46%) and saturated fatty acids (15%). Furthermore its kernels contain vitamin B, magnesium and many important fibres.
• Sweetcorn kernels lend themselves to all sorts of vegetable combinations, like omelettes, soups, salads, fish dishes etc. Corn cobs are mainly prepared in the oven with a pat of butter, or on the barbecue in summer.

Ardo ‘Fines Herbes’ are carefully selected, quick frozen herbs and pungent flavour enhancers. Their taste, aroma and colour are fresh and distinctive, like the products offered ‘fresh’. Because Ardo freezes them fresh and loose, they don’t stick together, making them easy to portion. With the delicious choices of individual and mixed herbs, the Ardo ‘Fines Herbes’ range covers all cooking styles.
Welcome to the Ardo herb garden, open all year round!
All our organic vegetables and herbs are grown on fields selected with care and prepared for organic cultivation. From harvest to processing and packing, the organic vegetables and herbs are isolated from standard produce to avoid cross contamination. All Ardo organic products are packed under the strict guidelines of the various organic bodies around the world – we impose the toughest version to ensure compliance.
