Review the Architectural History of the Former Residence of Li Kwoh-Ting

Li Kwoh-Ting(K.T.Lee)was a Taiwanese economist and politician best known as the "Godfather of Technology" in Taiwan. In 1971, Li Kwoh-Ting moved into the residence because of the head of the economic minister, and became the third resident of the building after 1945. After his death, the residence was designated as an official cultural property in 2002. The residence was originally built in 1935 by the Ministry of Communication during the Japanese occupation. The Archives of Office of Taiwan GovernorGeneral, " The historical materials of the official residence project attached to the new Taipei Telephone Building", records the history and background of the construction of the official residence of Hsing Machi. The residence is the only remaining case of the eight buildings, which, together with the historical archives, confirms the development of the high-level official residence in Japanese period. Based on the first-hand historical materials of the Japanese period, this paper not only shows the architectural form, construction, materials of the officials' residence, but also re-narrates the history of the Former Residence of Li Kwoh-Ting.

李國鼎故居原為日治時代遞信部所屬的高二種官舍，興建 於1935年，由遞信部專門負責營繕業務的庶務課所設計， 建築坪數為五十五坪，基地面積為三百坪，剛好是第二種 官舍最大的規模。官舍的興建緣起，係因「台北電話局」

預定興建的基地上（書院町二丁目二番地），原有官舍四 棟八戶官舍即將拆除改建，為了補足官舍拆除以後的住宿 空缺，因此選擇了李國鼎故居現址所在地幸町一百五十番 地，另外建造八戶高二種官舍提供使用。

1971年，李國鼎資政因職務關係入住故居，成為戰後的第 三任居住者。1973年間，由於大風雨侵襲，導致東南側屋

頂受損嚴重，也因而促成了故居生命週期最大幅度的改建 工事 拆除東北側部分木構屋架，以增建李國鼎夫婦二 人的主臥室與附屬浴廁，2002 年古蹟指定階段的故居建築

樣貌便是由此而來。今日，儘管期間曾新增建西側二層樓 行政展館，並於2015 年間進行故居的局部整修，不過大抵 仍維持2002年時故居良好的建築外貌。（圖一）

2002年，就在李國鼎過世的兩年後，他的故居受到老舊眷 舍收回處理政策的影響而計畫出售。後來在台北市文化局 長龍應台及多位企業界人士的催生下，將故居指定為台北 市市定古蹟。此棟建築充分見證一生奉獻給台灣經濟及科

技界的李國鼎先生之歷史意義，以及總督府幸町高二種官 舍的建築史意義。

2003年，北科大受北市文化局委託，執行「市定古蹟李國 鼎故居調查研究計畫」，二十年後，因應 2016年文資法修 法內容修訂及新的需要，2022 年北市府再次委託北科大執 行「直轄市定古蹟李國鼎故居修復及再利用計畫」。拜各 項歷史檔案資料數位化之賜，故居建築的身世資訊得到更 全面的更新，不僅重新發掘出二十年前未見的原有建築圖 說，也藉由許多史料的新發現，修正了日本時的居住者與 戰後行政長官公署接收後的第一代居住者身世。

當年，為了了解故居建築原貌，曾透過建物現況的形式進 行新舊比對，大致釐清了1973 年大改造前後階段，有關構 造、建築形式間的構成與差異關係。儘管如此，由於故居 建築一些部位遭到封閉，或是拆除、增建，導致原有建築 形貌及構件佚失，譬如西南側原有台所及次入口玄關，東 北側原有家族廁所及上部木構架屋頂等，都是無法充分掌 握與確認的部位。為了了解原貌的情形，研究過程中仍舊 依據現存構件形式，與仕口形式、尺寸等實體證據，試圖 推論遞信部幸町官舍原有建築形式，因有〈記李國鼎故居 保存調查研究過程中的原貌考證工 作（2005）〉一文的出

而就在調查研究計畫進行到最後階段時，幸運地從南投國 史館台灣文獻館所藏的「總督府檔案」中，找到1935年「台 北電話局新營工事附屬官舍新建工事」的圖說資訊。這一 份塵封多年史料的出土，其實是在非常偶然的機緣下發現 的，簡直就是天上掉下的禮物。試想，「台北電話局」的 改建工事，為何會跟「官舍」的新建聯繫在一塊呢！ 當時僅是出於了解並收集總督府檔案中有關日式宿舍、建 築圖面資料的想法，邀請二位居住於台中的學生（王毓祥 與黃瀛生）前往南投一起幫忙爬梳，竟然就這麼發現了幸 町官舍最重要的圖說與史料 〈台北電話局新營ニ伴フ 土地建物管理換ニ關スル一件書類〉。只是，當時光碟片 印回的資料僅有官舍的配置、平面、瓦斯及設備配線圖， 以及「仕樣說明書」而已，也確實釐清了許多困擾已久的 疑問。（圖二）

對照今日，在開放的數位資料庫協助下，1935年台灣總督 府檔案〈台北電話局新營ニ伴フ土地建物管理換ニ關スル 一件書類〉附件圖說中 ，原來還附有十餘張有關官舍附 屬工事的各項圖說，如下表。

持續建造的菁寮聖十字架堂

The Ongoing Construction of Jingliao Holy Cross Church

Between the 1950s and the 1970s, it was the flourishing period of Catholic mission inTaiwan. During this period, Jingliao Holy Cross Church was established as an important mission base in the agricultural distribution area. Gottfried Böhm started the design in 1955, after multiple design adjustments and revisions, the project was officially completed in two phases spanning five years.

However, over the decades of use, with the changes of time, functional needs, and the challenges of the climate, the building has undergone many repairs and changes. In 2013, Paul Böhm, the son of Gottfried Böhm, was invited to Taiwan. After inspecting his father's work, he proposed an architectural plan for renovation and expansion, which is expected to be implemented.

The ongoing construction of the Jingliao Holy Cross Church, not only presents the old and new needs of the building itself but also reflects the various changes brought about by the passage of time. The church traces every step taken throughout post-war Taiwan’s society and the architectural profession over time.

一、前言

馬太福音第18章20節，曾提到耶穌對門徒說：「因為無 論在哪裡，有兩三個人奉我的名聚會，那裡就有我在他們 中間。」如果聚會的地點不是重點，而與神同在關鍵也不 在場所，那從古至今這些教堂的建造又是為了什麼？本研 究希望由1955年開始建造的菁寮聖十字架堂，對於其建造 過程的解析、完工之後的觀察、以及現今計畫的方向，試 圖去找到這個教堂在這樣的過程當中，其所，也期待可以

藉由菁寮聖十字架堂建造的研究，更深刻的去討論教堂建 造的真正目的。

菁寮聖十字架堂的這個計畫起源於德國方濟會的楊森神父

（Erich Jansen），他從1954 年以新營為基地，進到台南

的北部區域開始傳教，由於福音傳播的成效非凡，他很快 的決定應該在菁寮設置傳教站，一方面可提供住宿、生活、 以及訓練等空間，再加上一個相對較大的會堂，成為菁寮 區域眾人聚集的禮拜堂。在楊森神父主導的幾個教堂新建 案中，由於菁寮聖十字架堂規模較大，機能也比較複雜， 所以他找了之前在德國科隆的好朋友戈特弗瑞德．波姆 （Gottfried Bohm，以下簡稱波姆），希望能夠打造一個具 有地標性的教堂，也成為台南地區向北傳教的基地。

由於資金不足，教堂的興建分為兩期進行，所以波姆從 1955 年開始提案、設計、並進行細部發展，雖然無法親 自來到台灣，但是從陸陸續續的圖面，我們可以看見他到 1960 年完工之前，仍然有塔頂的細部設計圖寄到台灣，努 力讓設計更為準確。而這套包含初步設計圖、細部設計圖、

鋼筋詳圖、結構計算書等圖面，也在台灣經由台灣鋁業的 鄭逸群總工程師、高雄許建築師（名未詳）、楊嘉慶建築 師等人的協助，進行圖面轉譯、施工圖繪製以及施工協調 等繁瑣的在地工作，在1960年10月17日完工進行獻堂 典禮。

建造的過程中，建築師的圖面要落實成真正的空間，必然 面臨許多意見回饋或者是窒礙難行，所以圖面上的修正或 者施工上的改變，都紀錄了想像與真實的來回辯證，其內 容將在第二章討論。完工之後，隨著時代的轉變，天主教 的傳教進展與狀態都產生很大的改變，使用會堂的想法各 異，再加上缺乏專業意見的維修整理，就讓這教堂空間持 續變化成如今的狀態，其中的過程將簡述於第三章。第四 章則是2013 年波姆的兒子保 羅（Paul Bohm）所提出的草 案，這是一個恢復原有設計思考，又以增建來展望未來的 建造計劃。最後一章則以這個計畫的看法，回溯一連串的 建造過程，希望能帶出這個教堂建造的核心理念。

眾建議他們：「不要效法這個世界，只要心意更新而變化。」 對於基督徒而言，這樣的啟示來自於神的更新，是改變自 己的看法、想法、做法的動力，不但會帶離自己認知上的 窠臼，也會讓自己勇於展開下一個改變。而波姆面對楊森 神父的委託，剛好在經歷父喪和撐起事務所的時刻，一個 嶄新且遙遠的契機，同時也面臨資金、環境條件、氣候、 施工技術的挑戰，波姆長達四、五年不厭其煩的更改，深 化他的設計，擺脫原來專業上的框架，讓他的設計能夠落 地長成，成為這地的祝福。

2-1資金的限制

1955年，當波姆接到楊森神父的委託時，他已經知道這個 案子本身存在著限制條件，而資金短缺應該是碰到的第一 個挑戰，所以在其初步的想法當中，分期興建就已經主導 了這個設計的發展方向。因此在波姆的設計中，提供住宿、 生活、教學的類修道院機能，是以長方形條狀量體環繞在 基地的四周，而這部分是屬於第一期的工程；真正進行聖 事的教堂本體，彌撒聚會的禮拜堂、洗禮空間、小聖堂、 甚或是入口的鐘樓，則是以高低不同的塔型空間，相互脫 開與長條形量體對應著，而這個基本上量體型塑的態勢，

二、心意更新而變化的建造

TOTO GALLERY．MA 成立於1985年，是位於東京乃木坂

的建築藝廊。作為日本住宅設備製造商 TOTO 的文化活動 使用，今年是三十八週年。我從 2016 年開始擔任這家藝 廊的代表。畫廊的命名來自日本獨特的「ma-ai 間合い」

概念，它闡述了人、時間和空間之間感知到的、時空上的 間隔或之間的空隙。從外觀上看，它是一棟普通的辦公大 樓，三四層為藝廊，有兩個室內的藝廊空間和一個戶外中 庭。雖然只有兩百四十平方公尺的小藝廊，但是在室內、

戶外和室內之間穿梭，你可以體驗到豐富的身體感受。

（圖一）受到推動日本藝術界的建築師和設計師啟發， TOTO GALLERY．MA成為年輕創作者發表作品的場所。因 此，知名建築師安藤忠雄先生在四十多歲時成為了 TOTO GALLERY．MA 營運委員 會（Planning and Management Committee）的成員，委員會目的在於確保活動的公平性和 品質。從那時起，我們一直致力於從企業利益分離的中立 立場之建築文化。目前由藤忠雄先生擔任特別顧問，有四 位建築師和一位建築理論家擔任顧問。

自1985年十月開館以來，致力於成為能讓建築師自由展現 其特性的平台，由建築師自己設計展覽的呈現及內容，以 充分體現其理念和價值觀。除了舉辦展覽外，自1995年開

始，TOTO GALLERY‧MA與TOTO Publishing合作發行出 版品，結合其展覽和講座活動。每天都在煩惱自己應該成 為怎樣的建築師，我認為在這時候與建築師本人見面，聆 聽他真實的聲音，與他面對面是非常珍貴的經驗。我們相 信，人的人性和生活方式將成為他們的指導方針，並致力 於將建築師的聲音傳遞給世界。TOTO GALLERY．MA的使 命是使大家可以相遇，成為建築師各種思想分享的平台。 而在這個平台上，我們應該傳達什麼樣的信息呢？

「多樣性」、「同時代性（當代性）」和「普遍性」是我 們重視的三個方向。「多樣性」指的是在不偏向一種意識 形態的情況下展現的多種價值觀；「同時代性（當代性）」

則是關乎建築如何反映社會狀況，回應時代的訴求；而「普 遍性」意味著提出不隨時間而改變的價值觀，我們舉辦各 種建築師的展覽，展示各種建築師的思想。我相信展示這 樣一位建築師的面貌是我們的使命。

2013年，由印度建築師Bijoy Jain帶領的Studio Mumbai 舉辦了一場展覽。他們製作了一比一的家具和模型，透過 集裝箱運抵日本。Studio Mumbai 創造的所有建築都是由工 匠工作室手工製作的。然而，這些工匠大多來自貧窮的印

度村落，Bijoy先生教導他們 如何進行測量和取材，逐漸提 升了他們的能力，以至能夠設計建築，同時試圖讓工匠學 習生活技能，並返回家鄉，推廣建築技術至全印度。（圖 二至圖三）

2015年，藤本壯介的展覽「未來的未來」中，藤本先生說：

「創造建築就是播下未來的種子」。如果如此的話，提出 藤本先生尚未接觸過的，對未來建築的願景，此展覽透過 這樣的對話誕生了。展覽的第二層樓「建築無處不在」， 從概念模型到正式展出的模型，人們可以參觀各種模型， 漫步在藤本先生的建築影像森林中，工作人員更是帶來各

種日用品，試圖從中尋找建築的種子，使展覽充滿了幽默 感。（圖四至圖五）

2018年，舉 辦了平田晃久先生的展 覽「Discovering New」。這個展覽也在台北巡迴展出。展覽介紹了平田先生 試圖發現建築的新可能性，他認為重新發現建築是一種廣 泛定義的生命活動，提出了連接生活和建築的關鍵線索， 以及如何在生態系統中定位建築。（圖六）

2018年，田根剛舉辦了「Archaeology of the Future｜未來 的記憶」的展覽。田根先生是現居巴黎的建築師。此次展

我們對市場的想像是什麼？ 菜市場除了市場，還能是什麼？。

台南市的「新化果菜批發市場」的屋頂設 計了大面積的植栽觀景平台，並搭配波浪梯 田設計和環景步道，讓人們可以遠眺新化地 區的風景。設計者 MVRDV 團隊希望這個市 場不僅僅是一個交易場所，還能成為深入探 索「食農教育」的地方。

高雄「鼓山魚市場」，經趙建銘建築師團隊 的整修後成為高雄農漁精品展售中心和餐飲 休憩場所，並由南仁湖公司進行營運。建築 師以「透明盒子」為設計理念，保留原有歷 史面貌，並打造擁有 270 度環港海景特色， 高雄港市合一的環境教育在此昭然體現。 建於 1949 年的高雄「鹽埕第一公有零售 市場」，在 2022 年修繕改造後，成了一處既 有傳統攤商的溫暖專業，又有年輕人創意與 潮流感的青銀共市文青朝聖地。傳統市場最 美的部分就是客人與攤商間的互動，邱承漢 說，跟著太太逛菜攤，常常從太太跟老闆的 對話發現原來每個攤商都是一個料理超級顧 問。林光浩建築師則認為，鹽一市場改造後 的空間就像時尚伸展台，每位攤商和顧客都 是閃亮的模特兒，市場的未來希望能夠繼續 發展出屬於自己的特色之路。

這些案例告訴我們，除了購物和交易的場 所，「菜市場」還可以成為社區中心、文化 傳承、食農教育的場所以及環境保護的倡 導者。有的保留了原有的建築特色和歷史痕

跡，彰顯了文化遺產的價值；有的則將傳統 市場與現代設計相結合，為城市營造了一個 獨特的空間、食農教育的場域。於是，市場 成為人們體驗當地文化和傳統的地方，同時 也鼓勵不同文化之間的交流和理解。而在時 代更迭變化中，菜市場將如何地不同，而屬 於你的想像又是什麼呢？

Duncan Lewis

Experience

Graduated with distinction, from Ravensborne collage of art and design London, and Master of Design degree at the Royal Collage of art in London. He worked in Japan with architects Team Zoo and designer Shiro Kuramata, member of the Memphis groupe, founded by Ettore Sottsass. After returning to Europe, he became more involved within the field of architecture and urban design, working along side Jacque Hondelatte, Lacaton & Vassal, Edouard Francois and Francois Roche. In 2000 he obtained his degree in architecture, grace of his contribution made within the field of architecture. During the early 90’s he was one of the for runners in a movement proposing new forms in architecture, in relation to environmental design, seeking to deal with architectures not as objects, but to explore architectures as physical living environments. Exhibitions include at the Guggenheim New York, the centre George Pompidou, where numerous models and colleges have been integrated into the collection permanent. Other exhibitions venues include the Macba Barcelona, the Biennale of Venise “less asthetics more ethics”, Aedes Berlin, Sociopolis Valencia Spain. Shanghai China and Beirut Libenon and Bordeaux with James Wines and Geoffrey Bawa, ect......

A selection of key works include housing and apartment complexes in Jupilles- Montpellier -Bordeaux -Santa Cesarean Italy, teaching institutes in Norway, the City scholar Revin, Lascaux 4 Museum made in collaboration with Snohetta, University library in Bayonne, Sociopolise and Hyper Cataluna Spain, Ecotone Paris, reconversion of the industrial site Soissons and the city manifest in Mulhouse, which in 2022 received the distinction, project architectural remarkable of the 21st century.

Company Introduction：From 1983 to 1990, the founder “ Mao, Shen-Chiang ” was the head of Shih Ao garment company, and cooperated with the Japan’s company. Because of the business, he usually needed to go to Japan, so started interesting in architecture.

In 1991, he decided to run Shih Ao Corporation. Between 1997 and 1998, he visited and studied in Obayashi Corporation and Takenaka Corporation and focused on the tectonics of fair-faced concrete and architecture. In 1998, the Shih Ao Corporation was branched to “ Shih Ao fairfaced Concrete ” and “ Mao Shen-Chiang Architecture Studio ”, and keeps studying the matter and architectural design.

In recent years, Mao Shen-Chiang Studio and Shih Ao fairfaced Concrete have introduced digital tools to explore the variation for form-finding in architecture and rethought bout how to build them up by fair-faced concrete.

Our team has as many as 100 cases in Taiwan and more than 20 years experience in the field of fair-faced concrete. Our continuous efforts are making Taiwan's architecture more attractive in the world.
