R.:I'mafraidtheanswer tosocomprehensiveaquestionwillhavetobetoobrief tobeofmuchuse.
Episcopalian:
TheEpiscopaliansare simplyAmericanAnglicans whotookthatnamein 1776,whentheAmerican ColoniesdeclaredindependenceofEngland, Anglican:
TheAnglicanChurchcame intoexistenceasanational ChurchofEnglandin1534 whenHenryVIIIbroke awayfromtheCatholic Church.In1559,Elizabeth I,byan"ActofUniformity,"triedtocompeleveryoneinEnglandtoacceptthe nationalChurch, withthe outwardformofBishops, PriestsandDeaconsforits ministry, togetherwiththe teachingsandpracticesof theProtestantBookof CommonPrayer.
Congregational:
In1581,groupsofPuritanrebelsrefusedtoaccept Elizabeth,herStateChurch, herBishops,Priestsand Deacons,andtheBookof CommonPrayer.Theydeclaredthemselves"Independents,"saidtheybelievedintheBibleonly,and metinsmallassembliesfor prayers,hymnsandBiblereading.Theyheldthat eachlittlecongregationwas self-sufficient,andthatthere wasnoneedforanorganisedChurch.So,later,they becameknownasCongregationalists.
Baptist:
In1616aCongregationalistpreachernamedJohn Smyththoughthehaddiscoveredthatinfantbaptism iswrong,andthatonlyadult believerscanbebaptised. Hethereforefoundedthe BaptistChurchwhich,save forthisonepoint,differs littlefromCongregationalism.
