Visitingclergyincluded theRev.W.Bryan(Morawn),theRev.E.Perez, O.S.S.(NewNorcia),the Rev.J.Barden(Geraldton), theRev.P.Fitzgerald (Geraldton),theRev.B. Moloney(ThreeSprings) andtheRev.J.Kloss(Geraldton).
Theoccasionalsermon waspreachedbyFather Kloss,whotoldthethree Sistersthattheirswasa divinevocation,thatthey weretrulychosenbyOur Lordtogoforthandcarry HisGospelmessagetothe world.
Thecallwasnotareward ofmerit,butaproofof specialloveonOurLord's partforeachofthem,and theywereprivilegedtoreceivethecall.
Hecongratulatedthem onfollowingtheirvocation tothestageofvowing themselvesirrevocablyto God'sservice,andtheir parentsonthegenerosity withwhichtheyparted fromtheirchildrentogive themtoGod.
FatherKlosspointedout thesignificanceofthevows inwithdrawingtheheart fromattachmenttothe goods,fromthepleasuresandthehonoursofthe worldandmakingiteasierforthemtogivealltheir lovetoGod,Whohad choseneachofthem.
Assacrificewasthebadge ofalltruelove,andthe loveofGodwasthepurest lovepossibletothehuman heart,thesacrificesdemandedofreligiouswould begreaterthanthosedemandedbyalllesserloves.
ButOurLord,bychoos-ingthem,hadgiventhem arighttoHisspecialhelp incarryingouttheduties oftheirstate,andinaeceptingbravelyallthemerificeswhichitentailed.
Alltoosoonthefervour oftheirprofessionday wouldcomeupagainstthe routineofdailyliving,andtheywouldneedtorememberOurLord'swords:"You havenotchosenMe,butI havechosenyou"-words whichguaranteedtothem Hishelpinallthetrials anddifficultiesoftheir futurelife.
Iftheyremainedfaithful totheirtrustandreliedon Hisnever-failinghelpinalltheirneeds,theywould begladdened,whenthey !metHimfacetoface,by thoseotherwords:"Come yeblessedofMyFather, possesstheKingdompre- paredforyou."

Rome,Jan.26.-ThefirstgeneralcounciloftheChurchsince1870isexpectedto getunderwayinaboutayear,bringingbishopsherefromallovertheworld.HisHolinessPopeJohnXXIII,whointhethreemonthssincehiselectionhasrepeatedlyinvitedseparatedChristianstoreturntounity,announcedhisintentiontoconvokesuchon ecumenicalcouncilonthefeastoftheConversionofSt.Paul,thelastdayoftheChair ofUnityOctave.
ThePontiffrevealedhisdecisionprivatelyto17 cardinalswhoparticipatedwithhimatMassonthe feastattheBasilicaofSt.Paul-outside-the-Walls, whichtraditionholdstobetheburialplaceofthe ApostletotheGentiles.TheVaticanwhichmadethe Pope'sannouncementpublii,saidthatindecidingto holdsuchacouncil,PopeJohn'sthoughtsarenotonly ontheedificationofChristianpeoples,butalsointendedasaninvitationtotheseparatedChristian communitiesinsearchofunity.
Nodateforthecouncilwasmadeknownimmediately.Itwasbelieved,however,thatitwillbea yearbeforethenecessaryarrangementscanbemade indrawingupagendaforthecouncil'sworkandpreparingfortheinfluxofthecardinals,residential bishops,abbotsnulliusandothersentitledtovote, aswellasthoseinvitedtocometothecouncilas advisersorobservers.
Itwasalsorecalledthatthelastsuchecumenical assembly,theVaticanCouncil,whileitadjournedon October20,1870-followingtheoccupationofthe capitalofthepapalStatesbyItaly-wasnever closed.Itcould,therefore,besurmisedthatthe forthcomingcouncilmightbeacontinuationofthe unfinishedGeneralCounciloftheVatican.
TheVaticanCouncilwasthe20thsuchecumenical council-thefirstin325inNicaea,inpresent-day Turkey,condemnedtheArianheresyandformulated theNiceneCreed.Decreesonfaithandmorals issuedbyecumenicalcouncils,ifconfirmedbythe Pope,areinfallibleandbindingonCatholics.
Atthesametimeheannouncedhisintentionto conveneageneralcouncil,PopeJohnrevealedhe planstosummonasynodfortheDioceseofRome, andthatheintendstobringtheLatinRiteCodeof CanonLawuptodateandcompletethepromulgationofthecanonlawcodefortheOrientalChurch.
thecodehavebeenpromulgatedatintervalsduring thepastdecade.Thefifthandfinalparthasnotyet beenpublished.ThePontiffalsomadeitknownthat "theChurchintendstogivediocesesabetterecclesiasticalandjuridicalstructure."This,hesaid,isbe-, cause"herfirstconcernissouls."AVaticanrelease characterisedthePope'sdecisionstoholdadiocesan synod,toconvoketheecumenicalcouncil,andtobring canonlawuptodateas"threeeventsofthegreatest importance."
ThePaulinefeastchosenforthePope'spronouncementscameadayafteraspecialassemblyinRome commemoratingthe19thcentenaryofSt.Paul's EpistletotheRomans-whichstressestheoneness oftheMysticalBodyofChrist,andurgestheRomans to"followafterthethingsthatmakeforpeace,and safeguardthethingsthatmakeformutualedification."
AsthefeastofSt.Paul'sconversionbeganhere, evennatureappearedtoco-operateinannouncing thatsomethingmomentouswasabouttotakeplace. gatingearly.Variousgroupscarriedidentifying banners.Some,encouragedbythePope'srecentvisits ThelawfortheLatinRiteChurchcodifiedunderthetovariousRomeinstitutions,invitedhimto"Come initiativeofSt.PiusXwaspromulgatedbyBenedictSeeUs." PeterandPaulassymbolsoftheChurch'sunity, expressedhissorrowatattemptstobreakthisunity, andinvitedalltoreturntothatunitywhichhesaid willgivepeacebothinthesupernaturalandthe naturalorder.Finally,heinvitedthefaithfulto prayforthisintention.
PopeJohnbeganbyrecallingavisithemadeto Tarsus-St.Paul'shometown-20yearsago.Tellinghowhehadfoundthevillagealmostcompletely abandoned,withonlyonesmallCatholicchapelina privatehome,hepointedoutthatincontrast,St. PaulishonouredhereinRomeinfullglorytogether withSt.Peter,thePrinceoftheApostles.
ThissolemnunionofthetwoApostlesandthe honourshownthem,saidPeter'ssuccessor,is"avery clearindicationoftheferventconcordandofthe ardentprofessionofthefaithoftheChristianpeople."
Considerationofthisunity,hecontinued,leaves himinsorrowwhenheseesthesuccessofattempts atdestroyingtheunitywhichChristhasconceived as"asingleflockundertheguidanceofasingleshepherd."
ThePontiffthensaid:

Asimilarexperimentfor theover-twentygrouppro-ducedbarelyahundred peoplealthoughtheremust bemuchscopeforsucha dance.
Inthematterofsport, twotypesexist.Thosewho taketheirfootballortennis seriouslywillwanttomig- ratetotheclubswithgood organisationandfacilities, andtherearemanyofthese alreadyexisting. Themediocreplayeris interestedinagamefrom timetotime.Understandably,hedoesnottakeorga- nisationorregularattendancetooseriously;hedrifts inanddriftsout.

Andthenewspapersprintedeverythinggiventothem withoutablushandwithoutanapologytotheir readers.Needlesstosay thereaderslikewisetook everythingwithoutaprotest.
Theywillprotestatalot ofinsignificanttrivialities, butthiskindofbasicattackonmoralsgoesunopposed.
Anditisofferedasordinaryfaretoeverymember ofthefamily-fromthe youngstersoyoungitmeans nothing;onuptotheteenagerforwhomtheageof nube,tyisopeningup troublingbutenchanting visionsofunexpectedappeal,forwhomitmeans "verything;onanduptothe (perhaps)boredmiddleagertowhomitmeansnot somuch(perhaps).
