Nothing,however,would hehavedone,nosuccesswas tobeexpectedwithoutthe faithfulco-operationof scoresofdevotedpriests, brothersandsisters;no seminary,nochurches,no schoolsandcolleges,nohosandorphanages,no CatholicPressshouldthey witnessthatdaywithoutthe unstintedgenerosityofall thepeopleofPerth..

TheVicarofChristhad alwaysbeenpresentin Perthfromtheverybegin- ning,hecontinued,inthe personsofthosevaliantmissionarieswhomHesentfrom theIslandofSaintshereto WesternAustraliatominis-
tertothespiritualneedsof thefirstCatholicsettlersin thisreallybeautifulpartof theContinentoftheSouthern Cross.
Itfelluponhimtohave thegreathonourandresponsibilitytorepresentthePope inAustralia,andthroughhis persontheywereverynear totheHolyFather.They shouldnotthinkofHisHolinessonlyastheSupreme HeadoftheChurchsurrounded,asheis,bythat splendourandglorywhich isrightlyduetohismost exaltedoffice;theyshould notseeonlythehaloofsupremespiritualpoweraround hisvenerablebrow.Inthese saddays,HisExcellency said,theHolyFatherwantedthemtolookonhim ratherasVicaroftheCrucified,oftheOnescourged andcrownedwiththorns.
PontiffSuffering
IfthePontiffhadnotas Yetsufferedbodilyinjury, theymightjustlysaythat hehadfeltandfeelsevery dayinhispaternalheartall thepains,thetortures,the massacresofsomanyofhis Bishops,priestsandfaithful,whointhecountries wellknowntothemgave mostcourageouswitnessto JesusChrist.Theyshould thinkofhimassuccessorto St.Peter,ofPetertherein theprisonsofJerusalem, whilealltheChurchwas prayingwithoutceasingfor hisliberation;andtheyshouldpraylikewisefor,all thechampionsofthefaith whoreplenishedthegaols today.
TheApostolicDelegate saidthattheHolyFather wouldbegratefulfortheir devotion,wellknowntohim, andinthatunionofmind andheartwithhisbeloved childrenofAustraliahe wouldfindgreatcomfort andconsolationinhissolicitudeforallthechurchesof theworld.

Foundedin1944forthedentsoftheareahowtoworkoftheSistersinthis religiousinstructionofthelookafterit,tocarefortheStatethaninanyotherpart childrenoftheoutbackdis-altarlinen,vestments,sacredofAustralia. trict,theSisterswere canonicallyerectedasaReligiousCongregationon August15,1951,saidFather Wallis.
