Thesestepsare:(1)Theinaugurationofaseriesof intensivemissionsandspi- ritualexercisesinallpa- rishesoftheRomediocese and(2)mobilizationofreligious gationsOrdersandcongreinRometowhom zoneswillbeassignedfor thespiritualreclamationof countlessthousandsofthe poorandfallen-awayinthe slumareasringingthe capital.
Detailedplansanddirectivesforthisconcentrated spiritualdrivewillbeannouncedsoon,accordingto well-informedpersonshere. Theaimistorecallthe Pope'simmediatechildren, inhisowndiocese,totheir religiousdutiesandresponsibilities.
Initsinitialstage,this spiritualcampaignwillcoincidewithanintensifiedobservanceofLent.TheHoly Fatherisexpectedtodevelophisownfurtherthoughts onthissubjectinhisannual discoursetotheRomeLentenpreacherswhichistraditionallygivenatthebeginningoftheholyseason.

Yourquestionisonethat isoftenproposedtoCatholics.Why,theyareasKed, istheChurchopposed.to publicschools?Brieflythe Churchisnotopposedto theseschoolsassuch,but, becausetheyaredeficientin whattheChurchconsiders themostessentialelement ofeducation,namely,religioustraining,shecannot allowherchildrentoreceivetheinstructionthey offer.Othercitizensofthe statearewelcometotheir opinionthateducationwithoutreligionisarightand satisfactoryeducation,but Catholicsareconvinced, andtheirconvictionisconfirmedbyexperience,that educationwithoutreligion hasnonebutadetrimental effect.

'HernamewasBerta Hummell,andshewasa FranciscannuncalledSisterM.Innocentia.Berta HummelwasbornMay.21, 1909,atMassing,nearMunich(Bavaria),notfarfrom Oberammergau.Shegrew upamongafamilyoftwo brothersandthreesistersin ahomewheremusicand artwereevery-daythings. "NewYouth"recentlycarriedawarningthatthenewBodgie-WidgiecultsweepingAustraliaisagravemenacetoyouth. Thatviewwasnotexaggerated.Thisstrange anddangeroustypeofbehaviourisseenas partofageneralpatternof"teen-age"problemswhichhaveariseninAustraliasince thewar.TheinfluenceofAmericanfilms, comics,magazinesandradioprogrammes liesatthebottomofmanyoftheseproblems.
WhenJudgeNield,last yearintheParramatta Court,warnedparentsto keeptheirchildrenoutof thesphereofbodgie-widgie influence,manypeople thoughthewassoundingan exaggeratedalarm.There is,however,plentyofevidencethattheJudgewas notexaggerating,andthat thisperniciouscultisareal dangertoAustralianyouth andtheirstandardsof
