Asuggestionthatabursaryfortheeducationofpriests,of aminimumannualvolueof£130,beestablished,waswarmlyreceivedbythe70delegateswhorepresented24branchesatthe quarterlygeneralmeetingofthePerthDiocesanunionofthe HolyNamesocietyheldSept.18.
OfficersoftheDiocesan councilexplainedthatifthe schemewereadoptedby branchestherewouldbeset upaBursaryfundtowhich HolyNamemembersmight contributethroughtheir branchesforthepurposeof educatingyoungmenfor thepriesthoodatSt.Charles'seminary,Guildford.
Therewould,however,be nolevyuponbranches.Voluntarycontributionsmade throughbrancheswouldnot bepubliclyacknowledged. Astatementoftotalcontributionswouldbemadepro- gressively.
TheRev.T.Ahern,a priestconsultortotheDiocesanunion,whodeputised fortheactingDiocesandirector,theRev.E.Rogers, supportedtheproposal.He statedthatithadthecordialapprovaloftheArchbishop.Heappealedtoall branchestoorganiseanap- pealtomembersandto memberstosupportit strongly.
Hewasconfidentthat annualcollectionswould exceedtheminimumof
£130,andhesuggestedthat thesurpluseachyearbeinvestedinasinkingfund untilsuchfundcontained sufficientcapitaltoensure, byinvestment,apermanent bursary.
TheRev.J.Russellalso spokeinsupportoftheproposalwhichwasunanimouslyadoptedbyalldelegates.Mr.M.Foley,Diocesonsecretary,reportedthatseveraldonationshad alreadybeenreceived.
ContinuousRosaries ForChurchSuffering
Mr.Foleycommentedon therecentenclosedRetreats:124members,drawn fromfivecountryand27 metropolitanbranches,had participated,asagainst102 in1950and82in1949.

Inproposingthetoastto theSistersofMercy,the MostRev.L.J.Goodysaid thathewishedtocongratu- latethemfor"50yearsof hardandfruitfulworkwell done."Thepresentoccasion,hesaid,linkedupwith thejubileeatClontarf, whichwasfoundedfrom here.TheStateshouldbe gratefultotheSisters,he added,sayingthattheir workherewas"without compare,"andformany yearsSt.Joseph'swasthe onlyinstitutionofitskind intheWest.Wishingthe Sistersandtheinstitution "manyyearsoffruitful work,"hesaidthathehopedthatthenext50years wouldshowprogresscomparabletothatachieved duringthepastfivedecades.

IntheLeedervilleTown hallonMondaynighta ballwasheldfortheexstudents.Thelittleones fromtheFoundlinghome andthejuniorgirlsofthe orphanageworefancydress;theseniorgirlsexperiencedthethrillof wearingeveningdressfor thefirsttime.
Manybenefactorsofthe orphanage,officialsofthe ChildWelfaredepartMent andex-studentswere amongthelargecrowd.

MotherAgnesisreputed tobethefirstpersonwho understoodthesanctityof theLittleFlowerandthe hiddenvirtuesthatadorned hersoul.Itwasunderher ordersthatSt.Therese wroteher''Autobiography,"thestoryofherlifeandreligiousexperiences,which hasbeentranslatedinto42 languages.Becauseofthe extraordinarygracesand inspirationswhichmany readersofthe"Autobiography"haveexperienced, PiusXI,in1923,declaredit was underunquestionablywritten divineinspiration.
MotherAgneshadbeenin declininghealthsincea heartattacksufferedDec. 15,1950. Herlastofficial acttookplaceonMarch19 ofthisyearwhenshereceivedtherenewalofthe nuns'vows.Occasionally duringthespringsheimprovedsufficientlytobe wheeledtothechapelor garden.
OnJuly15whilereciting theAngelusaloudsherelapsedintoacomafrom whichsheneverregainedconsciousness. Herlast spokenwordsonearth were:"BeholdthehandmaidoftheLord."Mother Agneswas89yearsold,and hadbeenanunfor68 years.Herdeathwasattributedtouremicpoisoning.PiusXI.in1925had namedMotherAgnesprior-
