Ittookacosmicwarwhoserepercussionswerefeltright againstournortherncoaststostirintolifethenationalconsciousnessthatthiscountrycouldnolongerbeheldagainst thesouthwardthrustofAsia'steemingmillionsunlessit couldbeadequatelypeopledinaminimumoftime.However belatedlythepolicyofmassimmigrationhasbeeninstituted, atleastitisbeingpursued,forthemostpart,vigorouslyand wisely.Butletusnotforgetwearelivingonborrowed time.

OnApril25,1915,hetookpart inthelandingatGallipoli.He wasinchargeofthefirstboatto leaveship,andwasoneofthe fewtoreachtheshorethatday. Heseemstohavebeenliterally sprayedwithbullets.Medical Corpsmenbroughthimback dazedandsufferingtothebeach. Awell-knownEnglishsurgeon operatedonhiminAlexandria, ir.anattempttosewtogether theseverednervesintheupper arm.whichabulletwoundhad leftparalysedanduseless.The attemptfailed,andsodid another.
Hesufferednowfrequently fromepilepsy,andinApril, 1920,adoctorrealisedthatthis wasprobablytheresultofthe headwounds,andoperatedon theskull.Buthisconditionwas nobetterafterthisoperation.He, hadfitsasoftenasthreetimes aday.Bothlegswerepartlyparalysed,andnearlyeveryorgan inhisbodywasimpaired.
Somebodyarrangedtohave himadmittedtoMossleyHill HospitalforIncurablesonJuly 24,1923.Heneverwentthere. BythatdatehewasinLourdes instead.

Soonafterthatandanytime afterwardsfortwentyyears,you couldhaveseeninLiverpoola hefty16-stoneman,inthecoal andhaulagebusiness,lifting 200lb.sacksofcoal,whowasofficiallyclassifiedas100percent. disabledandpermanentlyincapacitated.
ThatmanwasJohnTraynor. Hediedin1943fromhernia,a complaintinnowayrelatedto theillnessandwoundsofwhich hewascuredinLourdes.
Anothergroupofexpertstestified,thoughunconsciously,to themiracle.TheBritishWar PensionsMinistry,afterextensiveinvestigations,awardedhim fulldisabilitypensionforlife. Theyneverrevokedthatdecision.
Iftheenemiesofreligion couldfindanaturalexplanation forsuchacaseasthis,they wouldcertainlydoso.Butthey havefailed.Lourdesisanunanswerablechallengetomodern belief.Youcannotargueagainst Lourdes.Youcannotusethe weaponofscience.Youcanonly closeyoueyestothefacts-or believe.

WhitebeardedFatherEulampion,64-year-oldRussianbornJesuitteacherattheCollege,saidtheaimofthe"Russicum"isalsotopreparefor apossibleunionwiththe orthodoxfaith.

'Intheartificialinsemination ofanimals,theinterferencein naturallawisasgreat,ifnot greater,thanintheselffertilizationofthecottonplantfor reasonswhichneednoexplanation.Beforeartificialinseminationwasreleasedfromthe shelteroftheexperimentstationsalong-termtrialshould havebeencarriedout.Two herdsofthesamebreedshould havebeenmaintainedsideby sideundersimilarconditions.
