DeMontfort'sTeaching.

TheteachingofDeMontfortis foundinhisbook,"TheTrueDevotiontotheBlessedVirgin"and in"TheSecretofMary,"vill'chis asynopsisofitmadebyDeMontforthimself.Thelaterbook wasformallyexaminedinRome in1853,andthedecisiongiven that"itcontainednothingcontrarytofaithormorals,orany newdoctrinecontrarytothe Church'scommonsentimentand practice."PiusX.gavehisapostolicbenedictiontoanyonewho wouldevenreadthetreatise.He madenosecretofthefactthathis Encyclical,"AdDiemIlium,"was areflectionofthetreatise.BenedictXV.referredtothebook as"smallinsize,butofwhat greatauthority mayitspread evermoreandstillmore,andrekindletheChristianspiritinsouls inevergrowingnumber."The devotionisrecommendedbysuch theologiansasLehmkul,Tanquery,MerkelbachandGarrigouLagrange,andavastliteratureis growinguparoundthesubject.
