Whatismore, itwasratherunfortunatethatDr.Battyeshouldappealto HisHolinessthePopeforsupportin hisrathersarcasticreferencetomyextremeyouthandtotheomniscience thatIamsupposedtoclaim.Actually,Iwasexplainingtheteachingofa seriesofPopesonthesubjectofMasonry, andmycommentswere, forthe mostpart, agooddeallesstrenchant thantheirs.And,despiteDr.Battve's gracioustributetotheHolyFather, andhisinferencethatthePapacyis becomingmoreliberalinthismatter, thereisnottheslightestindicationthat 'hePapallvtnontheEnglishCraftis likelytobelifted.

Finally,theGrandMastersuggeststhatmy"knowledgeofFreemasonry 4 stemstohavebeenderivedentirely fromwhatIhavereadoftheGrand OrientofFrance."ThatIam,to quotehiswords,"obliviousorignorant ofthefactthatallEnglish-speaking' andmanyforeignGrandLcdges,donotregardtheGrandOrientastrue Freemasonry,fortheverysimplereasonthatitexcludestheBiblefromits LodgeCeremonies.Itisasimplereason,butitsweepsawaythefoundationsoftheremarksthatweremade."
