Itsbeginningsweremodest andduringitsearlyyearsthememberswerefew.TheSummerSchooltamp,whichweheldattheBrighton hotel,sogenerouslydonatedbyMr. T.'G.A.Molloy,broughtthescheme anditsneedsbeforethepublic.On bee-ember22,1926,weopenedthedoors oftheCampSchoolto110countrychil. area,whomweaffectionatelycalled rishies."Theycame,fromthefour dersoftheState-Australian,Irish, English,andScotch,withanItalian andaRoumanianthrownin.The 6cheel-Campwastheblossomingofthe "ReligionbyPost"Scheme,organised an1923.ThelastingfruitoftheCottesloeexperimentwastoawakenparemsinthebushtoasenseoftheir responsibilityandtoarouseinterest amongtheCatholicsofcityandtown inourworIforthespirituallyneedy childreninthebush.Itwasacamp an,!aschool.Theforenoonwasde. 'vmedtoChristianDoctrineandthe afternoonwasspentinsport.FourteenSistersdevotedtheirwell-earned holidaystotheworkofpreparingthe boysfirtheSacraments,andanumberofladies,underMrs.Maxwell,cateredforthem.Therewasmorning MassinCottesloeChurchandevening devotionsattheLoretoGrottonearby Wehadapublicprocessionof theBlessedSacrament,andevena 'retreat"givenbyanOblateFather. WebroughttheboysaroundCatholic Perth.visitingallthereligiousinstitution,andwhattheysaw,perhaps morethanwhattheyheard,leftanimpressionontheirreceptivemindsthat timewillnotefface.Canwerepeat theexperiment?TheBrightonHotel isnolongeravailable.Grantusa home,equallysuitable,andIshallwillinglyundertakeitagain.Iknowthat MrMolloy,"thefatheroftheBusbies," centemplatesleavingusapermanent homeforthisspiritualcrusade,andI hopeallwilljoininprayingthat-"the MolloyInstituteforChildreninthe B,4"willcomesoon.

inourcountrytownsthereareprimaryschoolswhichtakeboarders. 1 haveappealedtotheparentstosend theirchildrenthereuntiltheyarepreparedfortheSacraments.Topopularisethisidea,Ihavecollected,mainlythroughthe"Bushies'Ball,"which unfortunately,wasallowedtodieduringInvabsence.sufficientmoneyto ofi,rscholarshipstochildrenwhohad sotreceivedtheSacraments.The Sistersacceptedaminimumfeeof10s. aweek,whichbarelycoveredtheexpensesofbOard.Theschoolshave takenbrothersandsisters.Manyof ourcountryconventshavetakenin, andaretakingintd-day,childrenwho areunabletopay,andforwhomwe havenotsufficientmoneytomeetthe feeof10s.perkeek.Butthenfew ofusrealise,oreverappreciate,the amountofhiddencharitythatisdaily practicedinourconventsincityand country.Theschemeofscholarships atcountryboardingschoolsseemsto hethebestsolutionforthisproblem. ThechildrenwillreceivetheSacraments,andonthatfoundationwecan securebettersuccessthroughourcorrespondenceclassesconductednow fromVictoriaSquare,WestPerth, Swanbourne,Fremantle,Albany,Katanning,-Coolgardie,andDongarra.The lettersofRev.Dr.KearnanfromManiimup,andofFatherLangmead,from Esperance,speakmoreeloquentlythan everIcouldoftheadvantages,and theurgentneedofthismissionamong thechildreninthebush.

Thisgroupof46childrencametoboardatManjimupConventfor twoweeks,andweretherepreparedfortheSacraments,andonSunday, May26th.,receivedConfirmationfromHisGracetheArchbishop.The schemewasfinancedthroughreceiptsiromthelastBushies'Ball.ProvisionhasbeenmadetodothesameforchildrenintheBusseltonand Jarrandaledistricts.During1927,47childrenweregrantedscholarships atBusselton,37atJarrandale,15atWagin,andmanysmallergroupsat theothercountryConventSchools.Whatawidefieldthereisfor 'apostles,whowillhelptofinancethisscheme,sothateveryCatholicchild inthebushshallbepreparedfortheSacramentsinacountryboardingschool.Already,throughAuntBessy'sCorner,Ihavgbegunthismission,andIamsurethechildrenwilltakeitupmostenthusiastically. Thereissomuchtodo,however,thatwecannotleaveitalltothechildren.WhatareoursocietiesofwomendoingintheApcntolateofsowing theseed,"whichistheWc,rdofGod? InU.S.A.,theNationalCatholic Women'sCouncilhaveacceptedasitschiefmissionthereligiouseducationofthechildinruraldistricts,whichcannotsupportaCatholicschool. B'ut,ifSunday,May26,wasadayto berememberedbytheparents,itwas nonethelessforthechildrenthemselves.Formanyoftheirnumberit wasthedaynotonlyoftheirConfirmation,but,greaterstill,oftheir firstHolyCommunionalso.
Whatvisitoronenteringthechurch andlookingatthoserowsofchildren, sotastefullydressedfortheoccasion, wouldforamomenthavethoughtthat afortnightagotheseselfsamechildrenwouldhavebeenfoundscattered hereandthereonfarmshiddenaway intheheartofthebush,orinterspersedinalldirectionsamongthe manyStateschoolsofthevariousmills andgroupsettlements.Catholicsoften complainthatsomanyofthecountry childrengrowupcarelessandindifferentinthematterofreligion.,They do,butcanweexpectthesepoorchildrentopractiseareligiontheyhave neverlearnedtoknow?Bynature theyaresogood.Theylovetohear ofGodandofwhatGodhasdoneand sufferedforthem.Thedifficultyis togetatthemtogivethemthein-
ofFatherMcMahon,theprimemover orthemovement,oftheBushies' Scheme,andirhasbeenhishelpand thefinancialhelpderivedfromthe effortsofthecommitteeresponsible fortheannual"Busbies'Ball,"that madeitpossiblefortheSistersof Manjimuptodowhatwasdoneforthe Catholicchildrenofthisextremityof theSouth-West.And,mqreover,itis impossiblethat,withcertainmodifications,accordingtothedifferentcircumstances,whatwasdoneatManji-
mupmaybefoundpracticableino*er centresoftheState.
Threeyearsago,atthetimeofthe lassmissionbyFatherBrown,C.SS.R., amitereffortwasmade,and25childrenwerebrougttinforinstruction. Thistime,byenclosingwithasbestos awideverandah,theaccommodation waspracticallydoubled.Ofthe53 childreninvitedtotakeadvantageof theoportunity,46actuallyarrived,a few,unfortunately,beingpreventedfromcomingbysickness,andafew fromwantofthenecessaryclothing. Eachwasaskedtobringinsufficient warmclothingforthefortnight,and, ifpossible,oneortwo,blanketsor rugs.Everythingelsewasfoundfor them.Thisyearonlychildrenofnine yearsandoverweretaken,inthehope thattheyoungeroneswill,getanop- portunitynextyear.
Nexttotheproblemofshelteringso manylittleguestscamethatofpro-vidingbedsandbedding.Therewere onhandfromthelastmission,thanks tothecommitteementionedabove,sufficientbeds,sheetsandblanketsfor 20children.Toarrangefortheremaining26wouldhavebeendifficult wereitnotforthegenerousco-opera- tionoftheCatholicpeopleofthe town,butwiththishelpalldifficulties vanished.Somewereabletolend beds,someblankets,somemattresses, whileothersofferedtoaccommodate someofthepermanentboardersis theirhomesforthefortnight,tomake roomforthenewcomers.Last,but notleast,camethequestionoffood supplies.Toprovidefor20healthy appetitiesatordinarytimesisno trifle,butwhenthatnumberissuddenlyincreasedto60,theSisterin chargeofthekitchenisinfora,busy time.Fiftyloavesofbreadaday disappearedwithwonderfuleaseinto those60delicateconstitutions,anda noticeablepartialityforpotatoesand cabbagebetrayedunmistakeableevidenceoftheancestryofmostofthe guests.Apples,too,andpears,there were thesackful,andthereisno doubtthatjusticewasdonetothe generousdonationsofMessrs.Paul B'rennan,P.Collins,A.Fontanini,J. Piggott,M.Kilrain.C.Rooney,and otherstoonumeroustomention-donationsasgenerousaswastheseasonenjoyedthisyearbytheorchardistsof thedistrict.Donations,too,ofcook- ingfromtheladiesweremanyand mostacceptable.
AstothepartplayedbytheSisters. nowordscouldadequatelydesCribe thekindnessandattentiontheylavishedupontheirmanvguests.Order androutineforthefortnighthadto takesecondconsideration.Fromfive o'clockinthemorningtilltenat nightduringthebusydaysofthe mission,therewasnostopping.It wasamagnificenteffortonthepartof fiveSistersto.teichschoolandatthe sametimetoattendtosomanychildren.Butfromnoonecouldthe visitorshavereceivedamorehearty yelcomethanfromthepermanent °carders.Sometheyhadmetatthe formermission,otherswerestrangers forthemoment,butsoontheclosest offriends,andwhenthetimecame forpartingtherewasmanyanaffectionate"good-bye,anddon'tforgetto writesoon."

Milkingthecowscameasnaturalto boys-broughtuponfarmsIstaking theirbreakfast;peelinghalfasackof potatoesadaywasalesscongenial occupationforboys,butthethought ofadinnerminuspotatoesdidnot appeal,andtheanticipationofacoup],ofapplesasarewardfortheir patiencedidtherestwithoutanyappealtothearbitrationcourt.Many amotherwouldhavegrowngreenwith envyatthethoughtcouldsheonly getthemtodothesameathome? Ofthegirls,thesameremarkholds good.Allthebiggergirlsdelighted inhelping,thosefromNo.1Milldistinguishingthemselvesespecially, givingasplendidproofofthetraining theyhadreceivedintheirhomesfrom theirmothers.Thesehadnoteven tobeaskedtohelp,butalmosttook chargeofthekitchenfromthethemomenttheyarrived.
Duringthefortnightspecialinstructionsweregiventothechildrenonthe SacramentsbyFatherHannigan,who wasuntiringinhiseffortsthroughout thewholetime.Twoorthreeboys fromeachcentreweretaughttheservingofMass,andtheoldergirlsshown howtoarrangethealtar.Games,too, werenotneglected,bothboysandgirls havingmanyanexcitingcontest.
Theexperiment,ifexperimentitcan becalled,provedawewl.rfulsuccess, andwhenthetimecametoleave,and thechildrenwenttosay"good-bye,"it wastofiveSisters,tired,indeed,and wearyfromthefortnight'sheavy workandresponsibility,buthappyand feelingamplyrepaidforitallbythe thoughtthattheyhadbeenabletodo somethingfortheselittleones,tohelp themknowbetterandlovemorethe Godtowhomallchildrenaresodear.
MOTORTRANSPORTIN LEONORA.
Rev.FatherLangmeadwrites: Leonora. DearFatherMcMahon,Inaccordancewiththewishyouexpressedrecently,Inowencloseashort accountoftheworkingofmymotor transportschemefortheGwaliachildren.
WhenIfirstcametoLeonoradistrict,therewere45Catholicchildren attendingtheGwaliaStateSchool.In ordertosecureeffectivereligioustrainingforthesechildren,Iwasaskedto openaschoolinGwalia.Todothis, however,wouldinvolvealargeexpenditure,which,inviewoftheprecarious stateofthemine,Iconsideredunthinkable.Furthermore,suchaschool wouldrequiretwoteachers,andas nonecouldbeobtainedfromCoolgardie,Ithoughtitintheinterestsof efficiencybettertoconcentrateour effortsontheLeonoraschool.For thatreason,Ienteredintoacontract withamotorfirmheretobringinthe childrenfromGwaliatotheConvent School,andtotakethemhomeinthe evening.Inordernottohavean obstacleonaccountofexpense,andto ensurethatthenunswouldreceiveregularschoolmoney,Idecidedtohave thechildrencarriedfree;andcharged thecontractprice(30s.aweekupto theparishaccount.Atfirstonly12 childrenavailedthemselvesofthisopportunity;laterthenumberroseto32, sevenofwhomwereProtestants.At thisstagewehadintheConvent School84pupils,andonly16Catholic childrenintheGwaliaStateSchool.

Weareincompleteaccordwiththe drivethatisnowcontemplatedtoextendtheworkoftheCatholicTruth Society,inWesternAustralia.To date,thevaluablepublicationsissued bytheA.C.TS.havenothadthecirculationintheWestthattheydeserve.Lackoforganisationanddirectionaretheexplanation.The VincentdePaulSocietyhasappointed adirectorwhoisdevotingallhisenergiestothiswork,andfurtherinto' illationaboutsuppliesofpamphlets shouldbeaddressedto:Mr.W.B. Dickinson,St.VincentdePaulOffice, 52RoyalArcade,Perth.Eachmonth "TheRecord"willpublishanaril. nouncementofsuitablebooks,devotional,liturgicalandfiction.The spreadingofCatholicTruthisaDivine work,andcallstoitsstandardthezealousandapostolicmembersofthe Church.Inthiswork,asinevery workthatisworthwhile,whatisneededissustainedeffort.Enthusiastswe haveinnumbers,but,unfortunately, theirenthusiasmwanesquickly,and theirstaying-powerdies.Theglamour ofanewmovementcatchesmany,but fewsurvivetheconstantmonotonous workthatkeepssuchmovementsalive andworking./layefforttospread theGoodTidingirthroughCatholic Truthpamphletsshouldneverbedependantonanyoneindividualorany smallgroup.Organisationmakessuch effortsindependentofindividuals,and setsthemontheirwayworkingautomaticallywithsomeattention.Consequently,ifwearetohavesustained effortinthisdrive,wemustbuildup anorganisationthatwillrunon smoothly,nomatterwhomaybeat thewheel.Thatorganisationcanbe setupbytheVincentdePaulSociety workingwithPastor,Churchand School.Thesuggestionisthateach pastorwillhaveaC.T.S.boxinhis church,andthatthecareofthatbox hegiventothechildrenintheparochialschoolundertheguidanceofthe Sisters.Thechildrenwillgladlyassumethisresponsibility.Asmallcommitteeoftheolderchildrenmightbe appointedasdirectors,andunder themgroupsofchildrenshouldtake careoftheC.T.S.boxinturn,fulfillingthedutyforamonth.Arequest ismadetothepastortoannounce onceamonththenewbooksthathave arrivedinthebox.Itisessentialfor successthatthehooksbechanged eachmonth.Varietyofwaresand anoccasionalreminderfromthealtar willdomuchtospreadtheapostolic workoftheC.T.S. Topreventover-crowdingthecar,ora doublejourney,amotortruckwas used,andalittleirritationwasfeltby complaintsfromtheRoadsBoardsecretary;andononeoccasionthedriver showedmealetterfromtheRoads Boardsecretarycomplainingofovercrowding,andthreateningproceedingswithoutfurthernotice.Toovercomethisdifficulty,wheneverIwas homeIusedmycaralso.Lastyear wecommencedwith23children,and finishedwith17.Thisyearweshall haveonly11Catholicchildren.This decreaseismostlyaccountedforby familiesleavingthedistrict,orchildrenleavingschool,andasmallnumberofnewonestakingtheirplaces.
Now,onthisschemeIhavespentin twoandahalfyears£12910s.The onlyoutsidehelpwehavereceivedto dateis£10.Now,inaskingyou, Father,forasubsidy,naturallywe shallfeelverygratefulforanyhelp youcanobtainforus;butwithyour permission,mayIsuggesthelptothis extent:2/6perCatholicchildperweek.

Thisannouncementofthedeathof oneofthebestknownandmostactive ofourclergy,thewell-belovedpastor ofMaylands,cameasaterribleshock totheArchbishopandtotheCathedral clergy.Whenthesadnewswasmade publicitcausedwidespreadsorrow amonghismanyfriends.inthecity, andespeciallythroughouttheparishof MaylandsandBayswater,whereforthe ittwentyyears,throughthosevaryphasesoflabourthatareincidental tothegrowlandequipmentofa suburbanparish,hezealouslyandlabourouslytoiledfortheadvancementof religionandthecareofsouls.He wasnolaggardinhiswork,fromdawn todewyeve,inshineorshadow,he wasabouthisMaster'sbusiness,visitingthesickandthesorrowful,bringingtheconsolationsofreligiontothe dying,seekingthetepidonesofhis !Lock,counsellingthecareless,and everywherehewenthischeerful,kindlyfacebroughtagleamofpleasure. ratherPatLynchwasknownthrough. outthelengthandbreadthofthe State,anditissafetosayhehadn't anenemyanywhere;hisnaturewas toogenerous,hishearttoocharitable towilfullyhurtanyone.Hewasthe soulofgoodnature,andwithoutnoise orpublicbruitingmanycharitable deedsweredoneinsecretbyhimfor thepoorandneedy-andtheysurely wi:1beregisteredinhisfavourbythe All-SeeingOne.
Itishardtorealisethatthisbig, kindlypriest,wholefthisparishlast A.,:gustonavisittohisrelativesin Ireland,andwhoparticipatedinthe greatEucharisticCongressceremonies, seeminglyrobustandwiththepromise CAmanyyearsofworkbeforehim, shouldnowbesleepinghislongsleepin aforeignland,farfromhisfriends. Hisgreatdesirewouldhavebeen,no dubtotoresthislastrestamonghis kithandkininhisownlovednative land,andifthatcouldnotbe-tosleep hislongsleepinthatlittlet2utenlargingplotatKarrakatta,whereso manyofhisbrotherpriestsarekeepingtheirtrystwithDeath.ButGod inHiswisdomordainedotherwise.He restsamongfriends,andinthegood companyofthesonsofLoyola.He hadbeenfavouredverymuchthatin hsdyinghehadthelastconsolations ofMAherChurch,andhispassing,may wenothope,fromearthtoheaven, was-painlessandverypeaceful.There weremanylovabletraitsinhischaracter.whichthosewhoknewhimwell willremember.Hewasconsiderate totheaged,andtothesickinhospitalhewasunfailinginhisvisits.Often hewouldbreakinuponusat''TheRecord"withaclaimforsomereading "matterfor"thehospital,"andonehad tobeverywatchfulortheEditor'sexchangesandothernewstreasures woulddisappear.Thelittle_school childrenforwithinmilesofthecity knewhim,andwereamonghisbest workersforthecharitiesofhisparish. Hewasrarelywithoutabundleoftic. ketsforaconcertorsomeothercharityfunctioninhispockets,andhe neverfailedtofindthelittlechildren readytohelphim.Hewascultured andwellread.Manyyearsagohe wasforabrieftimeEditorofthis paper,andremaineduntotheendone ofitsbestfriends.Wewillmisshis cheerfulkindlyfaceattheofficeon publicationday,lookingforanadvance copyofthepaper.andshallalwaysrememberhimwiththemostkindly thoughts.Maythehardsoilofa North-Easternlandlaylightlyonhim, andthepeacefulsleepofthejustbe ThelateFatherLynchwasbornin Virginia,CountyClare,Ireland,54 yearsago.Hisecclesiasticalstudies
weremadeatAllHallowsCollege, Dublin,wherehewasordainedinthe year1900.HecametothisState shortlyafillIrwards,and'beganhis priestly'workatYork,andlateron theGoldfields,afterwhichhecameto PerthandwasgivenchargeofMaylands-Bayswaterparish.Duringhis longassociationwiththatparishhe showedapostoliczealinthedischarge ofthedutiesofhissacredoffice.For manyyearshisworkwasdifficult, tediousandtiring.Twentyyearsago theparishwasleanandundeveloped. Hisvisitationworkwasoverrough areas,andthefaithfulwerefewand scattered.Hispresbyterywasa rudeshack,hiscomfortswereyetto be.Courage,determination,andan
indomitablewilltosucceedhelped himtoshapefrompoorbeginningsa parishthatcanbearcomparisonwith anyinthemetropolitanarea.T'ie ChurchofOurLady,QueenofMartyrs,onMt.Carmel,builtatacostof about£8,000,isabeautifulexampleof ChurcharchitectureAndoccupiesa sitethatcannotbeexcelledanywhere.InitsstatelygrandeuritcommandstheattentionofthewaYfarer, andinpointofbeautywouldbean ornamenttoanycity.Intheopinion ofnolessajudgethatArchbishop Mannix,itissplendidvalueforthe money.Itishisbestandmosten duringmonument.
FatherLynchwasformanyyears, anduntilthecaresofhisparishdemandedallhisattention,anardent workerfortheH.A.C.B.Society,of whichhewasamember.Hewas theircounsellor,guideandgoodfamiliarfriend-andonseveraloccasions filledsuperiorofficesontheDistrict Boardandatconferences.Hisname isahouseholdwordwiththefraternityinalltheStates.Theorderloses inhimagoodworkerandfriind.All throughhislifehekeptinhieshearta realloveforhisnativeland,andwas deeplyinterestedinhermovingfortunes.Hehadanabidingfaithin theultimatetriumphoftheHome Rulemovementanditsleaders,andwe recallhisgriefwhenthatmovement wasdisruptedbytheeventswhichfollowedEasterWeekandthesubsequentpartitionofNorth-EastIre-
land-theSix-CountyState.Yet therewasnoangerinhisheartfor thisclipped-offbitofIreland;itwas to Irelandstill.Norwouldhe hearahardwordsaidofUlster:"I camefromthere,"hewouldsay,affectionately,andthatseemedtosettleall argumentamongsthisfriends.
Inadditiontothesplendidchurch ofOurLadyQueenofMartyrs,at Maylands,thereisalsoacommodious conventandschool,conductedbythe SistersofNotreDamedesMissions, andacomfortablepresbytery.At Bayswaterthereisalsoasubstantial brickchurch.Provisionhasalsobeen madeforfutureneedsintheoutlying partsoftheparish.Ithasgrownconsiderablyinrecentyears,andthewide gapsthatoncewerebetweenthepar. ishandthecityhavemeltedaway. Theprogressof20yearshasextended thelimitsofsettlementuntilcityand suburbnowmeet.
OnSundayeveninglastapreliminarymeetingwascalledtobeginarrangementsbytheparishionersfora worthy.receptionoftheirpastoron hishome-coming.Alas!manproposes,butGoddisposes.OnWednesdaymorninglastaRequiemMass wassunginstead.

Wehaveassembledherethismorningtodischargeasacred,butatthe sametime,averysadandmelancholy duty,viz.,toassistattheRequiem Massforthereposeofthesoulofone ofthemostesteemedandpopular priestsoftheArchdiocese-thelate FatherLynch.Lessthanayearago heleftus,apparentlyinhisusual robusthealth.FirstofallheattendedthegreatEucharisticCongress inSydney,wherehewasespecially courteousandhelpfultovisitorsfrom thisState.Thenheembarkedonthe homewardtrip,viaAmerica-atrip hehadearnestlylookedforwardto-a holidaythatherichlydeservedafter hismanyanxiousyearsofworkand worryinconnectionwiththebuilding ofthisbe'autifulchurch.
NewsfilteredthroughthattheclimateintheOldCountrywasnotbene ficial-thatheseemedtohavelost ofhisenergy,andthathehadasevereattackofinfluenza.Finallyhe leftonthereturnjourney,without havingthoroughlyshakenoffthe effectsoftheinfluenzaattack,andthen camethecablelastMonday,which causedsuchwidespreadconsternation andsorrowintheCatholiccommunity,totheeffectthathehaddied peacefullyafterreceivingtheSacraments,inSt:George'sHospital,and thathewasburiedlastSaturdayin theJesuitCemetery,Bombay.
ThelateFatherLynchwasbornin Virginia,Co.Cavan,Ireland,54years ago.Hewaseducatedforthepriest. hoodinthefamousforeignmissionary college,AllHallows,Dublin.Hear rivedinthisStateintheyear1900, andsincethenhehasbeenaveryactive,zealous,andconscientiousworker invariouspartsoftheArchdiocese, butprincipallyhereinMaylandsfur thelast20yearsormore.Fewknow thedifficultiesthatconfrontedhim hereinMaylandswhenhetookcharge, andforsomeyearsafterwards.He facedthemwithcourage,zeal,ability, andtrustinGod.Graduallyhestir mountedthem,andto-dayweseethe grandresultofhispriestlyworkin thiswell-equippedparish,andespeciallyinthisbeautifulnewchurch,which washisjoyandpridewhilehewas withus,whichwillbeaworthyand lastingmonumenttohispriestlyzeal nowthatheisgone.FatherLynch wasapriestoftirelessenergyandactivity--ofrareability-andthosenaturalpowerswerefedbygreatfaithand greatzeal,andutilisedwhollyforthe gloryofGodandtheinterestsofreligionhereinMaylands.Hewasa genial,warm-hearted,zealousand charitablepriest--anyoneintroubleor distressfoundinhimageneroushelper.Hismemorywillbereveredand hislossmournednotonlybytheparishionersofMaylands,butbyavery widecircleoutside,bythepriestsand Sisters,andmoreespeciallybythe HibernianSociety,inwhichhetook suchanintelligent,faithfulandabidinginterest.Weofferyouherein Maylands,andhisfriendsintheOld Countryourverydeepandgenuine sympathy.WetendertotheJesuit FathersatBombayourwarmest tjianksfortheirdevotedspiritualcare ofhimonhisdeath-bed,andforthe privilegeaccordedtohimindeathof beingburiedwiththeirdeadconfreres intheirconsecratedrestingplacein BombayCemetery.Althoughthe cabletellsusthathediedpeacefully afterreceivingthelastSacraments, stillwemustprayforhissoul.Iknow thatyoualljoinwithmefervently thismorninginsayingfromourinmostheartstheprayersoftheRitual, "MayPerpetualLightshineonhim, OLord!"Mayherestinpeace.Amen

Threeorfourlinesaboutthemale sex.Ifeltquiteproudtheother eveningattheCatholicBall,whenon lookingaroundtheballroom,myeyes weregreetedwiththesightofasturdy, clear-skinned,uprightcrowdofyoung men.Itspeakswellforthetraining ofourFaithandschoolswhenoursocialgatheringscanshowahostof goodlyyoungmenintermingledwith theuprightformsandsilveringheads oftheirseniors.Now,youmen,you arenotgoingtogetanymoreattention thisweek,asyouarequiteself-opiniatedenoughasitis,withoutfurther praise.
Quiteagalaxyofwell-dressed youthandbeautygreetedmyeyesat theAnnualCatholicBall,whichwas heldintheY.A.L.HallonTuesday evening,the4th.inst.,underthepatronageofHisGracetheArchbishop, whowaspresent.Itwasaverysuccessfulgathering,andthecommittee responsibleforitssuccesswas:Mr.L. J.Dwyer(President),Mr.H.McDermott(hon.treasurer),Mr.L.McDermott(hon.secretary),Messrs.J.Tully, J.Minihan,B.Shepherd,J.Carr,and C.Burrows.Allpraiseisduetothem andtheladieswhosoablyassisted them.Excellentdancemusicwith novellightingeffectswassuppliedby MissD'Arcy'sOrchestra.Thetables forthesupperwereverytastefullydecoratedwithpinkroses,hovea,and wattle,andwereliterallyloadedwith toothsomedainties.

ThefuneralofthelateMr.Matthew Dwyer,ofManiganMarleyMine, Sandstone,tookplaceonthe25th. May,andwaslargelyattended.The deceased,whowas58yearsofage, wasborninVictoria.Asaladheleft thereandwenttoTasmania,,wherehe followedtinminingforaboutsixyears. In1899hecameWest,andwentprospecting,andin1905discoveredthe ManingaMarleyMinenearSandstone.Afterworkingthissuccessfully foraboutfiveyears,hewentfarming atEsperance,Queen'sPark,andNorth Dandalupforafewyears.Relinquishingfarming,hewenttoSouth Africaforsometime,andonhisreturnhedecidedtoagainworkthe ManingaMarleyMine,asheconsideredthattherewasstillplentyofgold tobehad,anditwaswhilstthusengagedthathemetwiththeunfortunateaccidentwhichcausedhisdeath.
