MyreasonsforthinkingthatthefutureofAustraliaandtheworldis withtheCatholicChurch,aremany.First,Iobservethathumancreaturesconsistpartlyof"body,"andyoucanseethatiftheexistingtendencycontinues,Catholicsalonewillbeupholdingbodilyself-control. Everysuggestionmadenov:adaysconcerningmarriedlifeanddivorce, assumesthatpeoplecan'tlivechasteandmustn'tbeexpectedto.Icould supportthisbyargument,butIwon't.Itremainsthatwhenlicenseis admitted,anationisfinished.
Second,Catholicsalonecretakingreligiouseducationforchildren seriously.(Iregardtheendeavourtogetthe"Bible"merely"read"in schoolsasfrivolous,notserious.Itgetsnowhere.)Whenchildrenare deprivedofreligouseducation,youcanlooktoseenothingshortofincreasedchild-suicide,asinFrance,America,Germany,andnowEngland.

Again,ifCatholicsusetheirassets,theywillfindthattheirFaithinvolvesasociallifeofjustice,andisabletoconstructahappySociety suitedtoman'struenature,suchasisnotseenanywhereto-day.Isay nothingabouttherightsandwrongsoftherecentstrikes;butitisclear thatasocietyinwhichtheycouldtakeplaceisadislocatedone.But thisisnotanaffairofoneland,butofall.Catholicsatanyratecan,if theychoose,studyCatholicprinciplesofsocialjustice,especiallyinLeo XIII.'sEncyclicals;andshortofthat,cancutabsolutelyoutoftheirpersonallives-includingtheirbusinesslives-everyatomofthatgraftand grabwhichdefilepubliclifetoooftenandwhichareresponsibleforevery humanconflictuptoworld-wars.Iknowthatthiswillimplyhavingless ofthisworld'sgoodsthantheymightotherwisehave;butalongwith chastity,thereisapovertythattheChristianmusthonour,andhewill notshirkit.Finally,withinthis"social"area,theCatholicismorelikelytoobey,torespectdiscipline,thananyoneelse,sinceobedienceto authorityisoneoftheessentialpartsofhisreligion.
