BensondisagreedbecausetheJesuits setouttoconvinceProtestants.and theCambridgeintellectualse)were muchtoostupidtobecop-inced. JesuitsuseCatholicismlikearapier, andtheeffectontheProtestant, thoughunpleasant,isn'tverylasting. TheBenedictineswouldbeginbytakingnonoticeofCambridgeatall,but wouldcompelattentionbytheircalm dignifiedandbeautifulceremonial. WiththemCatholicismwouldbelike asteam-rollerandwouldtreattheUniversitylikethestonesontheroad. Averyinterestingletterappeared inthedailypressfromthepenofthat versatileandlargeheartedpolitician, DoctorWilliamMaloney,M.H.R.It dealtwithconditionsinCanberra,our mushroomcapital,whichhassomany bittercriticsandsofew,veryfew,defenders.Thegenialdoctorfirstofall criticisesthedepartmentalauthorities fordepartinginsomanyrespectsfrom theoriginaldesignofMr.Griffin,and
